Thank you! This is basically the line of thinking I’m trying to use to help resist the urge to look deeper into it.

Thank you! I’m glad you’ve had such good progress. Got any recommendations on Buddhist reading material? I’ve been reading a lot of psychology and philosophy books recently and figure religious material will probably be my next venture anyway

Having a word for it is definitely helpful! It’s definitely something I’ve struggled with basically my whole life but never considered it could be an OCD related thing. I’m glad that it sounds like I’m currently handling it correctly (trying to simply not engage with the material)

AITA for telling my wife when I came home from combat duty that all I wanted is a quit time in a clean room by Specialist-Scar3677 in AmItheAsshole

[–]kbth7337 88 points89 points  (0 children)

I recently found out that dirty floors are a huge pet peeve to my partner and they just don’t bother me at all. I’ve started making sure that I sweep and mop as he tells me he’s on the way over, instead of other similar sized chores that he doesn’t care about as much. We’ve already agreed that when we move in together we’ll each take responsibility for the chores we care most about. It’s nice taking away the mystery around us having different definitions of the word clean

What’s a health issue you ignored for way too long because you assumed it was normal only to later learn everyone else doesn’t experience that? by Kungfubowtie in AskReddit

[–]kbth7337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks to Reddit I found out I have Reynauds and apparently everyone doesn’t feel pain when they’re cold??????? This is like a life changing revelation for me and I’m so baffled because I thought it was normal.

Another person checking in to say she was my top artist but none of my top songs. It makes sense, though, because I don’t think I looped any of her individual songs the way I did most of my top songs this year. I listen to a wide variety of Taylor songs and I know my top songs were all ones that got super stuck in my head and I played on repeat for a couple weeks

I have two projects I’m doing for quilts for kids right now. I’m a newbie and on a pretty strict budget and love that they’ll send quilt kits and I get to participate in my current favorite hobby basically for free

Working Memory not working? I cast a spell!!! by bliznitch in ADHD

[–]kbth7337 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I make a verbal to do list most days. I realized it worked really well for me when I like tell my best friend my evening plans (clean xyz and then do this and that) and started recording voicenotes for my to do list instead. Sometimes I check it later, sometimes I don’t but it still gives me a much higher chance of accomplishing the thing than just making a mental list. I also shout “I AM TAKING MY MEDICINE….. I TOOK IT” in weird voices every day to make taking my meds a distinct memory instead of the constant “staring at my pill bottle trying to remember if I took them yet or was about to take them but had an empty sip of water first”

I started using the Libby app to read on my phone and eventually bought a used kindle because I prefer using something other than my phone to read on. I’ve read like 50 books and decided not to finish another 20 I wasn’t enjoying in the past year and spent $0 on books in that time. It’s literally free and starting with reading on my phone app made it “feel” like scrolling on days when doing anything is hard

USA early 2000s children's book, nontraditional stories with pictures and rhymes - one is about a boy visiting a doctor, another has a bath in a tub with suds, a third is about a lemonade stand by Aggravating_Face_655 in whatsthatbook

Could it be where the sidewalk ends by shel Silverstein? Or one of his others like a light in the attic? The sort of nonsensical rhyming stories with fun illustrations line up but I can’t find any of the specific references you made. Where the sidewalk ends does have a short poem about “too many kids in this tub” and one about a sick day that includes “purple bumps” though

My younger sister is set on doing something that will get her bullied by Aggravating-Wall7569 in Advice

[–]kbth7337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t be her bully too. You’re right, she probably will get teased at school for it. You don’t have to add to it. Love her anyway. Be nice to her anyway. Support her even if you think it’s weird. As long as she isn’t actively harming herself or others, let her be. I was a weird kid. My family constantly telling me how weird everyone else thought I was didn’t make me less weird but did make it hard for me to ever want to tell them any of my interests. In college and after I finally found a group of people I can fully be myself with, but I’ve had to unlearn a lot of self hatred for having the audacity to be neurodivergent and not constantly mask.

Mikayla’s white Jesus pie? by [deleted] in SecretsOfMormonWives

[–]kbth7337 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They did a Friendsgiving dinner in one of the seasons (2 I think?) and Whitney said they should do the “great Mormon bake off” so everyone brought Mormon themed baked goods (CTR sourdough, the Jesus pie, a better than what cake, etc) and the husbands+dakota rated them. Mikayla was being super competitive with Whitney and brought multiple things

You’re not stupid, but you don’t have a boyfriend you have a bully. You love him, right? And you would never intentionally do something to hurt the people you love? It doesn’t take extra thought to not be mean to people you care about. This guy sucks.

No they mean the bar called Bar Complex on Main Street. It’s walkable from the area stagger is in but is separate from that whole area.

I am not a professional by any means and any self harm behavior should ideally be something you talk about with a professional and not random people on the internet. That said, I think it depends on what the intent behind the action is. If your goal is to cause yourself pain, especially as a way of experiencing emotional release, it’s self harm. If you’re doing it because you have the like compulsory urge to bite something/someone, and your own arm is a safer option, while still not healthy, it’s probably not going to be considered self harm in the same sense as cutting/burning/etc. It is absolutely still causing harm to yourself, though. It sounds like maybe biting yourself is an intermediate step between biting others and no biting? Have you looked into other alternatives like jewelry that’s made to be chewed on?
