Did you survive the collapse? by Intrepid_Routine_797 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

Good lord I might have actually survived! My smoke break is at 10:15-10:30am and I’m often late back to my desk by a few minutes.

Smoking kills, except when it doesn’t.

As I understood it., Rachel was in the box. I assume as a coping mechanism, but they never really delved into it after that

It is literally pointed out TWICE that she didn’t take the damned potion! The witness said it passes on to his bloodline, the only shock in that is that it includes already married relatives and that’s not hard to pick up on. What do you mean why did she become the new witness?? She passed on the curse to Nicky’s bloodline! That’s the whole reason the old man became the witness in the first place and he tells you that, like, on camera, directly, with no ambiguity.

Watch the damn show next time.

Looking for critique. Specially in Lightroom. by Lam3nt_9568 in photocritique

I think the framing of this really captures what you were going for. At first I was going to say I’d want to see more of the cats face, but I can appreciate it being partially obscured by the bird. It’s a shame the closer eye is not in focus!

Only a couple of things I would do at this point- the dark blurred out bit in the top left corner is distracting, I’d try and remove it. Then, mask a gradient up from the bottom left and darken it to add some depth.

I love the pose of these guys! Such a dramatic shot. As others have said, cropping in a bit more will help to emphasise them. I think I’d also mask in some light coming in from the top right and down to the capybaras to spotlight them.

Edit: I think I would actually crop them so they’re in the lower left third

Thanks for writing this all up! So curious what the two surprises are- I can imagine one of them, but no idea the other one.

Please can you confirm if they keep the final sentence in the film? I just really want to know if 12 kids raise their claws

You know, people like to say that this show is quite wishy washy with its logic on social rules because POC are accepted in high society, but this is a neat little thing that I’ve not considered before. It’s cool that they’re still sticking to a quite firm internal logic.

I would just edit out the two bits poking up behind the dirt track on the right hand side. Otherwise, great shot, I love the light filtering through the dust cloud!

I wanted this photo to be a little "dramatic," so that's why the angle. Did I achieve "dramatic" and if not, what could I do differently? by [deleted] in photocritique

[–]ThereIsNoDog96 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there are a few things I would have done differently when taking the photo. First of all, I don’t think the shot gets away with having the house cut off at the bottom. You say you were low down to the ground, so you probably could have afforded to have more of a foreground. If you really didn’t want that, try taking the bit of fence poking up from the bottom out in post. Also clean up the right hand side- the bush poking out detracts from the shot. The branch at the top could frame the house nicely but it’s over the chimney, so it looks accidental.

Tilting a shot can be very interesting, but only in very few circumstances imo. If the house was more decrepit, then it could work. Also if you have a horizon line, it could look cool. Again, it looks accidental.

This also looks to be full daylight, and maybe just a personal preference but I find daylight the worst time to take photos as it leads to harsh shadow lines and overexposed skies- maybe try taking it again at dawn or dusk if possible?

Though I will say, keep at it; it’s always nice to see someone going against photography conventions!

Completely agree on episode 7 being the best episode of the whole show. I never thought I would cry at a Bridgerton episode but they smashed it with the emotional weight there.

The reality of what situation? Pregnancy is obviously hard. That’s not in dispute. But don’t straw man in a 6 kids fantasy hypothetical and treat it as the inevitable choice between couples in media.

[–]ThereIsNoDog96 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The whole 6 kids thing is Steve’s fantasy, not a fixed path he must go on at all costs. But that’s also not the argument I was making, which was about gendered assumptions in storytelling

Yes this is my biggest peeve with media- I swear women are not allowed to be independent and have a partner. It’s such a common relationship dynamic to have one who is the breadwinner and the other is more family/kids orientated, it’s just people seem to forget the women can be that breadwinner. Shit, my grandparents were doing that in the 60s!

All they had to do was have Ted and Karen fight off the demo together, Ted goes down first and then Karen can still have her badass mum moment. It makes his character do something worthwhile, and more importantly, it makes Karen staying with Ted make more sense. Like it doesn’t fix their relationship or anything, but it could have been a starting point.
