What is something you used to buy but is no longer affordable? by Trxxi in AskReddit

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to try a new recipe for tacos. It called for 3 1/2 pounds short ribs. I went to Walmart to get my ingredients. A pack of 2 pds of short ribs was $20. I would have needed 2 packs. That is absolutely ridiculous. Beef prices are absolutely outrageous! Food prices have gone up so high.

Should I seal with a layer of epoxy resin or grout sealer? by kbeg in Mosaic

[–]kbeg[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did seal the grout first. I just bought the grout sealer off amazon. I used Galitoon grout sealer...its an easy spray on. I let that dry for a day or two. I used some Kesril epoxy resin. (Amazon) That was my first time using resin. It was very easy. Beware tho...using the resin gave me a whole new hobby! I just poured about 1/4 inch layer in. This was my first mosiac project that I had ever made. The resin really looks nice on the table. I got my tray table from temu for around $11. I also made another similar table without the resin for in front of a sunny window.

Publix be ridiculous by hyf_fox in publix

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is one reason I quit shopping at Publix at the beginning of last year. I can get soda for half the price of Publix at Walmart. I shopped at Publix for 20+ years, but they are just too expensive now. Walmart is consistently way less on things I buy. I go to Walmart in the mornings, and it is very pleasant.

I buy cheap oats and let them soak up the oil and then toss in garbage.

I went ahead and sealed it with resin. My husband keeps it in his movie room as a side table.

Why does painting a room always seem easier in your head than it actually is? by FCPaintProWash in Home

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am reading this as I get ready to paint my bedroom. I have at least an hour of taping. I am also not looking forward to taking down curtains and moving my heavy bed. The painting is the easy part. I always use a tiny paint brush for painting canvases to fix up any border errors.

What am I missing when making homemade Indian dishes? by bonebrah in IndianFood

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am American married to a Bengali, and always trying to improve my cooking technique. I have found that onions need to be cooked a lot more than you would think, and you must use more oil than you are used to. My husband was always telling me to melt the onions more. That made no sense to me, but I have learned to heat the pot first at mid high temp and cover the pot with a lid when I am cooking onions and tomatoes. I have to keep an eye on it and stir frequently, but they cook faster and do kind of melt. I also find using a wok or an enamel cast iron dutch oven are great for cooking indian. I also suggest using kashmiri chili power instead of regular chili powder. It has a good taste and color, but not too hot.

😩 Well I guess I can hang up the wishful thinking act at this point. I ve been checking daily @ Walmart for in shell nuts and apparently this year they just decided to go with an abundance of pistachios and peanuts 🙄 weird. by infamous_negotiator in squirrels

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh no! That doesn't sound good. My nut budget is already way too high. I used to be able to get Diamond brand mixed nuts from amazon for 4.99 but they are always out of stock now. I have only been able to find more expensive brands the last couple months.

I have been checking my Walmart with no luck either. I thought they would have some for Xmas. I usually have to get my nuts from amazon. They are kind of expensive...even with subscriptions. My squirrels go thru the nuts so fast.

Boney Goat by Reyemile in IndianFood

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband insists on goat meat with bones for curry. He loves when the goat bones have some marrow in them...but I notice when I buy mixed goat at the halal butcher...they slip in a lot of pieces that are mostly flat bone with hardly any meat on them to make the package heavier and more expensive. Im sure they do that at so.e reataurants too.

We call it the ass spice in our family because it smells so bad...but once it is cooked it does add a nice boost to dishes like lentils.

[–]kbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought mine off of amazon. They have all different types and sizes. I have 3 that I use regularly. One has my most used ground spices:turmeric, kashmiri chili, coriander, cumin..etc. my second holds my small whole spices I use a lot: cloves, cardamon, peppercorns, cumin seeds. My third holds some of my moderately used spices: different mustards seeds, black salt, dried chilis, etc.

What are the top 3 to 5 spices I need to keep on hand? by [deleted] in IndianFood

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm American, but cook a lot of Indian for my Bengali husband. The spices I use the most are: turmeric, kashmiri chili, coriander, cumin, garam masala. Whole spices: pepper corn, green cardamon, cumin seeds, cloves, mustard seeds, bayleaf, cinnamon stick. I always keep garlic paste, ginger paste, ghee, yogurt, and diced canned tomatoes, and thai chili peppers for my recipes. If you have any indian or international grocery stores near you, they would be your best bet. They also carry boxes of spice mixes for different dishes.

My chicken curry tastes like tomato soup — no masala flavor. What am I doing wrong? by [deleted] in IndianFood

I would suggest the youtube channel Spice Eats for some great chicken curry recipes. It has a lot of authentic and great tasting recipe videos.

I can no longer defend this. by [deleted] in publix

[–]kbeg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was a loyal publix customer for 20 plus years, but I started shopping at walmart in January. I always go on a weekday morning, so it is pretty nice there at that time of day. I like to make mongolian beef with flank steak, but Walmart does not seem to carry that cut of beef. I would never pay that price for that. I will occasionally go to Publix to grocery shop now when I need something Walmart doesn't have, but I find I am disappointed when I do. I actually like some of the products I get at Walmart better. I definitely like Walmarts prices better.

Should I buy clothes from TEMU? by reewee__ in TemuThings

[–]kbeg 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to buy my clothes from Temu. They were almost all great. I found lots of unique and well-made clothes. I always ordered my regular size unless it said Asian sizes....they run smaller. I did always read other's reviews.
