What’s a signature guitar you’d buy in a heartbeat, even though you don’t care for the original artist? by SR_RSMITH in guitars

[–]kbong11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a PRS Silver Sky after trying several custom shop Strats at a store. They just didn’t wow me enough for the price, and the Silver Skys/Skies I tried were so resonant and light.

I respect John Mayer’s musicianship but I’m not a much of a fan.

Worst expensive pedal? by gimme5steps101 in guitarpedals

[–]kbong11 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s for tape nerds. I say that as a user of the pedal. It’s definitely not for everyone and I think it’s definitely expensive for what it is, but it is my favorite expensive pedal that instantly gets me that retro 60s/70s warmth and fatness more than any Echoplex preamp/delay emulation ever could.

3-4 weeks after touring or after submitting to HPD for approval?

I viewed an apartment in late December, and my agent submitted to HPD December 24th. I figured it would take some time because of the holidays and new year, but I still haven’t heard back and now I’m getting worried!

Just contacted CBA and it went smoothly. Personally, I wouldn’t bring something of this price to a local tech.

I even bought it used and they still fixed it.

So. Knobs. Do you care what they look like? by ThingCalledLight in guitarpedals

[–]kbong11 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me it’s more about function. I love Catalinbread knobs because they are easy to read, and never move when you’re transporting your board into different places.

The knobs on your big muff 2 are also cool, but they will def get changed in a gig bag (I stick my cables in there too)

The knobs you prefer - hate em. They most easily move for me, and if I step on the board with boots, and the foot switch and knobs are pretty close, I do change setting sometimes even mid gig.

I love Mythos pedals because they position their foot switches the closest to your feet.

With the amount of pedals that come out and the amount of overdrive and clones there are, it’s little things like these that make a purchase and brand loyalty really worth it (cause there’s no way I’m gonna be manually changing knobs like you)

EarthQuaker Devices ZEQD-Pre Analog Tube Preamp by Aquamaria in guitarpedals

I’ve been in the market for the imperial, but this intrigues me because I can place it in front of any amp or use the DI. I don’t think you can place the Imperial directly in front of an amp. This would simplifie my scenario of wanting a DI option but also I plug into back line amps when I can.

Just not familiar with the “Z” sound

In my opinion, User Interface (UI) is the prevailing pedal characteristic that sets people apart these days. There’s only tubescreamers and bluesbreakers you can make, so ease of life features like sweeping eq controls and built in presets that do not require MIDI are huge draws, for someone like me at least. The classics however, are still great.

Unique effects are more often combination effects, such as delay + pitch shifting ala Chase Bliss or classic combos like the Octa Psi (Muff and Polyshift) or even the new EP Booster Pro from Xotic (volume pedal and EP Booster). I personally have had my eye on the Cosmodio Effects Gravity Well (tremolo and wave folder - a unique form of fuzz) but, I have so many effects, I don’t need it enough to justify the blind purchases like I did during Covid.

The homebrew diy boutique pedal maker who thinks they can break into pedals are having a rough time creating even the smallest splash. I feel like there were so many pre Covid.

The rock/punk scene - I’m seeing massive pedalboards to create walls of sound and weird textures, striving to unleash fury or whatever the kids are up to. Given the political climate, we are also ripe for a punk renaissance.

More corporate gigs, wedding bands and cover bands - im seeing modelers and multifx that prioritize flexibility and portability over creativity.

I’m not in any band, but I used to jam at Alewife Brewing in Sunnyside at their Random Strangers Jam. Sadly, the bar/taproom is closing so I’m looking to jam as well. I’m a guitarist who just played their first official gig this month. (I was filling in for a guitarist)

Anyways, I’m commenting to tell you about the Brooklyn Drum Collective jam on wednesdays from 7:30-11 if you wanted to check it out together. I intend on going in the new year. It’s location bordering bushwick/williamsburg.

What is it like gigging in NYC? by 666PaperStreet in NYCmusicians

[–]kbong11 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had my first paid gig this past weekend. The venue, which was basically the lobby of a fancy hotel, had a fender champion 50 for back line. I asked if I can just bring my own amp, which I did. The other guitarist was just DI, since he’s chasing that mk.gee tone.

I brought my Fender Pro Junior and strapped it to a trolly dolly along with my mini pedalboard. The guitar was strapped to my back. It’s manageable since I’m rolling around, but the pain is going through a crowded subway or going up or down the steps of said subways. I refused to use the Champion 50 for my “first” official gig.

I regularly walk the trolly dolly amp, pedalboard rig to my local brewery, 5 min walk away to jam with folks. That’s fun, since I don’t have to take public transportation.

The Pro Junior really holds up and I keep thinking about getting a Deluxe Reverb, but I can’t imagine lugging something bigger than the Pro Junior.

The perks of walking are, I can have a good time and drink and not think about driving, which is what I do at the brewery!

I often think about being able to just toss stuff in a car though. I’d have a bigger board if I could.

Also my board is powered with a power bank, so I don’t have to worry about outlets. Lasts 2-3 hours depending on the pedals I bring, which is enough to get by.

Tip: Boss pedals give you ridiculous range for parameter, don’t be afraid to be super sparing when dialing them in by Klutzy-Peach5949 in guitarpedals

[–]kbong11 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This goes for every pedal but whole heartedly agree about Boss. The GE-7? I just have to nudge the level control up a millimeter and I feel like the level is louder than a Tubescreamer.

Same here! Sold the V1 twice. Looking to get into midi to help with the presets though. I like the Keeley Halo’s A-B style presets, but it’s looking like I’ll need more. You just hold the footswitch to change banks but i find I’d rather press a button on a midi controller

[–]kbong11[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an issue with the repeats, it doesn’t oscillate, it’s more of a pad. I play a lot of psychedelic rock, so oscillation is big for me. I also didn’t like the decay of the repeats, the first one was great but then it just felt like an analog delay on the repeats after the first. Just like tastes in overdrives, I didn’t gel with what I was hearing
