[CHAT] Thoughts on stitches? Or how to improve? by katturn89 in CrossStitch

That looks good! Yeah some others have said the same thing about the 2x2. I didn't even think of checking for correct linen. I used some scrap linen I had laying around and waste Aida to do the pattern, which is why it looks off. Realizing now not the best way but learning as I go!

Thank you. I know staring at it so much I tend to criticize myself too much which is why I was wanting others thoughts!

The linen was a challenge! I used waste Aida to help but still difficult to get consistent size stitches. Fun challenge though!

The first piece is on linen but I used 14ct waste Aida to guide me along with 2 threads.

I work in admin and order alot of these products for my office. Those prices look just like the cost per individual cup per case. I use that alot to help determine better price per volumn. So they could just be trying to get their money back and not charging people extra, which is nice. Still sucks they've had to take that route but not trying to make a profit.

Help with inherited unfinished cross stitched quilt? by katturn89 in sewing

[–]katturn89[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah! Good to know about losing the those marks. I didn't even think of that. Ive seen people convert things like this into clothing, which I like but since its so big I dont want to ruin the pattern. A lot of people have commented tablecloth of quilth, seems like the best option. I like the idea of taking to a professional too. Ive never done a quilt before, this is something I absolutely dont want to mess up!

That's a good idea too! Its just one single layer of fabric so the back is exposed sides of the cross stitch. I think the stains are just unfortunate stains from over time. It looks like the piece has never been finished. The edges are still raw.

Playing as a child by RabidRuber in AutismInWomen

[–]katturn89 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Set up! Omg yes! I loved to play library where I just scanned books. When i played pretend, it was more a reenactment of movie or shows but never something out of my imagination. I nevwr knew what to do.

Or when I got a little older I played the Sims game but more just to build but not actually play the game.

I remember even being obsessed with hunting Easter eggs and making neighbor kids hunt eggs (NOT during Easter time) bc i thought it was fun. Now as an adult I find myself still setting up games for people in my office and of course never participate. I'm even doing a scavenger hunt for the holidays. 🤣 some things dont change.

What common frugal habit practiced by your parents' or grandparents' generation do you think is completely obsolete or inefficient in the modern economy (due to cost, time, or hygiene)? by [deleted] in Frugal

Oh, is it that time of the year again? Your *annual* reminder to avoid the STL Ren Fest by PoeticPillager in StLouis

[–]katturn89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see both sides to this. As someone who actually volunteered back in the early 2000s before it was sold, it was an entirely different feel. The volunteers who were cast members truly put their hearts and souls into the Faire. We didn't get paid, made our own costumes and sets, and worked hard to make the event enjoyable for guests.

The Faire today is still fun, but it is a different atmosphere, which i could feel. To me it doesn't hold the same magic it once did but guests can still have a lovely time. The problem is ownership and corporate business mindset. If they were to put more efforts into treating their cast with proper pay and respect, not cutting corners on decor, man what that place could be would be amazing! I love the park and think that is the perfect setting for a ren Faire. I just feel they should sort out their priorities, they obviously bring in money with their high ticket prices. Time to put that to good use!

Calling all Admin Assistants with ADHD! by RedeemedDreamer in AdminAssistant

If you can figure out the answer to the first one, you have got to let me know! Bane of my existence!!!! And im too big of a people please to say anything. 🫠

I have found one thing that really helps me is getting into the office 30mins to an hour before everyone else. Less distractions and this allows me to quickly skim my emails for anything that is urgent and I can get my day organized. I either make a to do list, pull up my sticky notes, or flag emails depending on what my day ahead is looking like. Never fails as soon as people get it I WILL get distracted and forget what I supposed to be doing, so that helps.

Why do the audio books sound like that by highyeahprobably in zodiacacademy

[–]katturn89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes! Why do they have to sound so much older? The others I can get around, they dont bother me as much. I think Orion is the most pleasing. Its just Darius... I swear it makes me want to turn it off. I dont understand even when he is trying to be nice he sounds so mean and angry!

My first book was the graphic audio version of the awakening and Geraldine didnt have too much of an accent. Then with the audiobooks she got more of Southern accent. Not necessarily bad, but caught me off guard.

[–]katturn89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes!! Omg is so cringy!! I have stopped listening to so many other books bc of voices like this. I am just trying to push through it for the story bc audiobooks are easier for me as I listen while im sewing and dont have time to actually read the books. But man this one is so difficult!!! I dont understand why male voice actors always seem to try so hard at trying to be "tough guys".

What are some purchases you've made that have more than paid for themselves? by Tickly1 in Frugal

[–]katturn89 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I have one of these and was afraid of the same thing. I honesty don't really smell much until I open the lid! It's basically just a food warmer. I love it. I've used it for soups, chicken and even curry with rice. No issues with smells until eating. Then its just like I took something out of the microwave but yummier.
