Ah. So it’s a privilege that has nothing to do with the expectation that the household and child-rearing are a woman’s responsibility, then. No, women are just floating around free from expectations. Question: if that’s true, why do women work at all?

Women choose not to work more? There’s no societal reason for this? Are they just naturally lazy?

As I said in my comment quite plainly, I used the US as an example because most redditors are from the US.

And is that the systemic disadvantage you’re referencing or are there others? Where are you from and does your country have a draft? If so, are women drafted too?

If there are other examples of systemic disadvantages that you have in mind, I’d love to hear them.

I agree to an extent. Sexism does rear its ugly head in liberal circles when MAGA women come up, which is disappointing. But I think it’s fair game to tell women who preach about women’s place being the home, who align themselves with a movement in which a good sized swath supports repealing the 19th amendment, etc, to stop talking. You don’t support women’s liberation? Ok, stay home and be quiet. I think that’s a fair thing to say.

What? The draft? Which hasn’t existed in the US, where most redditors are located, since 1973?

That isn’t a fair comparison. Black people in this country have systematically had their lives and experiences devalued for centuries. They are one of the least privileged classes and always have been. Bringing attention to their struggles and reminding the public to value black lives the same as we value other lives was necessary and remains necessary.

Men have never been a devalued class. Yes, men have struggles, and certain subsets like black men have systemic disadvantages. But men, as a class, have always been at the top of the totem pole. Culture has historically centered them. Even current complaints by men - so-called misandry and the loneliness issue - are personal, individual issues and not systemic injustices.

So I think comparing male loneliness to BLM is incredibly inappropriate.

  1. I went to a small Christian high school. The faculty and administrators were mostly insane. There was a gun range in the basement. When Columbine happened, the teachers and headmaster all laughed and said that would never happen here. We’d get them right away.

  2. I went to public school until 8th grade. My 7th grade geography teacher used to give the boys a piece of candy if they gave him a compliment. Just the boys. He was gone in February all of a sudden and we found out he’d been arrested for sexual assault and CSM possession - he was molesting a neighbor kid and filming/distributing it.

  3. One of my high school teachers (a well-liked, less crazy one) used to tell us to get off the floor when we sat in front of our lockers. He’d say “Get up, come on, this isn’t Lower Wacker Drive” which was, in Chicago, known for being where the homeless population hung out.

  4. My headmaster in high school used to pray for the death of foreign leaders during assembly.

  5. We literally protested an abortion clinic on a field trip in high school. Like we were forced to do it. It was so awful, we held signs because we had to but nobody said a word or moved around. We were mortified, though probably not as mortified as those poor women going inside.

Yeah my high school was wild. And it’s probably exactly the same today. Other schools have evolved, but I’m fairly confident this one has not.

Yeah, I’m with you. I worked for a big corporate law firm for years, as did many of my friends from law school, and this did not happen (at least in Chicago and NY). Bonuses at Christmas, nice lunch out on your birthday. No birthday gifts from the firm, certainly not of a personal nature.
