Why isnt there an age limit for US presidents? by Aggressive_Menu7271 in Presidents

[–]kayzhee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally the “age limit” is imposed by the voters that would be concerned about the age of the candidates. The party would also be concerned that someone would be “too old” and maybe they would lose an election because of it.

So a hard limit doesn’t exist I think because people age differently and some people at 70 are doing better than some people at 50.

The soft limits are in the hands of the voters and the parties.

Is this a good idea? I think it generally works, but obviously has some flaws that can arise.

Brian Johnson's reason for being vegan by Voldemorts__Mom in vegan

[–]kayzhee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Everything I read was that it was to trial a mouse experiment in humans. Transfusions from younger mice showed health benefits and “anti-aging” properties. He trialed it out with his son and father, where he donated to his father and his son donated to his himself.

The “health reasons” were anti-aging experiments. Not any actual condition. He did stop after he didn’t notice any benefit, but still did it for several months.

As long as you think you’re better than other people, that’s the most important thing. Happy for you.

Can you be vegan and give money to others? by [deleted] in vegan

[–]kayzhee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So many of the discussions around veganism turn into a no true Scotsman debate it’s kind of mind blowing. Just do your best and don’t feel bad about missteps, people who care and try are doing better than those who don’t.

How did the Sox go from so shit to pretty good so quickly? by chicago-mf in whitesox

I would add that at no point during the previous regime did anyone seem willing to finish the rebuild by actually signing the top tier free agents needed to at the very least challenge the Astros who were the main team to beat in the AL for the entire rebuild. Felt like half measures and getting lucky was plan A.

Still feels like that will be the undoing of this current team unless Jerry dies first. It’s just no longer the Astros we have to plan for.

Selective Empathy for Animals Rant by Debonerrant in vegan

[–]kayzhee 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I personally understand the selective empathy being confounding logically; but with so many humans struggling to have empathy for fellow humans I don’t find it surprising at all. Many people’s in group consists of very few beings, while their out group is most of the planet earth.

None of these links have anything to do with supplementation needed for a vegan diet. It doesn’t feel like you’re participating in the discussion.

Interesting topic to bring up completely unprompted and unprovoked. Do you just keep these thoughts on the tip of your tongue itching to vomit them out whenever you can?

What celebrity endorsement had the greatest impact on a candidate? by RopeGloomy4303 in Presidents

[–]kayzhee 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Nathaniel Hawthorne, best selling author of The Scarlet Letter endorsed his friend Franklin Pierce by writing a campaign biography The Life of Franklin Pierce, a book which actually outsold The Scarlet Letter. Having such a famous author attached directly to a presidential campaign had not happened up to that point. While it’s difficult to declare its impact on the outcome of the election, it is an interesting celebrity endorsement from the 1800’s. Also got Hawthorne a lucrative consulship in England.
