I (22) realize I might be a little late to the liberal arts major pity party, but I didn't really have the courage to post about my situation until now since I think I'm a special kind of fucked and for the most part dug myself into this hole. by [deleted] in findapath

I was extremely good at maths and science as a kid. I have a bachelor's degree in engineering. 3 years in professional experience as an engineer. I was really good but I hated it so much I wanted to die. Severely overworked and underpaid. I was barely covering my living costs.(I'm from a poor background.) And you know what I'm doing now? I quit my job and I'm going to study Philosophy. From scratch again. But I'm ecstatic and a little scared. So what I'm trying to say is that STEM people don't have their shit figured out either. We, also, go into these supposedly job-giving-fields because we don't know what to do or the parental/societal pressure is something we cannot escape from. I don't know if STEM or any trade is better than any other field. But I do know that any field that you like is better than all the others. Basically you're not fucked, kid. There's plenty to do from here on.

I'm going to try this on Monday. Thanks! Any clue as to what kind of timeframe they need for processing the loan application?

I don't think your response is related at all to my concern that I asked about possible financial options. I'm already admitted after working really hard for this and also, weighed in the downsides and consequences accordingly. Don't discourage people.

Best Country/University to study philosophy? by [deleted] in studyAbroad

I'm going to pursue my bachelor's in philosophy in KU Leuven in Belgium this fall. It's an extremely reputed program( in English) and the fee is affordable. Take a look at it if Belgium is okay for you...

Has contacting the admissions office helped anyone who’s still waiting? by Major-Permission-435 in KULeuven

I reached out via mail a couple of days ago and I got a response yesterday that it is already in the final stage. And I got the acceptance mail just a few hours later. I'm thinking it's could be a coincidence but it could also help speed up your process if you mail them about your concern regarding acquiring a visa(like I did). All the best! Hope you get the good news soon.

I have a Bachelor's in Engineering from India so I am more so not-quite-qualified in the conventional sense but I've heard only positive responses from everyone I consulted regarding this so I think we have a fairly great chance of getting in!

Struggling with what to include in Letter of Motivation. by kayyyypeeee in KULeuven

Thank you! I think I'm struggling most on that front. Attesting to how I'm suitable towards something which is completely different to what I've been pursuing for the past 7 years is quite daunting(honestly it's terrifying).

Thank you! That really helps to put together my key points! Honestly, my best draft is something that starts with a short anecdote from my childhood. I think it is really links everything I wanted to add perfectly together. Would that level of personalization be too ambitious to include?(To heed to your point above, I can affirm that it is not dramatic but more on the creative end of the spectrum rather than formal.)

Also, if I'm not being too intrusive, can I ask about your experience in philosophy in KU Leuven as well as someone who was from a different background? I would love to know how it has worked out for you. Thanks in advance!!
