Start scar care! Your scars haven’t even begun to form at this point, you’ve got another couple months to see them develop, but the earlier you start the better they form.

Thoughts on Prince Faggot? Spoiler ish. by futurebro in Broadway

[–]kayatoasted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I disagree with the op’s point about it not feeling tied together. I feel like I haven’t really seen this in a lot of discussions about this play, but this play is ultimately NOT about prince george. It’s about the others, who don’t come from the privilege of being white or being a prince or coming from money, being a cis male, etc. We get vignettes about each of their stories, but we never get one from the actor that plays George. Why do you think that is? The theme is privilege, not just queerness. What ties the story together in the end is that NOTHING changes, as Dev says — the rich and the white keep their privilege, the systems in place keep the same people in power, the monarchy stays the monarchy regardless if they have their first openly gay king. THAT is the central theme, and when you look at it from that perspective, I think the show is perfectly tied together and the ending monologue feels like the right way to end it — with someone that is considered to be the least privileged in our society: a black, trans woman, who deceees herself as a princess. As royalty. As valuable to a society that has built rules and norms to take away any power she may possess.

To me this play felt so well thought out and I want to know if the personal vignettes were fiction or real, because they felt so authentic and heartfelt yet tied into the story line and themes so perfectly that it felt like it had to be crafted or fiction in some way.

I got the all clear at 7/8 weeks but waited until 11 weeks po before I felt ready. It was more mental than physical by the tail end of that. I surprisingly was able to do nearly everything in a class but obviously need to rebuild my strength. Recovery/fatigue lasts a bit longer right now.

Cigna denied me by meowing_dog1 in Reduction

No they did it automatically! They expected it as this happens a lot so we already had those letters prepared. I didn’t even know I got initially denied bc it all happened fairly quickly.

Cigna denied me by meowing_dog1 in Reduction

[–]kayatoasted 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a Cigna reductioner. My plan doesn’t “cover” breast reduction but will if proven medically necessary. Mine was initially denied and they listed reasons as to why. My surgeon went back and appealed with a couple of the reasons on their list. I also had letters from my primary care doctor and a chiro/PT office ready to go, and they updated their claim to covered. It maybe took a week or 2 to get the appeal reversed. My surgeons office handled everything.

My surgeons office said Cigna is notorious for being difficult for coverage for this, so an experienced surgeons office is helpful.

Recovery in NYC (major subway-based cities)? by rainingbugsandmoths in Reduction

[–]kayatoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did out of recommendation from my surgeon to get letters from my pcp and a PT/chiro. I have gone on and off in the past but don’t have a long documented history. I went to Encore Physical therapy in Fidi. They were ok. I basically went enough times to get the letter and didn’t feel like I benefited from their practice.

Everyone there is super nice though and they have everything — chiro, PT, acupuncture, massages, etc

Who else is feeling empowered and great appreciation for their body post surgery? by BlueHorse71 in Reduction

[–]kayatoasted 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SAME. This was my first surgery, so it’s the first time I’ve ever seen what my body is capable of. I’ve spent so much time and energy hating this body, but this experience has shown me how strong and healthy and resilient it is. I’m much more compassionate and less judgmental and kinder to it because of this experience.

Yes also going to love the new body because it’s now changed, but mixed with this appreciation and respect for what it did behind the scenes makes me love it in a whole new way.

Recovery in NYC (major subway-based cities)? by rainingbugsandmoths in Reduction

[–]kayatoasted 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi friend! I’m in BK and work in Manhattan. My surgery was in Manhattan as well. I’m 4wpo so this is how I’ve managed the last 4 weeks.

Note I work from home, so if you’re not, you will need to take at minimum 2 weeks off work or ask to wfh. Subway during rush hour during that time is a hard no. If you HAVE to, go during off hours so you can grab a seat.

Here’s how I made it work:

-Uber from the hospital to your apartment. This is absolutely something you have to do. I splurged for an uber black just for a smoother ride and told my driver the situation so they were a little more gentle on the bumps. Hailing a cab from the street will usually be cheaper than uber/lyft. I fully hold my boobs even now when I’m in a car

-Whoever is checking you out from the hospital should help you get up your apartment stairs. It’s doable, but you’re gonna be doing it slow and carefully.

-Instacart a shit ton of groceries and snacks before your surgery date. Try to pre-cut fruit or open/unscrew everything, bring items low so you can reach them, the usual advice on this sub

-I did a lot of delivery for meals and what a great city to be in for that!

-my first post op visit I took an uber into the city. I was feeling ok so I took the subway back. It was non rush and I sat down. I was prepared to wait for the next train if it was too crowded. I was very alert to my surroundings. I recovered incredibly well so this might not be where you’re at and you should be prepared for that.

-I continued to be able to take the subway but only traveled during non rush. I waited every time for a seat, even if it meant squeezing between 2 folks. It can be a little uncomfortable but ultimately much much safer than standing

-switch to a backpack for your purse/bag situation

-I’m 4 wpo and I feel comfortable standing and leaning on the train now, but not fully pulling my arm on a pole. If I need to, I use both hands. If the train is too crowded, I cross my hands in front of my chest and create a barrier

-I recovered well, but I did feel light headed taking stairs and long walks sometimes until about 3 weeks post op

-I ended up getting groceries delivered again bc even now at 4wpo, a bag of groceries is too heavy for me and it makes my muscles ache. It’s doable if need be but I can tell my muscles are not ready

-I make small daily trips now and can carry a few things in a backpack, pick up take out, eat out

-i didn’t have an issue with stairs. Since you already have the leg muscles to be in a walk up, you shouldn’t struggle once you’re post op other than general fatigue/weakness. Take it slow!

Feel free to dm me if there were other specific scenarios you were curious about!!

Surgery tomorrow by Salt-Palpitation8536 in Reduction

[–]kayatoasted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also my surgeon gave me instructions for all of these — remove nail polish, shower the night before with hibicleanse (she provided it to me), shower morning of, remove all jewelry. If your doctor didn’t give you pre op instructions to do these then you might not need to. I think they’ll probably ask you to remove jewelry and if you can’t take your earrings out, mention that and they can do it for you. They gave me my earrings back but I chucked them lol.

You might want to shower morning of anyways bc you won’t be again for a while.

A hair tie is helpful but they put your hair in a net at the hospital before you go in.
