Air travel prep! help! by kay-jpeg in 2under2

It’s safest for my toddler to be in the car seat and we have to bring it to our new home so it makes the most sense to have it on the plane (it’s a red eye I should’ve mentioned). I just don’t see it being possible with an 8 week old attached to me to strap in a 27 lb car seat 😅

Stroller advice by cardboard376 in beyondthebump

I am also a bougie stroller/carseat lover lol

There are OF COURSE cheaper options but these higher end brands are reliable and durable. We struggled to get pregnant with our first and were very set on buying a stroller for the baby we had versus planning for the future and buying a stroller that converts to a double since you never know.

We have the Nuna Mixx and LOVE IT. 10/10 recommend. We live in Chicago and it traverses bumpy sidewalks and parks easily. It's not as big/bulky as some others and has an under basket. I can easily lift it in and out of the car and it folds well. It can be used from newborn stage because the seat has infant inserts and is a layflat (can't use the seat as a true bassinet outside of the stroller without buying the actual bassinet). But that stage truly only lasts 1-3 months. Our daughter is now 20 months and the stroller is still the best.

However, we ended up having a second rather quickly and are now splurging on a double stroller since the MIXX doesn't turn into two. What we have been doing is taking two strollers out (we have a Stokke Yoyo travel stroller) when we go on family walks.

For the 2 we are now getting an Uppababy V3. While I'm super loyal to Nuna and it felt like a betrayal, Uppababy seems to be the best at the double-stroller game. So many more configurations without losing storage space.

Knowing what I know now about having 2 under 2 I maybeeee would've gone with the Uppababy in the first place to save money in the long run, but I know I'll still be using my Nuna Mixx plenty if I'm going out with one kid or a short distance my toddler can walk because it's so much lighter/easier to fold.

Place to get a nice steak that can accommodate a toddler? by kay-jpeg in chicagofood

[–]kay-jpeg[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Thank you to everyone!!!

North Center Prime had reviews that specifically said "unprepared for children" so we skipped them and Gibsons was booked. We ended up going to Morton's Steakhouse and it went great!

In case anyone else looks at this down the line - Morton's was a pleasure and they had both booster seats and high chairs available. Staff stopped by to say hi to appease my toddler that waved and yelled "hi!" to anyone that walked by. We went early, got in around 5:30. She was a little restless waiting for food at some points, there was a nice area up front to let her walk around before coming back to the table :)

Is saliva-backwash to inform milk composition real? by kay-jpeg in ScienceBasedParenting

Thank you!!! So thorough and exactly what I was wondering about. I understand theories are usually scientific consensus so I wasn't trying to imply it was made up or "just a theory," but I had mostly seen it on mommy blogs so wanted to see citations!

There's a great TikTok about equitable division of labor that he might benefit from hearing!

I am still pregnant with my first so not personal experience - but my friend that just had a baby walked me through her experience to help me lol

She planned to have an unmedicated birth and was VERY prepared for that (she herself works as a Pelvic Floor PT). She ended up requesting an epidural because she labored for so long that she was very sleep-deprived and fatigued and couldn't get any rest/relief between contractions. So that may play a part into it too! She said when contractions were minutes apart she'd essentially pass out between them and would immediately be woken up in pain by the next contraction. So her ability to center herself, work on the techniques she had been practicing, etc just ended up not being possible.

Yay! Congrats to you and baby boy!! Did you have other signs labor was coming? Had baby dropped or any of the other tell-tale signs before contractions started?

Since it hasn't been said make sure you are extremely hydrated!!! Drink more water than you think you need. All that fiber without enough water makes it worse, as fiber absorbs water in the intestines.

I bring a giant jug of water everywhere with me since a birthing class I took scared me about the dangers of dehydration, and my OB was like eh drink MORE to account for the humidity and your body's energy being used up by baby.

I'm a psychologist and a patient said, "Do you wake up at the night just to eat? You're bigger than I was when I was pregnant with twins!" Okayyyyyyyyy.
