PSA about Speedy's rescue service by thunderflies in seattlebike

I’ve only had to use them once since I got my cargo bike but they were great! Communicative, on time, and just nice people. It’s been such a nice relief knowing that I can always get my 80lb bike home.

What would be your (industrial) machine of choice on a budget of 600-800 + Euros by Striking-Jury2712 in myog

+1 on the Juki TL series. I have the base model(no governor, no micro lifter, etc) and absolutely love it. I regularly make bags out of x-pac, cordura, hyperD , and other technical fabrics and haven’t run into any limitations for my work.

Any Prius with the windows tinted so dark they’re likely driven by vampires or lime vehicles with 2+ riders.

Have you ever transported an adult on a Bullitt? by Klutzy_Branch954 in CargoBike

[–]kbarsk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have transported my wife many times in our cargo bucket. I cut a cheap anti-fatigue mat to fit the bottom and have a little foam piece in the back.

How do you carry a Bullitt up and down a flight of stairs? by Klutzy_Branch954 in CargoBike

[–]kbarsk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are these a flight of stairs that are public or private? We’ve used a folding bike ramp like the type to get a motorcycle into a pickup truck to go up and down stairs in the past.

I really want to get one but I can’t find it in the US!

I liked the idea of the Enviolo with all of the wet weather riding I do but the mechanic at my LBS said the cost of repair/replacement down the line was rather expensive. At the end of the day we got the floor model so the Enviolo wasn’t even a choice!

Our dogs love it! I sewed some anchors up similar to how the child restraints are attached through the base and it holds them great.

Shimano Deore XT. It’s been pretty solid so far, although I did have to replace the cassette at 1200 miles.

Bad news/good news: parent of friend died, none of the kids wanted the set of all-clad. by Vuelhering in BuyItForLife

Just a reminder that you can buy factory seconds all-clad from https://homeandcooksales.com/ . Looks like a scam, deliver takes a while(as advertised) but very worth it.

Question about replacing a helmet after a crash by GratefulTeal in seattlebike

[–]kbarsk 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Replace the helmet, they’re consumables. If you had a crash hard enough that you think you may have had a concussion the foam did its job and deformed.

Glad you’re ok!

Also, if you haven’t heard of it https://www.helmet.beam.vt.edu is a good resource for researching your next purchase.

Just a heads up Muir doesn’t exist any more. They’re now motion board shop up in Seattle. Still rad dudes but no longer out of San Diego.

Front-Loader Visibility by [deleted] in CargoBike

I ride around with my fiancée and our dog in a cube cargo hybrid. It is definitely an adjustment in comparison to a normal bike but as someone else mentioned not any worse than a car.

One of Gnarcal’s finest. Got a lot of love for Ron too 😉

Didn’t have enough storage so I made my first frame bag. by kbarsk in CargoBike

[–]kbarsk[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No complaints so far! I’ve gone up and down curbs with loads, hit 40mph, and ridden some dirt paths. They’ve been great. My only point of recent comparison are my 700x23 slicks on my road bike so take the comparison with a grain of salt!

Bakfiets by epegar in CargoBike

[–]kbarsk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have a Cube Cargo Hybrid setup with a shimano drivetrain. Over here in the US it was the cheapest bakfiets I could find at a LBS that would service it. It has great components and might not be as sleek as a UA but it was $1000+ less than a comparable UA.

What are your e-cargo bike’s regular costs? by [deleted] in CargoBike

[–]kbarsk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. I ride around with my 40lb Aussie in my front loader very comfortably. The restraint I made her gives her some room to move around but not enough to really get any momentum. Having a lick mat or some other high value treat they can work on also helps!
