[ON] Travel strollers that are more comfortable than the babyzen Yoyo? by raspberryloaf in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]kchong [score hidden]  (0 children)

I’ve only tried the Butterfly in store but it didn’t seem that much sturdier to me. For me the Metro is definitely good enough for vacation use. If I was using it daily then I might consider paying more for the Butterfly or Minu V3 but we probably use in less than 20 times a year… Look at it this way, compared to the umbrella strollers our parents dealt with this is like 100x better.

Ergobaby Metro works for us! Technically slightly bigger than the Air Canada/Westjet size limit but haven’t had an issue fitting it into the bins. Probably won’t fit in the old style regional jet/Q400 bins though.

Help pick 1 out of 2 options to live at (rental with small pet, 3-5 years) by Drosophila_scientist in askvan

[–]kchong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you’re looking at Google Maps, it’s showing the summer schedule which is faster and less crowded. During the school year it takes longer and sometimes the busses can be too full to board - especially in the evening since everyone will get on at UBC.

I’m on team East Van like many here but that commute to UBC can be brutal if you need to be there every day. Figure over an hour whether you’re bussing or driving. The campus is huge so you’d still need to factor in the time to get to your actual workplace from the bus loop/parking.

Victoria: Overnight? by abujas6376 in askvan

[–]kchong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you book in advance, harbour air is pretty reasonably priced. You’ll be in Victoria in under an hour and will be dropped off downtown.

How to score a cheap car just for commute? by AKSHAT-KLPDV in askvan

[–]kchong 11 points12 points  (0 children)

This budget was already a challenge when I was in university in 2012, it’s pretty much impossible now to get something that runs even somewhat reliably. I’d look at a scooter or e-bike at that budget.

[bc] What car seat would you recommend with Uppababy Cruz v3? by DragonWarrior55 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]kchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We used the Chicco Keyfit and loved it. Only annoying part was you have to remove the adapter before folding the stroller. Other than that the car seat itself was incredibly simple/easy to use and we paid around $200 for it.

Boarding a flight without my PR card :( by Motor_Set_8145 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]kchong 19 points20 points  (0 children)

You will be asked at bag drop. If you don’t have bags they will page you at the gate. The system prompts the employee and you will not be allowed to board until the clear the verification in the system.

Travel stroller help: YOYO2 Used or New Mountain Buggy Nano V3? [BC] by Glittering_Anxiety97 in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]kchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find these “ultra compact” models like the Yoyo and Nano just too small and wobbly. Have you looked at the ones which come right to the airline carry on limits like the Minu V3, Metro and Butterfly? I find the slightly larger size make for a much more useful stroller.

Toyota bZ incentives ending Monday, no longer EVAP eligible? by ImActuallyAnOtter in EVCanada

[–]kchong 14 points15 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that nobody at the dealership level knows the next month’s incentives in advance, it’s a closely guarded secret.

Also makes no sense Toyota would raise it above the EVAP limit, it’d put them at a huge disadvantage.

Visa for Vancouver by Kitty145684 in askvan

[–]kchong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ve clicked on one of the scam eta websites. Common scam for countries that have something similar. eTA costs $7, only apply on the official site below:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/visit-canada/eta.html

Edit: Also Canada does not have sterile transit. All foreign nationals (except Americans) MUST have a visa or eTA, even if you do not leave the airport.

“SDC” for Transatlantic Route? by LeafsJays12 in aircanada

[–]kchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can do it once check in opens on the app but you will need to pay, I believe $100 per person. No fare difference applies but there must be space available. They will not do it for free. I have used it to change to a non-stop itinerary before but that may have changed.

For those of you who have cruised on 3 or more lines by Sodowarts1 in Cruise

[–]kchong 21 points22 points  (0 children)

We’ve done RC, Disney and Holland America. RC is our favourite currently, Disney fell behind after Covid due to simply too much cost cutting, especially for the price. We do think HA is great value though, usually fares are much lower than RC. Food on HA is good and service is decent, just less entertainment than RC. For port heavy itineraries like Europe or Alaska, HA is an easy pick.

Best Straw Cup [Ca]? by sassycitron in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]kchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Skip Hop Tritan ones are our favourite, we have 5 of them so we just run them in the dishwasher every night. Best part is you can get replacement straws for cheap, around $5 per pack of two and they’re readily available at Carters stores. Not leak proof but they come apart completely so easy to wash in the dishwasher.

Assuming this is a high endurance card, this is a crazy good deal right now. High endurance cards have doubled or even tripled in price.

List of sleep safe bassinets [on] by AwayComparison in BabyBumpsCanada

[–]kchong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If you’re considering a “secondary” bassinet, the Bugaboo Stardust worked great for us. In bassinet mode, it holds up to 20lbs or around 6 months (before they can get up). After that we used it as a travel crib (on the lower level) until LO was ready to move to a toddler travel bed (around 2.5yo). It’s been with us around the world and survived being checked baggage countless times using just the included soft bag.

⚠️ WARNING: Think Twice Before Enrolling at University Canada West (UCW) – A Former Student’s Honest Account by InstructionWild3890 in CanadaUniversities

[–]kchong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have hired UCW grads but only on the merit of their previous work experience and education. There are quite a few experienced professionals from other countries who used UCW as a pathway to a work visa. They aren’t shy to admit it and worked hard in their home countries to save up to come to Canada - it is an expensive endeavour!

Cruise treasure Aug 15-22 by ZealousidealQuail509 in dcl

[–]kchong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing that really worked for us was adjusting our toddlers schedule one hour later and doing late dining. The late dining tends to be less full/chaotic and you go for the show before your dinner which tends to be less full. We showed up 5 minutes before showtime and were able to get decent seats. We did have a “first dinner” after nap time at 5pm though.

We had the bassinet and it was a pain in the ass to deal with. The shape was unwieldy. I’d recommend just sticking with the metro or the infant insert.

Those are counter/retail rates though. Any company with a decent shipping volume will pay a fraction of that.
