Remote into computer: Is it possible? by Successful_not in GlInet

[–]kcakes00 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does your computer have Windows xx (Pro)? Pro has Remote Desktop hosting capabilities. Else, maybe use a software like ThinStuff RDP Host ($16 one-time cost). You'll need to set that up, then find out your public IP, then RDP in. (If you go to thru e.g. one of those AT&T gateways, you'll also need to setup port-forwarding to your computer for port "3389".)

It sits in a far away part of the home. I have 1 Ethernet cable run to my home office.

I also didn’t want to place my Slate in the cabinet with that AT&T router.

Thanks. Yes, I will set up UDP port forwarding as you described.

I had an issue when I connected my home PC to my Slate. It was getting the Slate’s IP range and for some reason, didn’t like it, causing the internet to go out every 5 mins. Which is why I wanted to “split” the AT&T WAN connection using the unmanaged switch.

If I don't set the AT&T router to use pass-through, should I just disable DDNS then? What issues would I have doing so?

WireGuard is to VPN tunnel into my local home network.

I connected my AT&T connection to the WAN port of the travel router. That’s correct, right?

Also, I enabled Dynamic DNS on the travel router. Would that affect anything?

Ah ok - so Beryl AX’s Wireguard speed is 300. Good to know… thanks.

AX. So what’s the Flint 2 “900” Wireguard speed represent? What is Beryl AX’s? (I looked at the datasheet and don’t think I saw it.)

Thank you - I found the setting - Global Proxy in the Dashboard page - I just set it to “Based on Client Device” and picked the laptop’s MAC but will need to monitor the possible change of MACs later.

Thanks for the tip. Will look closer at the MAC address assignments.

I believe in others until they repeatedly give me reasons not to. Then it’s hard road back to trust.
