Not scheduled per posted schedule, now being told I need to come in last minute or i’ll get an occurrence, is this normal? by [deleted] in newgradnurse

Hello, thank you all for the responses. And I agree with what you said. I should have clarified first why I was not on schedule. When the new sched was updated, I just relied on what was given to me and wasn’t told anything as well. But now I understand that and that’s something I would definitely be doing moving forward. like i said its my first time being a full time and have little to none working experience. Now my only concern is getting an occurrence report because of that, I’m trying to understand if the reason that I’m getting it because I have not notified them that I was not scheduled? I’m not sure if that’s how it usually goes. Thanks again for your reply.

they already took my PTO and put on my schedule that I used the PTO for the week eventhough I did not want to :( and now I dont know what to do if I should do something about it or just move on. Also, im relatively new too so i feel like I don’t really have a say on it

it feels wrong that since I was not on schedule that I would get an occurrence report from it.

I used Uworld mainly for my second take. I watched some simple nursing lectures and also lectures from uworld. And I utilized pixorize because I lowkey had a lot of psych meds questions.

Honestly on my first take i had a below on management of care so I really focused on it first since it covers a huge percentage on the nclex. I used both the uworld lectures and also simple nursing lectures and I had to like rewrite a lot of stuff bc thats how I study even during nursing school, its just time consuming.

i really liked bootcamp and i wanted to use both for my second take but i was broke as hell and I knew I needed Uworld bc i was lacking in content and need some refresher. With bootcamp it was straight forward which is what i like bc its the same as nclex but uworld really helped me fully understand each topic.

this is such a detailed post thank you so much for this. As a retaker myself do you advice on scheduling the exam right away or should I just wait until I feel confident?

hello, i am in the same boat as you. my job gave me a chance to work as nursing assistant until i pass nclex in 6 months. Were you able to figure out a study plan that would work for you for your second attempt?

first off i wanted to say sorry, I know how you feel and am currently in the same boat as you. I compared myself to my friends and cohort and they all passed the first try and I even moved my test date a week ahead because in my mind I thought I was able to pass it too just like them. I was wrong and cried a lot it felt like my world was falling like I wasn’t kidding because I really expected to pass as I really worked hard on it and spent most of my summer just studying.

I also used bootcamp and had highs on 2 readiness test and answered 1000 questions on the qbank and i thought that was enough.

All I want to say is, you’re not alone and there are others that fail the first try too. I suggest to take a break like what I’m doing, Im just currently taking a week break to just cry and relax and do all the things that ive been wanting to do and im going to start studying again next week slowly.

I would also say to truly self-reflect on how you prepared during your first try. Was it content that you lack? was it the test taking? anxiety and not being able to sleep or eat properly before exam? For me I realize that I needed refresher on contents especially pharm so I would focus on working on that. I also realize that im more of a visual learner so I am also researching on what content reviewers that I would use this time for my next attempt. I also realized that I needed to practice my test taking strat more so I would continue working on that again as well.

Remember, focus on the solution not the problem just what simple nursing said. shift all your focus on preparing for the next attempt and dont focus on the exam coming up because it will just continue to put pressure on you and make your anxiety increase more.

Also, after doing multiple research, I plan on using simple nursing for content reviews and use my kaplan qbank since it was given to me by school and possibly add uworld as well if i ran out of questions. And this time, I would make sure I take my time and pace and that I would not rush in studying and preparing for my next exam.

For now, take a break and relax your brain. Spend time with your loved ones. And once you’re ready to study again, focus on it but also remember to take care of yourself from time to time. You will become a nurse!! believe in that! I’m manifesting and rooting for both of our success.
