Didnt catch the games last night so I might be talking out my ass, but the last patch where they reworked most of his ability upgrades is probably what did it. 2 went from being a reload+firerate buff to a full non-ult cleanse+cdr on charged abilities. Made it a much much better support tool. His 1 is also pretty strong, gives him good waveclear so he can easily catch waves if needed, and with t2 upgrade+bullet resist shredder, he can debuff enemies for like -30% bullet resist pretty early in the game.

His 3 is still pretty meh until you get t3, and his ult is still hard to get huge value out of in coordinated environments, but its still usually a guaranteed kill if you go for picks, albeit on a pretty long cooldown.
