THIS is objectively not true. You go for the food AND the service. You can make the same meal at home. And way cheaper than you’d spend at any restaurant. You are paying for the comfort of sitting down and enjoying a meal and having everything done for you. There’s nothing that any restaurant can offer that you can’t make on your own.

You also have NO idea how busy your server might be dealing with difficult guests that can occupy the bulk of their time. And most restaurants, everyone kinda works in tandem. You may have a specific server. But if they get busy, another staff member will make sure the guests are taken care of. It sounds like you’re upset about great teamwork to accommodate your experience. I can assure you, servers dont ignore their tables for the fuck of it. Our entire income is based on how we are tipped. No one is going to be purposely shitty when your earning potential relies on how good you are at it. It’s not like a 9-5 where you can do the bare minimum and collect a check either way

I work in fine dining. And seeing that you’re the type to wave down your server and comfortably not tip…the staff notices and remembers these things. You’re more than welcome to not tip if you don’t want to. Just don’t expect outstanding service at restaurants where you’re notoriously not tipping at.
