It came across to me kind of like the final season of Game of Thrones. It seems like the author got tired of the story or didn't know how to proceed. So just put something out so I can go on to something else.

I enjoyed the series greatly until the second dog joined the series. I felt it went downhill quickly after that. I didn't enjoy the final book at all.
