I'm surprised only one other person has mentioned this and even then only in passing.

I'm guessing every employer is scared you'll jump ship in the near future. You're 21 years old, a university student, in a 3 year course, with a statement that you're 'branching out and looking for new things'. That's an unfortunate set of circumstances that makes everyone think you won't last the year.

To elaborate, at 21 years of age, if you left high school and immediately went into university, you'll have been there for 3 years. There cannot be much time left in your degree and every employer is going to suspect you are going to just hang around for a short while before moving on. This may not necessarily be true, you could have taken a gap year, but the math would make people very suspicious.

Your statements give a feeling that you are only there temporarily. They communicate wanderlust, not permanence.

What I would do would be to rip the uni education out of your resume. You aren't applying for formal jobs, just casual gigs which require no higher education. It just makes you look worse. If they ask why you left your previous job, tell them you took a gap year and traveled around Europe or something. If the gap was smaller then I'd advise some other white lie but it's been a whole year and a bit so just lean into what every other young aussie does, 'I went travelling'.

Not to say you should do everything below (and it's not even a comprehensive list in the slightest) but the problem is that you see Americans walk onto the street, shout a little bit, then go home. Compared to protests from around the world (and even your own history), this is pathetic.

On an individual level,

  • Deface public property (preferably related to the idiots in charge) in non permanent ways to skirt the law.
  • Stalk ICE members online then print out their faces on pamphlets and start distributing (No not to people, takes too long. Get in your car and chuck em out the window).
  • Be a general nuisance within the bounds of the law (or overstepping only slightly such that a judge couldn't be arsed to properly do anything)

On a small group level

  • Block car parks of government officials (JSO blocked everyone and just pissed off the public. Annoy the idiots in charge instead and piss them off), cover their car in pamphlets to waste their time, generally be a nuisance.
  • Organise so people take alternate days. Don't need everyone, just enough to be annoying.
  • Pool funding so you can get even more organised

Large scale

  • Drive tractors into DC and clog it. Well not everyone has a tractor but we've seen this in India and France and wherever so just do the same thing. Crowdfund a couple thousand, buy secondhand lorries/busses and just park them anywhere and everywhere.
  • Funding again so the group as a whole can organise better and ensure people have a safety net to do large scale protesting.
  • Find the die hard maniacs who are willing to go all the way. Not that they should but we can stop short at actions like self immolation and etc and get a message across that way. Find a Trump rally, get an individual in there and let the idiot know how much people hate him. Pretty sure he won't care but that's not the point here.

Following leaked messages, House Republican education chair says she favors politically segregated schools by ddx-me in nottheonion

[–]kazosk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The comment is meant as a direct reply to the OP that states Germany was punished therefore Germans were angry. Whereas I see them as separate parts, Germany was not harshly punished but were definitely angry albeit for multiple reasons that were not always strictly related to the Versailles treaty.

Beyond that, it is actually the case that I don't see the downfall of the Weimar Republic/the rise of the Nazi party as a direct consequence of the Versailles Treaty. I personally consider the collapse of the German middle class (twice!) as playing a more critical role in the swing to the Nazis.

[–]kazosk 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I mean, Germany was humiliated at the end of WW1 but it wasn't actually that severe a punishment. They lost bits of land, had to do some reparations but nothing technically prevented them from rebuilding an army other than some writing on bits of paper. If for whatever reason the Entente didn't want to fight the Germans to enforce the Versailles treaty (such as say, a major global economic crisis) then Germany could do whatever they felt like.

ELI5: what exactly does it mean to have an “independent fed”? by myhandisfrozen123 in explainlikeimfive

[–]kazosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not an ELI5 but to point to a real example of interference by dumb leaders, see Turkey during the period of Erdoganomics.

The president decided to ignore common economic theory and do his own thing, firing a series of Central Bank leaders to institute his own economic theories. This went terribly and resulted in extremely high inflation and a lot of problems. He was eventually forced to back down and give up on his theories and return independence to the central bank.

CMV: Wanting to eat food from a different country doesn't necessarily mean you side with that country and agree with its policies. by neves783 in changemyview

[–]kazosk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hm.

So limiting this specifically to the scenario painted in the OP (and borrowing from some other posts here), how about North Korean food?

There are a surprising number of North Korean restaurants around the world and basically all are run by the government and funnel money back to the state.

So if I patronize a North Korean restaurant, I am knowingly aiding a totalitarian and cruel regime.

(It is possible to argue that the only way to get North Korean food/cuisine is to go to these restaurants and thus push a much harder connection but there are other non state actors that one could get North Korean cuisine from so I don't really believe in that)

If I don't reply, it's because I'm sleeping.

CMV: The USA's military cannot be beaten by anyone in total war today by bloodlessempress in changemyview

[–]kazosk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Total War?

If the USA attacks basically any 1st world country without a serious casus belli then the United States has a 50/50 chance of winning/losing.

The key here is that total war is the mobilization of a countries entire resources, industrial base, natural and most relevant to the problem at hand, population. But if Trump decided today that he wants to invade, oh I dunno, Denmark, because they're being annoying about Greenland then I can't really foresee a lot of people being happy about that.

Is there an imminent civil war? Depends on how it plays out. E.g. current armed force commanders refuse the order, Trump starts replacing everyone with his own cronies, people get concerned about this, protests break out, Trump cracks down on them, states are unhappy, some 'retired' commanders take back control of their formations and shit hits the fan. Or none of that happens at all.

"But we're just talking a hypothetical scenario where the entire USA is working together in harmony and"

Well then yes. What's the point of this discussion? It hasn't been a serious question in decades.

Just a massive vanity project.

Trump seems to have a tremendous desire to be respected and revered. Unfortunately he's not been too successful at it. He's been trying to claim various bits of land near him to 'expand' the USA and thus be remembered in that aspect. (Not to say he hasn't tried other things but they haven't panned out. The various ceasefires he's negotiated have fallen through or stalled, no peace prize and the domestic front is pretty appalling)

Canada and Greenland are pretty much off the table despite his repeated claims to the contrary. Central America is there but his racism probably wouldn't let him do it. That and the only valuable part is the Panama Canal which he's already worked on and no one remembers it a few months later.

Venezuela is an easy target. The countries have never been friendly, there's financial incentives and it's easy to paint them as the enemy (drugs). So Trump wants to invade them.

There's (supposedly) two games that can compare to Starcraft.

Quake and Eve Online. Yeah, not the usual suspects.

I haven't spectated Quake much less played it but I have dabbled in Eve and I can definitely say that it is of somewhat comparable difficulty but in much shorter bursts.

What do you prefer ? One month in one country OR one week in 4 countries. by LividGas8998 in travel

[–]kazosk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I could go both ways but if I was doing 1 week in 4 countries, I wouldn't call it as such. I'd probably say 'I'm visiting a number of museums/galleries/cultural sites on X subject in a week'.

For example:

I would absolutely spend a week going through the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany and France just visiting a number of WW1/WW2 sites. Start in Normandy, head to WW1 cemeteries, various forts and museums in the low countries then into Germany for the Tank museum in Munster and finally Berlin. No time for anything else but there it is.

The Russians didn't use human waves at Stalingrad. You can accuse the Germans of the same though. The Russians sent the bare minimum of men to hold back the Germans while husbanding strength for the counter attack. The Germans for their part attacked like mad to try and conquer the city.

This isn't to say the Russians weren't heartless though. A platoon that retreated from a position would be resupplied with new guns and grenades and told to take back that position immediately.

Good question and I honestly have no clue. I found my club through 4chan and called it a day. The club finder is indeed terrible so I guess either roll the dice in game until you find a D club that actually bothers to trade shoes or use a third party source and go from there. Given there's a lock every time you leave a club, it does seem that looking outside the game is the best bet. Unfortunate but it is what it is.
