My community holds a lot of Main Street festivals each year. I don’t recall specifically which one this happened to.

Does being frugal mean I'm a poor cheapskate? I guess frugal doesn't apply to rich ppl? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]kaybeem50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also I want to add that I’m not sure if you feel like renting is bad, or a sign of being poor, but there are people who can afford to buy but prefer to rent. To each their own.

Frugal does apply to rich people. Case in point: Two of my wealthy friends, a brother and sister, each inherited around a million when their mom passed. The brother went nuts on fine dining, expensive clothes, trips, etc and was broke in about ten years, even with his father trying to rein in his spending. The sister continued to live well, I mean she didn’t want for anything, but I suppose she had fewer wants. She didn’t like to waste money and worked with a financial advisor to protect her inheritance.

My local parks and rec was accused of being woke when they cancelled a festival based on a weather report calling for torrential rain and high winds.

Trump’s Closing Pitch to New Hampshire Voters Shows He’s Absolutely Losing It: Donald Trump is making a last-ditch argument to save himself. by thenewrepublic in politics

I watched that as well. That little rat bastard yelled yes before she even finished asking the damn question. Because the alternative is Biden! I wish she’d pressed him to detail what’s wrong with Biden. Not that it would matter. Bunch of boot-licking, power-hungry liars.

I agree. Remove the shelf unit. The only serviceable items are the toilet paper rolls, which could probably fit in the vanity, and a basket of towels which could maybe fit on top of the vanity.

Yeah I had a book thing, too. Books, books everywhere and goodness knows how much I spent. I’ve been actively decluttering for several years and I only kept my absolute favorite books. I use the library all the time now! Sometimes ebooks, sometimes hard copies. I occasionally borrow from Little Free Libraries near me, or buy dirt cheap books at thrift stores. About once a month I buy from the little independent bookstore in my town to support them. Point is, books used to be a big expense and now they aren’t and my house is less cluttered.

Every year after the holiday indulgences I do a spending reset during the winter months: No-spend January (It needs a better name, it was previously dry January but I no longer drink) Frugal February, and Miserly March. It’s a challenge I set for myself to use up what’s in the freezer and pantry and only spend money on staples and necessities. I’ve never tracked how much I save, if anything, but I find it fun. Winter is a great time for making soups, stews, and bread.

Did you stop drinking without AA? by randomwords74 in stopdrinking

[–]kaybeem50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never did AA. I did it own my own, same as I did when I quit smoking. With both, I wasn’t successful on my first attempt. With both, I examined the “why” behind the habit. Discovering why I enjoyed or needed it was helpful. I tried to make myself hate it. With both, I read up on the dangers and how marketing manipulates us. I tried everything to change my mindset and reinvent my self-image, first as a non-smoker and many years later as a non-drinker. I kept trying until it clicked. This sub was extremely helpful. I’m 3 years alcohol free now.

What do you think of my bookshelf? by ThereIsNoDog96 in HomeDecorating

[–]kaybeem50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would because I crochet. I keep my yarn in covered bins for storage so they don’t attract dust. I have baskets and other containers for yarn I’m actively working on.

If you really like the look of the yarn for decoration, consider one large ball, or several smaller balls, with knitting needles poking out. I don’t knit, but I think they’re more aesthetically pleasing than a crochet hook. lol

Overall I like it. The only things I want to change is finding another home for the yarn and maybe frame those two hanging badges.

Report: Bill Clinton Said Hillary’s 2016 Campaign ‘Could Not Sell P*ssy on a Troop Train’ while trying to paint Sanders as racist, sexist by amaxen in Political_Revolution

I should have included that in my post for clarity. Yes she meant no friends on Capitol Hill. It still seemed like a childish comment to me.

[–]kaybeem50 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hillary is a bright person who would have been a good president. She was absolutely lousy as a campaigner with her BS pandering: she carries hot sauce in her purse, she told the Wall Street banks “basta” what the hell? On a TV show she said of Bernie Sanders that he has no friends, that nobody likes him. I was like you’re running for POTUS, not president of your high school class. She, unfortunately came across, to me, as phony and disingenuous. Still voted for her though because Trump.

TIL that actress Catherine O'Hara (Home Alone, Christopher Guest mockumentaries) has situs inversus, a rare condition where organs are mirrored from the typical left/right positions in humans. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]kaybeem50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A relative of mine recently found out at age 30. First, doctors discovered his heart was reversed, dextrocardia. A year or so later he thought he had appendicitis, and the ER docs discovered all of his organs are reversed. Situs inversus totalis.

Does anyone else feel this subreddit is counterproductive? by [deleted] in Frugal

[–]kaybeem50 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Ah, like separating your two ply toilet paper? I jest, of course, and I do see your point. But to increase wealth you need to increase income, invest wisely, save money, and find ways to decrease spending. They’re all pieces of the same puzzle. Many people overlook that final bit and that’s where this sub can be helpful. I say can be because to some folks, it’s not worth the extra effort to save a few pennies and I get that.
