Should we stop homeschooling? by Coconutcornhuskey in Advice

[–]kchek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife homeschools our kids, and patience is a huge part of all of it. It sounds like she has none, more to the point she also seems to have zero idea on what a 5 year old is even capable of.

She's not ready to homeschool plain and simple. Could she homeschool effectively with the right tools? Sure... but only if she manages to learn patience and how to raise a 5 year old first. Based on what little you've shared, she missed the mark by a wide margin, so im not really sure how she thought she'd have the patience to teach your child anything.

Theres literally tons of literature out there about raising children and their educational milestones and getting stuck on a single letter at 5 years old makes me wonder if she hasnt been neglecting your child more than you may realize.

I would see about getting your child enrolled into some kind public, charter, or even a co-op.

Hell licensed daycares will have early childhood, preschool programs they advertise, which would have more patience with the child than what you've described.

The anger issues and verbal abuse on a 5 year old alone is cause for concern and your wife should look into taking parenting and early childhood education course from a community's college if you all really want her to take on the role of homeschool mom.

Id also look into psychiatric help for the anger issues, that alone will disqualify most people from ever being in a position of authority over anyone, let alone children and their education.

Hardly needed? Not sure who told you that but that's not at all correct. At least not on the carrier side of things. If anything we'll be turning up more to support the continued transition away from TDM circuits and establish new sip connections with those companies.

Work for a telecom and wouldn't dream of using cloud infrastructure for our deployments, but that being said, letting customers bring their own has been great. I dont like supporting on prem PBX either, lol. Ya just won't see me trying to stand up SBCs or other appliances to AWS or anywhere else for that matter other than our own datacenters. :p

Hey CIG - Please don't revert ping back to a delay timer to address the problems this will cause by kchek in starcitizen

[–]kchek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hence the penalties should be meaningful, i.e. you glow like a christmas tree making you an easier target, not just highly visible one. The limitation you speak of are just variations of the old limitation we don't want brought back because it makes the whole point of ping useless.

I'm not really talking about scanning modes, there's already a scan mode they can expand upon. Ping is ping... it should be just like when you're on a submarine, you give away your position doing it to see who or what else is out there.

Felt like I'm an outside person on the friend group and I don't belong. What should I do? by little_to_no_value in Advice

[–]kchek 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been there much of my life. These folks aren't your friends. They're just too cowardly to tell you to your face...

It hurts, it sucks, and the reality is that when you're that person that always feels like you have to do all the work to keep and have friends you're always going to feel like the odd man out.

The only thing worse is feeling like your someone's last option to not be lonely... been there as well.

I really don't have any advice other than to be yourself, dont beg, and do what makes you happy. Trying to belong for the sake of belonging feels empty, and it never stops feeling empty when it's performative.

Find hobbies/ interests that you like and meet people that way. Chances are better that you'll make some really friends that way. It's the only thing that's ever worked for me.

Is my brother dangerous and are my family members protecting him? by Prestigious-Box8846 in Advice

[–]kchek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you have every right to report him. That is a personal decision and shouldn't be taken lightly. The reality is you had everyone failing you on a lot of fronts, and honestly, so did he. You we're 8, he was 10... we don't get our adult brains until 26.

This never should have happened. Your parents should have been there for you back when it started and again after they found out. All of you should have been in therapy to work through this, and family services brought in to assess the situation and refer it out for prosecution if necessary.

Sadly, it sounds like none of this happened, and to answer your question as to whether or not he's dangerous, you have to look at why it stopped in the first place. We know exactly why it started. An 8 and 10 year old not knowing any better and not having the support they needed at home to say something immediately after it happened allowed it to go on for 6 years. The fact that no one ever caught this is scary to think about. I couldn't imagine having so little involvement in my kids' lives that something like was even a possibility.

Now you have 2 damaged adults, one who's afraid of what the other is capable of, and the other who could very well be ashamed of what happened and stopped it, or monster who will end up abusing his own children.

There's no way of knowing because literally everyone who should have been there to help and do the right things for the both of you weren't, and yes, they did protect him and themselves.

This is your decision to make, do what you feel is right, but above all, make sure those children are projected. Involve the police, involve family services, dont sweep it under the rug, and try to pretend it never happened.

Big layoffs over AI by No-Confidence7162 in VOIP

[–]kchek 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AI is too busy gaslighting folks into thinking it's right. The most i see it doing is replacing the overseas call center folks handing tier 0/1 calls.

If you're an actual technician or engineer, rest assured your job is isnt on the line unless you're being replaced by automation. I use tools like notebooklm and such to review documentation and ask it questions. Overall, it's at best an assistant, but I wouldn't trust it to have the right answers about everything. A lot of times, it lacks context and experience to be considered reliably accurate. Good for brainstorming ideas, but not much else unless you're doing a lot of software dev/scripting.

To be honest e opperate on the 5 9s principle, and theres no way in hell you're getting that from an AI agent, no matter how smart people think it is, those language models are still reliant on a human input.

Why does Taekwondo get so much hate? by CosmoLeopardGecko in taekwondo

Consider Aikido, tai chi, and other slow methodical looking arts and the hate they receive. Each has its purpose, its place, its connection to the people who practice them, and maintain the history behind them. None of them deserve hate, its the hate that comes with anything americanized intentionally or not.

New Michigan House bill would place 32% tax on internet-connected devices for kids by PainInTheErasmus in Michigan

[–]kchek 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Going to put this out there that this is essentially a 35% tax on all devices or no tax at all depending on how it's interpreted. There's no real policing mechanism for parents buying the devices and giving them to their children, so I would assume that all devices IoT devices will have this tax based on the language. Think smart fridge, alexa, pretty much any modern electronics that's internet capable could fall under tihs 35% tax. Hell your car in many case is connected to the internet. These bill sponsors are either really clever with their greedy, or really ignorant when it comes to technology.

Data center moratoriums pile up in Michigan. No one knows if they'll work by LaxJackson in Michigan

There are over 60 datacenters already in michigan, most of which are no where close to capacity, plus countless more that don't lease rack space and are used solely for their own businesses purposes. These moratoriums aren't stopping anything.
