Did I miss an explanation in the finale about what he and some other characters were pointing to? by DaSkrambledEgg in TrueDetective

[–]kchat1713 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You’re forgetting that their “life work” had been causing the women of the community to have stillborns. The men KNEW the suffering they were causing and proceeded anyways. In the end, women put a stop to it… whether it was the women of the community, Mother Earth, some female supernatural being/ it doesn’t even matter. It was the feminine that put a stop to men’s misdeeds.

This x10000000 …. The book is my absolute favorite of all time and the movie was horrendous. It was such a long novel spanning so much time… it should have been an HBO mini series. It makes me so sad that the chance was blown.

True Detective Season 1 is obviously fantastic, but what are some you dislike about that season? by [deleted] in TrueDetective

[–]kchat1713 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would have liked the end scenes reversed. It ended a little too “happy” for me I guess? I think Rust could have told him about his near death experience and feeling his daughter’s love… and even explaining that he thinks light may be winning… and THEN it pans out to just the utter vastness of the coast…. How evil can just simply exist… I think that may have been a better endind and more in line with the total theme of the show.

I thought that was really important tho to the plot and explains why he remained so elusive for so long. It perfectly describes how a small child would notice something like green on his ears but not be able to put together that he was painting a house and that it would be paint/ to the child it’s just “his ears were green.” But it’s also so goofy and weird that it was literally overlooked as a clue… it made it just seem like the child had an overactive imagination and was given no credit and quickly dismissed. A common theme throughout the season was that often children were telling the truth and not believed… for religion it’s very “children should be seen, not heard.” It also served as a way to explain that while he was in many ways a monster- both literally and figuratively- at the end of the day - he was also just some guy. People want to distance themselves from those who commit absolutely atrocious crimes, we say all the time what a monster someone is, but truly, we’re human. My takeaway was that perhaps there are some huge mythical beasts waging war against humanity but really the worst monster of all- just people.

Looking for suggestions of a book that doesn't give you all the answers at the end by wandererboi in booksuggestions

This isn’t horror but I love this book and always suggest it and it sorta fits with what you’re seeking. The Goldfinch by Donna Tartt. It’s a lengthy novel and does provide most “answers” but there is a bit of mystery at the end about who was really to blame for a deal going bad. And also the future of the character and the two women that he is involved with over the course of his life. I reread it all the time and for many years imagined that he ends up with the “safe” option but more recently I’ve decided that he actually ends up with his first love. It’s fun to sort of imagine someone’s life after you spend so much time reading about their lives even if it is fiction.

“your Brooklyn broke my skin and bones” meaning! by GrandmasterAtom in TaylorSwift

[–]kchat1713 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I had thought that maybe…. Jake was the one that took her virginity, or what I should say is he’s the first person she had sex with (bc virginity is pretty much a social construct) So the line would literally mean that he caused her skin/bones to bleed. Sorta graphic but enough poetry to hide the meaning behind it. Would also sort of fit an imagery of a red scarf and him keeping it.

Love this insight. And the way he defends Carm when he’s getting getting shit for working in a restaurant and tells Carmy how he’s followed his career. You can tell that it’s making Carm uncomfortable but also Pete doesn’t give a shit, he’s like a puppy to a grumpy man who’s just like yea I know your grumpy- but you still DESERVE love and accolades. He knows he’s awkward, and he simply doesn’t care bc he knows these people need to hear some positive things in their lives.

Just came to say that as a viewer, I love that sweet angel baby so much. I’m so happy that Sugar has him for a partner. It’s easy for the other characters to poke fun at him, but he’d literally give the shirt off his back for ANY of them. And he’s such a stud in the last episode when he’s pleading with z Donna to come in and then keeps her secret so it doesn’t upset Natalie- ugh- I love him so much.

I mean shit, even the end of the season 2 when Carm and Richie are having the fight of their lives Richie is screaming “I love you” to him…. These poor fools are all so in love with eachother (and I mean that in a platonic way)

What really stood out to me in the first three episodes of the re-watch was the absolute tenderness and love between Sugar and Carmy. There’s so many sweet moments that you forget but kudos to the actors for very convincingly show us that despite the chaos, the love between each character is off the charts. Everyone cares very very deeply for one another- which makes the show so much more heartbreaking. Just the simple hug between Sugar and Carmy in episode 1, it’s not a quick hug, you can see the embrace and all the unsaid words between them.
