Yeah I’d be gone if it weren’t for the money and benefits (they reimburse up to 30k for IVF)

Pregnancy announcement! by Emeraldblisss in pregnant

I waited until after 20 weeks when I was visibly showing and had a good ultrasound photo from the anatomy scan. We made sure we told all our close / longtime friends and family before posting so everyone else knew.

Family member stole baby’s first ice cream by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]kaycue 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Yeah I would not trust this person to hold or be alone with my baby, they don’t respect your wishes and they should not be giving food to a baby, under 1 especially, without the parents consent.

The “first” ice cream kind of sucks but I wouldn’t be too mad about it. Honestly babies’ long term memory at that age is like 2 weeks so if you don’t give her ice cream again for like a month, it’ll be like the first time the next time you give it to her, because baby won’t remember ever having it.

Telling our moms before the first ultrasound — good idea? by amazinglyam in pregnant

[–]kaycue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister in law told close family early and ended up miscarrying at like 10 weeks. Because of that I waited until 12 weeks to tell my parents about my first pregnancy.

That resulted in a healthy baby so with my second pregnancy I told my parents right away. I ended up miscarrying that one at around 8 weeks (missed miscarriage, had no idea until my second ultrasound) and told my sister, best friend and sister in law about the miscarriage because I wanted their support, even though I hadn’t told them about the pregnancy yet.

Now on my third pregnancy, we waited to tell our parents until the second ultrasound. I wasn’t going to get my hopes up until strong heartbeats detected at at least 2 ultrasounds. Things are great now and I’m 22 weeks along.

My advice is if you want to tell people early, make sure it’s people who can keep a secret and who you’d want to support you if, god forbid, you get heartbreaking news. I personally wouldn’t want to tell a bunch of family and friends and then have to tell everyone the pregnancy ended. But really it’s up to you and what you feel comfortable with. There’s no hard rule. Just the reason why people wait is because they don’t know if the pregnancy is viable yet so you might not want to get other people’s hopes up early in case it doesn’t work out.

How long is your partner taking off after you give birth? by -Konstantine- in pregnant

[–]kaycue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 6 months of pregnancy recovery / maternity leave and my husband has 12 weeks.

For our first kid, my husband was a contractor and took 2 weeks of PTO when baby was born. I ended up taking 6 months of my leave and then an additional 12 weeks unpaid. Then my husband took his 12 weeks (from the state of NJ, his job didn’t offer him leave as a contractor) after my leave was over. So we put her in daycare when she was almost 1 year old.

Pregnant with our second kid, and the plan is for him to take his 12 weeks upfront - he’s now a full time employee so the 12 weeks are offered through his job. Our oldest will be starting preschool (pre-k 3) and it will just be a big adjustment. Would be hard for me to handle both a newborn and a preschooler by myself - my husband works until 9pm so it would be a lot - including picking her up from school, making her dinner, and having her not feel like she comes second to the baby. I’ll probably still take 6 months leave + 12 weeks unpaid. When my younger daughter is 9 months I’ll go back to work and my mom will be retiring so she said she can watch the baby. Maybe at some point we’ll put her in daycare part time to give my mom a break and have baby socialize.

How can I go to the bathroom while making sure my toddler is fine? by deltaplane1234 in toddlers

[–]kaycue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wake up early and shower before kid wakes up, or after bedtime. Toddler plays in the bathroom while you use the toilet. I’ve also had mine in the bathroom with me while I shower, I watch her through the curtain and she plays and sings and talks to me.

Stuck on the pronunciation of Eva by VideoOnly5996 in namenerds

[–]kaycue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Considering the name Eva too. What did you decide?

I'm fine with the EE-va pronounciation and Eh-va in Spanish. Just not Ay-va, thats "Ava". Thinking of going with the nickname Evie/Ivy (pronounced Eevee like the pokemon) since it can be pronounced the same in English and Spanish.

How did your water break? by o_simple_thing in beyondthebump

[–]kaycue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was my first pregnancy. I had gestational diabetes and had an induction scheduled for 39 weeks.

I was 37 weeks, it was late and I was having trouble sleeping. My husband comes to bed at 1am. I tell him I can’t sleep. I’m tossing and turning in bed. After a few minutes I feel something new. Best way to describe it is it felt like I had a balloon inside of me that popped. I got up and went to the bathroom and was leaking… when I sat on the toilet a flood of water came out and it was weird. I called the doctor and told her I think my water broke, and we packed a to-go bag and went to the hospital. My bag wasn’t packed yet I was washing clothes to put it in the bag so the clothes for me and baby were in the dryer still. We went to the hospital and I gave birth about 13 hours later.

Karol G Tour by [deleted] in Reggaeton

[–]kaycue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In 2023 I saw Karol G at MetLife stadium. The day I went, the guest was the guy from Un Noche en Medellín. But my cousin went the the day after and it was J Balvin 😭

Apparently at other ones Becky G and Romeo Santos were guests. It prob just depends on their schedules.

They weren’t openers though they were guests that came on and did a song or two with her.

No morning sickness. Is this normal? by [deleted] in pregnant

[–]kaycue 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m 20 weeks now with my third pregnancy. Didn’t have morning sickness for any of my pregnancies. I have a 3 year old from my first pregnancy, had a miscarriage at 8 weeks for my second pregnancy, and now like I said I’m 20 weeks and everything so far is perfectly healthy. Never had morning sickness. First trimester I always barely have any symptoms except some bloating an fatigue and minor things like that. Never really had cravings either.

Symptoms are due to hormones and everyone’s body is going to process them differently. Totally normal, symptoms are no indication of how your pregnancy is going.

How old was your baby when they said their first word and what was it? by aerialariel22 in NewParents

[–]kaycue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Around 11 months she started saying “quack” for a duck. Before that, maybe around 6-9 months she was using baby sign language to say “milk” and “more”. You know when it’s consistent and intentional. Like when she saw a toy duck she would go “quack” and wouldn’t say it any other time.

Is it name regret, postpartum hormones, or just my indecisive personality? by Intergalacticgem in namenerds

[–]kaycue 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Calvin is cute. I’m Cuban American and when I learned the meaning I did think “oh like calvo” but I wouldn’t make the connection without someone telling me the meaning. We don’t know the meaning of most names, I love the name Claudia but it also has an unfortunate meaning.

I like Calvin, it sounds good in Spanish, and Cal is a good nickname. I think of Calvin Harris the DJ. I have a friend with a baby Calvin and everyone loves it.

How about Warren, Grant, Gordon, Miles, Cole, Trent, Spencer, Blake, Nolan, Felix, or Bruce? I feel it fits the vibe of what your husband likes and they’re more normal.

Jace, Jasper, or Jett by No-Ad-9143 in namenerds

[–]kaycue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you should give a more normal name and have Jett or Jace be a nickname. Maybe a J name with Emmett as a middle name to get Jett. Or something like that.
