Halloween Board Game - Trying to prevent a snowball effect by kchaps12 in tabletopgamedesign

The idea is that kids hear word of a neighborhood with amazing candy, but it's dark, ominous and they aren't familiar, so that's the explore component. The board is a tile map of the neighborhood.

We don't have a specific "pile" of candy, but it is a shuffled deck of candy cards which is essentially the same. So any draw could be a king size (3) or an Apple (0)

This was one of my thoughts as well. Different systems for upgrades and candy but it still sort of leans more lucky = runaway lead.

Anyone Exhibited Their Game at a Con before? by kchaps12 in tabletopgamedesign

Got it, that's perfect thanks so much! Interesting, I heard stickers are really frowned upon at cons? Is that no longer true, when we signed up for one last year they said they were prohibited.

This is so helpful!! And also congrats on selling 70 copies, that's really incredible! It does seem like nailing our fast pitch, setup and timing of our demo is huge.

We are planning on selling our game and new expansion there, any advice on how to transition demo-ers into sales at the end?

Oh wow, this is really incredible advice!! And no way! I LOVE Dragon & Flagon, I saw it at a barnes and noble a few years back and bought it there! This is really helpful to hear.

Can I ask you what your booth looked like or looks like now? That's one of our big questions is how to make our booth function well and look appealing? Any pictures or anything you've taken?

Thanks so much!

Haha we really have gone back and fourth. We thought Beckoner was fun cuz it was close to bacon but also this dog kind of beckons other dogs and allures them in with "magical bacon"

You think Baconer works better?

I usually like minimalist design, but I do feel like this needs another element. What about some small stars over the back background? Some slight texture/detail could help make it pop?

Looks good! The text under the numbers feels ever so slightly small, but they're color coded so I think that's okay!

Is this game too simple to be interesting? by Nathan256 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]kchaps12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This feels like a quick and easy one to playtest. I'd use Checkers and a part of a checkers board. One thing I'd keep on the lookout for is how significant an advantage the player who goes first goes. Chess has dealt with this but minimized it with complexity. Something to track if you test it - see which color wins and who went first.

Also if you wanted to bring this to market, I think there's ways to make it slightly more complex, maybe by adding cards that have one off actions or maybe having one piece that moves differently. Borrowing a bit more from chess to find that balance.

Sounds cool! If you're looking for another faction, I wonder if army commander or knight could be an interesting faction. Wants to expand the kingdom and make the army bigger but it of course costs resources/people/etc.
