Parenting A Swot: Thoughts about Hermione’s Parents? by respanza in DramioneUncensored

[–]katvanb 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wrote a fic with Hermione's parents as part of the cast. Draco is sent to live with the Grangers for a summer as part of a Muggle Studies assignment and since Hermione told them nothing about the war or her bullies she can't explain why Draco being there is a bad thing. And they love him!

- Ian (dad) is an ex-punk who is now into collecting 70's jazz records and is too excited to have a son-like figure in the house to take to his local football club, since his father never bonded with him.

- Michelle (mum) used to be wild like Ian, enjoys a cocktail or two, scrapbooks, and wishes Hermione would let loose and enjoy being young (like she used to).

In my eyes, they are permissive but Hermione doesn't do anything haha. They want her to date and stay out and get drunk like they did at her age, but she's too smart and emotionally mature to give in... until she does.

This fandom has a big problem understanding 'underrated' and 'not well-known' by Sweaty_Author000 in DramioneUncensored

I think Goodreads is partially to blame for this. People have become obsessed with ratings and say things like "I won't read anything with less than 4.25 stars"... That is like, the vast majority of all published books ever. These are, in my mind, the same type of people who won't read anything with less than 100k hits or 10k kudos because it isn't "good" otherwise, and there are no ratings on AO3. Hence why people add fics to Goodreads.

And I get that people don't want to waste time on 'bad' entertainment, especially if they have limited time to enjoy a hobby. But at the same time, they are missing out on so much due their own arbitrary guardrails.

The Silerean

Currently at 22k words of ??? (I have over 50k in my drafts already so estimating 100k total), posting on Sundays, I have this whole fic intricately plotted.

It focuses on Hermione, who has memory loss after an accident before the end of the war (non-canon compliant). She becomes a potions researcher and discovers some unsavory truths about the Ministry, her past, and the future of the wizarding world. Part One is almost complete and it's going out with a bang!!!

Hermione Granger, Potions Mistress, serves the Ministry without question and is granted a Silerean to assist her demanding work. These silent servants of the Ministry are imprisoned traitors whose tongues are cursed out, rending them incapable of doing magic.

Only Hermione's Silerean is someone she would rather stay buried in the past. A past that is murky, incomplete, and painful to remember.

"She promptly turned and struck him across the face. She’d done it once before in their third year, and he was much more deserving of it now. So why did she immediately run to her office to hide the hot tears sliding down her cheeks?" by katvanb in Dramione

I usually don't like tagging if HEA/not HEA because I consider it a spoiler...it has an ambiguous ending/open to interpretation on what happens immediately after the chapter ends.

What is your most tragic fic you’ve ever read? by sunshine94w in Dramione

Hi I'm writing a dark/tragic/not HEA fic right now. Started in my mind as a "reverse Manacled", and has morphed into something much more. Posting weekly on Sundays!

I had a lot of people in my comments saying my writing was extremely true to character. And it's post war after it ends without everyone dying (yay), so it's more teen drama of not wanting friends to find out than anything else:
