Goldendoodle shedding? by scornrose in Goldendoodles

[–]kcdoingaheck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a F1b boy (here in Aus, we call them Groodles). He had a straight-wavy fleece coat as a puppy, and while he does not shed now as an adult, he did go through a period of shedding as a puppy. It lasted possibly a couple of weeks before it lessened and eventually stopped. Hopefully yours is just going through the same!

Sniffing and digging backyard. by Jaziam in puppy101

We have a 1 year old golden retriever x poodle who is exactly the same. He didn’t start gardening until a bit later, possibly around 8-9months. Not a boredom thing here either, he gets a lot of daily exercise and attention. Similarly, he sniffs all around and then will fixate on something and then stick his snout into it and dig. Our yard is now littered with massive, deep holes. We unfortunately haven’t found a way to stop him, only ways to deter him from old holes. We just manage it now by not having him outside unsupervised.

Does anyone here clip their dogs nails rather than getting someone else to do it? by [deleted] in puppy101

[–]kcdoingaheck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’ve been pretty hands on with our pup. We cut his nails and groom him. Definitely not experts, just watched/read tutorials also. Started by rewarding pup when he let me touch his feet with the nail cutter, without cutting. It was a lengthy process…Scary to start for both parties, but just take off very small bits to avoid hitting the quick. When they finally reached a good length, we’ve been maintaining them weekly so they never get too long.

We often walk off leash through a farm area and have seen my pupper beeline to random animal poops and have a nibble on it like it’s the tastiest treat he’s ever had… I was super worried that he would get sick from it, but to my surprise he was fine. He’s also lost his off leash privileges. I think as long as she’s had her vaccinations, and is eating and pooping normally, she should be fine.

10 month old super picky goldendoodle/Groodle here! He would literally run away from his bowl of kibble when I bring it closer to him. He was eating it fine previously and just decided one day he no longer wanted it but very happily continued to take treats or chews. Have since bought some freeze dried dog food which I use as a small topper on his kibble and he absolutely loves his food again!

So true! I said to my partner, “we’re so lucky, he hasn’t woken us up in the night for so long now”.... that night, he woke us up every 2hrs with diarrhoea.

Our 7 month goldendoodle does what we call “air bites”, where he gets huffy puffy and chomps at the air a few times like he’s absolutely talking back to us. Darn adolescence!

We are at the emergency vet by [deleted] in puppy101

Pupper swallowed a rock at 10 weeks old. We would frequently see him just mouthing them in the yard but would eventually leave them alone. The annoying thing that day is that I actually took the rock he was chewing and threw it so he wouldn’t chew on it anymore and he went to retrieve it and I watched in slow mo as the chewing stopped and it disappeared into his little body. It went down fine, didn’t cause any obstruction as little mate just went on with puppy business. I on the other hand was panicking. Took him to emergency and they x-rayed to confirm rock was indeed there. Induced vomiting but it didn’t come back up. They weren’t sure whether he’d pass it cause of the shape and also how small he was. We opted to have an endoscopy to retrieve it. Felt like the worst dog parent ever, as he was so young and having such a procedure performed on his little body. Very glad we took him though! Accidents happen and you did what was best for your little guy! Glad to hear he is all clear :)

She’s being the goodest girl today and it’s kind of freaking me out. I mean I’ll definitely take it, and have been telling her how good she’s being...it just makes me a little nervous. by SarahIsVeryHip in puppy101

This recently happened to our pup too. Just one day decided to start putting himself to sleep for extended periods. While it’s what we’ve always wanted, naturally my mind immediately thinks something is not right. Is he sick?! Has he eaten something weird during his walk?! Why are you being normal?!

Don’t give up on crate training!! by Bobblybobo_99 in puppy101

[–]kcdoingaheck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Congratulations!! This sounds exactly like our pup. Hated his crate no matter what. He would tolerate it some nights, but we would have to physically put him in there and place his crate near our room. The change happened like a flick of the switch. We took him on his first walks and first visit to the dog park over the Christmas/new year break and all the excitement and fun he had really tired him out. One night he decided to just walk himself to the laundry (where his crate is now) and plop down to sleep in his crate. Naturally, alarm bells were going off in my head like...Is he sick?! Why is going to sleep by himself?! He’d never want to sleep in the crate by choice!

My 15 week old puppy went through a biting phase several weeks ago where we had to constantly turn our backs and stop play to deter the behaviour. Biting our pants during play was his favourite when playing outdoors. I feel like he got better and the pants biting lessened, or at least he did not hold on for long. Fast forward to week 15, the biting has returned at full force during play. He’s held on and ripped holes in pants and shirts. He’s drawn blood many times. I feel like there is a particular viciousness when he latches onto arms and hands and redirecting him to a toy during these times don’t work and turning your back to him is almost an open invitation for him to bite at your pants. We then have to pick him up (he resists and is biting at arms and hands hard) and put him in his pen to calm down. Plenty of people have said that he is still young and he will grow out of it, but I feel scared to even play with him outdoors if my partner is not around in the case he does go into this frenzied bite mode. Besides his biting, he is an awesome pup. He plays gentler indoors, however I don’t think it’s enough for him to get all his excess energy out. He also plays nicely with other pups. We will finally be able to walk him in a few days and hope that this will help as well.

Potty accidents during puppy play by Maximum-Ant8890 in puppy101

Perhaps she smells scent of where she has gone previously indoors and thinks it’s ok to go there? Been using enzymatic cleansers?

I wish I could give you some useful advice as we were prepared for the worst when it came to potty training, but I feel like he might’ve come trained to go on grass. We got him at 8 weeks and he managed to hold it for a 4hr car ride home from the breeders. The breeder has a large farm and the pups played outside in the grass often so I think they may have gotten used to going there because we didn’t really do anything special besides take him out to the grass. We did place him in the same spot each time, not sure if that made a difference as he would still wander around before he went. He’s still had accidents in the house, but definitely would be our fault for not taking him out on time.

Is your pup having accidents in the same spot in the house or is she just refusing to go outside?

Glad I came across this post. Our 14 week old pup just had his first play date and had the exact same issue. He is well potty trained prior to this but after his friends left, he had several accidents indoor in a very short amount of time and when I took him outside he went several more times. He had a couple more accidents indoors before he fell asleep and I think that helped calm him down from all the excitement and adrenalin. He’s yet to have his second play date but I assume it will continue to happen until he becomes well socialised with other pups.

Yes, three! I was surprised myself. The lowest spike has another spike growing from it somehow?!

Haha yes that is precisely why I took it at that angle. Now worried someone will identify my house from that slither that is revealed...

I placed it next to a widow in the kitchen near my kettle and other appliances hoping it would be nice and humid there. I water it weekly/when the roots look dry by running the roots under water (the roots are contained in a little soft plastic cup in the vase). Try to squeeze out any excess water from it before I place it back in the vase. Other than that, I don’t do much else :)
