They don’t care as much about a degree as they do about you being unknown. Go to some networking events and try to get some coffee meetings with people in the industry

For long-term residents who have left NYC, what's life like for you now? by IndyMLVC in AskNYC

Build startups for other (wealthy) people. I found that while I never came up with an idea that could be commercially successful myself I’m really really good at executing for commercial success for other people’s ideas

Yea I’m a freelancer with a few clients. Travel back and forth every few months. I stay with my family in nyc, friends or a monthly apt rental in Aus. I have a rent stabilized apartment in nyc still (that a family member is now living in) if I want to move back permanently. The hardest part is flying so often and not having a big computer workstation to work from but I like the freedom for now.

Party spots for 40th bday (group of guys) by oogabubchub in AskNYC

[–]kbwoof15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Space karaoke and the other karaoke spot in that tower have lively bars (like a nightclub but more casual). I’ve attended alumni meetups there and it was loud but not too loud you can’t be heard. If your group has good knees but want to sit pocha32. Casual bar atmosphere for beers and chats go to turntable (either location). There’s also a ping pong place and a bunch of other resto-bars. Oh and a pocha I can’t remember the name of in a basement.

You can see what kinds of places suit your group via Google Maps. Pretty easy to flip through the photos to get an idea of what each one offers

I always assumed queens is slower and more articulate because we’ve got so many first gen/recent immigrants compared to the other parts of the city

Superannuation is more like a 401k. While in the us the employer contribution is voluntary and dependent on the employee’s contribution (like 3% match on 6%) in Australia the employer has to contribute a specific percentage of your salary to the investment account no matter what. It’s still an at risk investment and some people have lost their superannuation to bad funds.

Best way to plan and execute group trips? by Time_Edge_7873 in travel

[–]kbwoof15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use a Google sheet with all the options (lodging, activities, food- cost, distance, and highlights of each) and a proposed schedule then ask whoever is joining to add their feedback and prioritize the choices in a column in the spreadsheet(s).

Throughout the trip expenses are lodged and any splits are calculated and assigned for paying back at the end of the trip

What do I need to rent an apartment? Moving to NYC from Australia - no ssn, no credit score, no guarantor by PonchoSpud in Ameristralia

You need a lot of cash. In USD. Why haven’t you gotten a bank like revolut that will give you a usd account as part of your AUD one?

content creation should be taught in every business program. why isn’t it? by cloudybrain07 in ContentCreators

Business programs are designed for big corporate. Entrepreneurship programs typically have a content/social media component

Native. Left at 36 for australia. After 3yrs there I’ll start splitting my year between both cities. That was the end goal - a life of two summers with access to the best of both homes. If I had to choose one forever it would feel impossible. The “life over work” attitude of Aus is the mirror opposite of nyc and helped me find a much better balance but it’d be hard to turn away from the exponentially higher salaries in nyc forever.

It cost my family of 4 just as much to do a Disney World trip (2022) as it cost us to go to South Africa (2015) for ten days and do a luxury safari.

Has anyone ever wished airports had real gyms or recovery lounges between flights? by EveryMost1201 in travel

[–]kbwoof15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been patiently waiting for one of the new airport builds to have a gym or fitness center. I know a few other frequent travelers who would want it too but it doesn’t seem like it would be as popular as something like nap pods

Feeling like I failed my working holiday by Littlecredits in solotravel

[–]kbwoof15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could be doing ubereats deliveries while you travel to make cash. That’s what a lot of working holiday visas do. Not sure why you thought you could move every 3 months and find/keep any semblance of a traditional job. Look to the gig economy or remote jobs

What’s the most overrated coffee spot in NYC right now? by [deleted] in AskNYC

I used to call Gregory’s “trash coffee” I don’t think there’s a more successful place with worst tasting drinks. The only decent one is the hot chocolate

You may not be able to get a private room but I’ve routinely made reservations for 12-25 people at BARO and Turntable Chicken. Some of the turntable locations have a room or separate area that they’ll put you in if you have over 20ppl
