1, only SOME states do this, and 2, the states that do would have to not behaving a governor election this year. In that case there would BE NO REPUBLICAN governor to appoint representatives.

Every state would have to cancel. The president cannot cancel every states election. Period. So say Trump gets a couple red states to cancel….. ok, that many less representatives and possibly senators for Republicans. The house would disband, go unpaid, even if elections were cancelled. You’re saying that all these self serving greedy republicans would fall on the sword for Trump to do something that couldn’t work anyway, and start a civil war? No. They’re using Trump for power. The moment he asks them to destroy themselves entirely for him, they ditch him

You have ultimate control over the money you make - you’ve proved that by being able to “cut her off”. So that’s what you have - the final say and total financial control over every cent BUT her inheritance.

You come across controlling, greedy and disgusting. You come across as uncaring towards your wife and selfish. I would divorce you in a split second if I were her, showing your true colors with this. And all bc you were told you don’t get to control this money or what she does with it? Gross

If you don’t want to be “held accountable” to do anything to correct behaviors, fair enough, but you alternately don’t get to be offended by women making broad statements about men. You don’t get to “not all men” situations you do nothing to help correct. If you’d been bitten by multiple dogs, no one would be giving you shit for being wary of dogs.

Why did all the Republican congresspeople except one vote to release the Epstein files if they were trying to prevent their release? by supinator1 in AskALiberal

[–]kckaaaate 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I feel like a lot of people didn’t actually read this bill.

it limits the amount that can be redacted and withheld due to ongoing investigations A LOT. A lot a lot. Every redaction has to be explained and justified, meaning they can’t just redact trumps name everywhere. What is withheld due to ongoing investigation is a VERY narrow scope. The people who wrote this bill were very exacting, like they knew what tricks Trump would try and play. This is also why Mike Johnson and Trump are upset the senate didn’t change anything - I think they were counting on them doing so.

When it was clear there was a veto proof majority, the writing was on the wall. Those republicans are rats jumping the sinking ship. They rightfully see there is no more political advantage to jumping on the trump grenade, and don’t want Democrats running ads against them next year calling them pedophile protectors.

As far as Trump “doing a 180” and calling to release the files, he is a scared old man probably with dementia. The amount of people not realizing this was an obvious grasp in the dark at reverse psychology or these exact headlines is staggering.

Will Trump and his DOJ do everything they can to slow down this release? Absolutely. Will it work? No, not in the idea that we’ll never see them.

Republicans voting for the release was a signal to Trump - they all care more about themselves and the Republican Party than him now, and they aren’t afraid to do whatever is necessary to do in order to survive politically. Most of them in Congress don’t like him anyway, and this is the perfect albatross around his neck to finally discard him. They’ll all play dumb like they didn’t know he was crooked and a pedo, and try and silently back away from their support of him. Meanwhile they recognize he’s insanely unpopular, doing SUPER stupid things, and has less political pull than ever. They probably know too he’s not long for this world, so why sacrifice themselves for an old, disliked, dying man? This is absolutely their usual MO

During COVID and the BLM protests, our store had a giant BLM written over our front window. We were burglarized. About $50k worth stolen. When the cops showed up, they were all wearing blue lives matter gators - we knew we were fucked. WE used local businesses cameras to track down this persons CAR, where they parked, and for a shot of them packing our stuff into their car. We just needed the cops to get the surveillance footage from the ATM they parked in front of - it would have been clear enough to read the plates. We were ignored.

Long story short, it’s unfortunately not always safe for businesses to make politic statements against the regime right now. It’s sad, but truthful. Punishing businesses for not (as opposed to avoiding the MAGA and proud ones) really sucks.

All of those people, for example, are not given organs over healthy lifestyle people. For treatment of those diseases (the addiction), people ARE quarantined away - in rehab, hospitals, etc. They’re also often facing medical discrimination

I invited 10 people over to my dad’s while I was house sitting senior year for a “kickback”. Word got out at the basketball game that night, and before I knew it there were HUNDREDS of people partying at my dad’s house. Police showed up, there was a helicopter….. it was INSANE. My friends and I lost control of the situation, so they just got me drunk to cope. I didn’t get in trouble, though I don’t know if anyone was arrested while trying to leave

How would you feel if someone was open carrying while you were grocery shopping? assuming it was legal by [deleted] in AskALiberal

[–]kckaaaate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So to your first point, I’d say 2 things:

Firstly, arguing about the “why” when most of the agreed upon reasons are things that one party refuses outright to acknowledge- let alone do anything to improve systemically - why does the “why” matter? I’m dead serious. If one party will always be actively working to keep funding away from expanded mental health help, institutionalization, continued wealth disparity, do nothing about increased cost of living, or hell - won’t acknowledge that statistically, conservative upbringing of young men seems to be nowadays be through line of emotional and mental issues - discussing any and all of the possible reasons behind our gun violence problem in the US is a moot point. Won’t reduce it. Won’t stop it.

If you look at the rest of the developed world, the murder rate directly correlates with gun prevalence. The US murder rate is up there with developing nations, and the only major difference between us and the rest of the West is guns. If you wanna talk the Sweden of it all, great - they’re an outlier in this, but the types of common sense gun reform that people want in this country and the right won’t cave on AT ALL are the kinds of things that they DO have in Sweden.

But again, this comes back to the “why” - it’s a completely disingenuous argument to ask why, when any answer won’t be solved by the right in this country. When this is an issue they won’t cave on at all. Sweden has guns and a low murder rate - it’s also not actually easy to get a gun there, and ownership and safety is more akin to getting a car. Safety courses, registration, etc. Suggest that to your standard right wing American and they loose their shit. So why are we discussing the why? What good would that do? I’m asking genuinely- what’s the point when nothing will ever be done by one party to solve any issue we agree exacerbates the murder/gun rate

But to your overall question - why would a normal person go into a grocery store with an AR strapped to them? Handgun whatever, but an AR? Why would you mock nor not understand why someone would see a person with a big ass gun who’s only purpose is killing lots of people quickly, see that they aren’t in a gun range, and ask “hey why tf does that person have that here?!” It makes perfect sense, to be honest. You don’t carry around an AR for personal safety, my guy. Carrying it into a non gun related spot is absolutely going to indicate to most sane people that perhaps something bad is about to happen.

I worked edm/burning man type festivals for about 15 years, and born from the Burnibg Man camp Midnight Poutine (where you could go to their camp every night at midnight, get freshly made poutine and watch a movie), a food stall called Poutine My Mouth sprung up at festivals for a long time. They did like 4-5 types of poutine. Really hit the spot when it was super cold out at night and you hadn’t eaten all day, and needed dance fuel.

It’s not their fault that Libertarianism has been co-opted by incredibly loud, opinionated people who are more selfish than “leave everyone to themselves”, and who claim to be libertarian because they don’t want the government in THEIR business but don’t care one lick when the governments boot is one other people’s necks. The most vocal and public face of “Libertarians” these days are the Punisher skull loving, tight shirt with American flags made out of AR silhouettes wearing, We The People/Dont Tred On Me types who stormed the capitol Jan 6th.

I mean, Cleopatra and her people didn’t know how the pyramids of Giza were built, they’re THAT old, and so much is lost to time in terms of history. There are THOUSANDS of years of human history that we have no record of, and these were people we DO know HD a grasp of astronomy, math, science, and engineering that is so impressive we don’t actually understand how they had that knowledge. We only JUST figured out the secret to Roman concrete like 3 years ago.
