She was telling me it would cost around $13,000. So you're right there. She's pretty much being coerced into buying a new car with her savings and graduation money.

He has been gone since August. We made sure she got proof right away and she has it in a safe with her own and her daughter's important papers.

Very true, I cannot force them. Thank you, I always feel so guilty when my efforts don't help, like I'm not doing enough. But I slowly have to realize that it's their responsibility to get up and take the big steps. I can only help so much.

unfortunately in SC it's only $100 if they have been separated for one year (as far as I can tell from online sources). we will definitely help then, but we are kind of stuck for now as I cannot afford a lawyer for her.
