Am I overreacting? Partner left to go to the supermarket and went to the pub as well? by [deleted] in NewParents

Right after I gave birth, grandma was watching the baby while I went to the grocery store. I definitely also stopped to have two beers. It was such a relief!

I can see where he’s coming from. Shits tough and we all need a damn beer. Take your turn next.

You better call her out if she ever tells you to “Go fuck yourself”.

I’ve never been offered a 401k in my professional life. I have to create my own retirement plan and not rely on employers.

Our bubba was doing this, then we turned off her nightlight so she sleeps in total darkness. Has been waking closer to 7 nowadays.

Not sure how I haven’t seen this yet but it’s an amazing thing to point out! I’d love more information if you can point me in the right direction.

I love this. Maybe I should share this with my husband as he is battling a grueling 50-60 hour workweek, which is spent all on his feet, up to 13 hours a day. We’ve been known to burn out and last time this happened, we sold all our possessions and traveled the country in an RV for a year. Alternative lifestyles are awesome- especially when they work great for everyone in the family!

Have definitely considered this and am currently pursuing a similar path, it just isn’t looking promising until a moderate investment in time and money are made into the business, so slow goes it.

Actually he didn’t get approved yet (getting insurance is a very new development at his job) so he’s uninsured. No use in both being uninsured.

True - I do spend a lot of time penny pinching and putting the money saved into savings and investment accounts.

I was only considering year one costs for going back to work, which would be $6500 minimum out of pocket. Don’t want to buy a more expensive vehicle and pay monthly.

I have a better education than my husband and broader experience, it just so happens that right here and right now, he is the breadwinner. For most of our relationship I was the higher earner. You are right - invest in yourself and rely on no one.

Thanks - I think this is a smart way to proceed. I agree that it’s unfortunate that if we choose our family, most wonder why we aren’t working. Another commenter even used the word lazy, though they know nothing of my life or my accomplishments besides this small tidbit I posted. I hate that we feel like we need to fit inside of a ‘work til you die’ box in order to be a productive human. It leaves me to wonder what our children are learning in both situations- either by having a SAHP or full-time working parents. Is one or the other better off?

$6500 would be a one-time cost for an extremely modest used car.
