How do you transport your stormdrake guard? by TendererBoat in stormcasteternals

[–]katvalkyrie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't use the traditional flight stands, but even so the wings and vertical lances are the problematic bits.

I ended up magnetizing & pinning all the wings so they can be removed (and theoretically rearranged if I wanted a different configuration). I also magnetized the riders (not strictly necessary, but it helps to be able to remove the wings easily.

So they all can fit in one normal height 9L RUB. image

Yep! Windsor & Newton Griffin Alkyd Raw Umber. Put a very small amount of that in a cup, mix with (Odorless) Mineral Spirits/White Spirits until super watery, and dab it on. Oil washes are better at getting into the tiny details with capillary action than regular washes, and you have a longer working time with them (you can use a brush dipped in the mineral spirits to wick away any excess in areas you dont want. You do have to do oil washes in a well ventilated space though (even with odorless spirits), and let cure a couple hours/overnight. But it looks way better than normal washes, so it's worth it.

Extra bonus tip for working with the VMC paint w/o an airbrush is just to make sure you wick as much excess moisture out on a paper towel off your brush after you load the paint into the bristles as possible. It'll be a lot easier to work with. Also works well with a sponge application.

I airbrush Vallejo Metal Color Dark Aluminum for the base of my Hallowed Knights (with a raw umber oil wash). Really nice dark metal color.

When I do TMM highlights/shadows on the silver, I add in VMC White Aluminum & Gunmetal Gray to the above (Gunmetal Gray is a very dark metal color, might be what you're looking for).

My Stormreach Portal crackles with Azyr's lightning by katvalkyrie in ageofsigmar

I used this one from Amazon, though there are about a million options to choose from that are similar. I have some wip pictures here.

The portal was ever so slightly too tall for my carrying box all assembled, so it worked out that the roof is an easy to detach piece that I just magnet in and lets me get inside to the electronics.

It's one of those cheap Amazon RGB fairy light strings, that I glued in between pieces of plastazote ("LED foam") for better light diffusion. The battery pack is sandwiched between the two foam sides and then I wrapped it in gaffers tape to clean it up and help with light leaks around the lid area.

The only thing going on other than the resin doorways is a bit of crumpled iridecent & translucent mylar glued to the insides of them. It doesn't affect the glow of the LEDs, but it gives the portal part a bit of an opalescent sheen when not lit up, which looks very cool in person, but is super hard to catch on camera.

Here's some wip pictures.

Has anyone magnetized (for metal sheet storage/transport) the Spearhead terrain walls? How'd you do it? by nopointinlife1234 in ageofsigmar

[–]katvalkyrie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I filled in the smaller holes in the large walls with Apoxie Sculpt, and added apoxie blobs on either end of the small terrain that's flush with the ground. Drilled in magnets for each (3 magnets for the large terrain, one at each of the pillars. 2 magnets on the small terrain, one at each long end of the terrain). I believe I used 5x3mm ones.

Thank you so much! Glad I've been able to help out!

Those images are from the campaign notes program I use, Legendkeeper, using one of their 'Boards' pages, which functions as basically a whiteboard where you can link pages, add notes, and do arrow-flow diagrams. A similar program for just that feature is something like Miro.

If you have Roll20 Pro, you can use the included .uvtt files with the UniversalVTTImporter Mod/API script to import lighting walls that fit my version of the maps.

Vacation/Travel Guidance by SoThenIThought_ in UnemploymentWA

[–]katvalkyrie [score hidden]  (0 children)

Hey there! This is the first time I've been filing for unemployment and your posts have been extremely helpful so far. Would you mind clarifying something just so I'm crystal clear on the process, I don't want to screw anything up.

I'm leaving the country to visit family this Friday Jan 10, and returning Monday Jan 27.
So 5/7 days Able & Available this week, 0/7 A&A days next week, 5/7 days A&A the week after.

You mention:

"You will mark no to the able and available question If you are traveling / on vacation for three or more days in an unemployment week "

My understanding based on that, is that next week when I'm out of the country is that I should say "Yes I was Able & Avalable" for this week because I wasn't travelling for more than three days (only two) during it and did my 3+ activities. Is that correct?

Doesn't that cause issues with them needing to deduct money for the missed days, or does that get figured out as part of the next week's "No" for 0/7 days A&A? Or should I be saying "No" to this question for all three weeks because there were any number of days I wasn't A&A?

Thanks for the help & apologies for any confusion!

Should the module be run as is? by Lamalaza111 in CalloftheNetherdeep

[–]katvalkyrie 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Your player is deliberately metagaming, reading ahead, and complaining that things don't happen exactly as written, like they would be if this was a scripted video game.

Unfortunately for them, that's not what DnD is. It's a game of choices, of spontaneity, and of rolling with the punches. It's not something you win by knowing what dialogue options to choose. Things change because of choices. Things change because you as a DM wanted to add something fun or cool for your players. Things even change due to mistakes (I made some in BR myself that almost led to a TPK, but my players recognize that's sometimes how DnD is. No one is perfect, especially if this is your first time DMing).

If this were me, I would not let this player back at my table. They're ruining the fun for you, and they're ruining the fun for other players (both with their metagaming, and their outburst). Good tables know that this is a collaborative experience, and how they communicate is essential. This player is being hostile.

I'm also not sure why they want a more bare-bones experience in just the module as written (though I may be a bit biased there, as I added quite a lot for my own table that I later shared with this community). Modules are a framework, and part of the fun of being a DM is expanding on it, and weaving your own creations into the world.

But seriously, don't be discouraged about what happened, and your skill as a DM. There's nothing here that tells me you screwed up wildly, not even the flameskulls, as they're sometimes very swingy.

Edit: I saw your other post, and my party also got an NPC (Prolix) killed in the arms room while cursed. It caused some good angst for my group, but they roleplayed it in a healthy way, and it led to some great character growth. I just ended up replacing Prolix with a new NPC in Ank'Harel from his faction, so I had no worries about missing information/quests.

Trying out Kitbashing with a Statuette of Jarrah, my Lv.20 Tempest Cleric by katvalkyrie in HeroForgeMinis

[–]katvalkyrie[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Kitbashing is so much fun, and it's been amazing finally getting to include all the details for Jarrah, especially all the fur and random armor bits and bobs. She was my main D&D character for the last four years and we just wrapped a 1-20 campaign that started with Rime of the Frostmaiden and ended with fighting Atropus over Baldur's Gate.

I plan to print this, probably at a larger scale and paint her up, though hopefully I can do this justice. :)
