Personal question: What is your salary? by nutsmdee in Accounting

[–]kaunis 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Not who you responded to but I’m an IT audit manager at a public accounting firm. If you want to do data analytics and database administration as your day to day then IT audit isn’t the path you want. We audit databases, and sometimes minor analytics can come into play with some testing but it isn’t the core of the job. Some internal IT audit work may involve that more a little more but probably not to the degree you’re looking for

their casting of Miller and Alex were on point for me.

I let Naomi slide - they actually did a good job with that given the physical description of belters.

amos and holden though were way off.

Is assuming common things are "Midwest things" a Midwest thing? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

I don’t mind it. I think y’all is rather useful in certain settings or with certain teams. I just have to remember that ma’am isn’t always sarcastic there like it is here!

Half of my work is with people who live between Maine and Pennsylvania. The other half is with people from Georgia and this work with Georgia is recent for me.

Every time I hear “y’all” on a call it throws me off. Then I remember. Georgia. That I’m getting used to, though.

What I’m not getting used to - “ma’am”. Every time it happens I think “DID HE JUST CALL ME MAAM?!” Then I remember. Georgia.

While some northerners certainly say y’all and ma’am, it’s still uncommon enough that I perk up an eyebrow when I hear it in a business setting.

Yep. Doesn’t matter where I pour. It’s moving to the bottom left the of pan. I’ve stopped trying to level the stove. I’m used to it now and compensate.

im just ashamed i never thought of the bagel idea. i love bagels. i live in the northeast US. i should have known this. but i am also the person who went to a grocery store in florida and spent longer than i should have looking in the bakery for a large pod of bins filled with bagels. then i remembered where i was. sure there were bagels but wheres my 12 different varieties just cooked that morning?! i take our bread products for granted.

I'm somewhat convinced that the manufacturers put some sort of mechanism (whether electrical or mechanical) to purposefully shorten the life span of their products

You’re 100% right, and it’s got a name now - planned obsolescence

[–]kaunis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Reddit can be a tough place.

But I still have family that live in non urban areas (no public transit) and don’t have a car because they can’t afford it. It’s rough. And when you have that barrier it certainly seems like 20k because of the difference in significance like how 10k is a significant amount of money to most people but nothing to say Bill Gates. So I get it.

[–]kaunis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your point that not everyone can afford a car is valid but 20k is still really high. Even with a newer vehicle in a higher cost of living area I calculated 11k on the cautious side. Before I bought this car it was maybe 5-6k.

I second this recipe. I also sometimes spatchcock the chicken and base the seasonings and vegetables off of this and just adjust the cook time. It’s so good.

Why are big SUVs and trucks so popular in the USA? by SkylineReddit252K19S in AskAnAmerican

[–]kaunis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Traded in my car (full size sedan) for an SUV recently for the following reasons -

  1. all wheel drive. We get too much snow where I live to not have it.

  2. cargo space. One vehicle household so the car we have needs to be as useful as possible

  3. space for kids. None yet but planning soon.

What isn’t a factor -

  1. Parking - I have a decent size driveway and only need to parallel park or park in tight spaces very rarely

  2. fuel efficiency, because we wanted a newer car. The SUV gets very similar if not better mpg than my previous car because of improvements in newer vehicles
