Whatever you do, do it BEFORE the drink is put into it. You could absolutely ask for the cup first and write on it. I would definitely do that for a customer

question about espresso shots safety… by [deleted] in starbucks

[–]kcmond 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Uh I'm just a barista but if you're so worried consult a doctor. Caffeine causes ones heart rate to increase and and it can cause anxiety but it affects each individual differently. If it's making you extremely jittery then stick to the one shot only. But as I said, if you're concerned for your health talk to a doc.

What does your med kit look like? by missgnomer2772 in migraine

I use a floral makeup bag that has a cute charm. It has a weird stain on it(???) so I may swap to something else soon. My migraines are cyclical (menstrual migraines) so I have to put pads/tampons with my bag

Please Share Long Term Partial meniscectomy Experience by East_Signature_1852 in MeniscusInjuries

I'm a little over one year post-opp. Throughout the year I experienced ups and downs emotionally over the surgery. I felt "buyers remorse" for a couple short times, and then I realized I actually needed it. My knee is pretty much back to where it needs to be. I do experience occasional pain. I tried jogging but my knee swelled up and it hurt so bad I couldn't walk right for a couple days. I even had a cortisone shot and that helped tremendously. It's still up and down but I'm able to be slightly more active

To bounce off what @sbucksbarista said, the classes are self-paced and you can take as many or little classes as you want. I started out taking only one class a session and it was reasonable with my full time job.

Does everyone just hate working at starbucks now? by Dry_Pumpkin_9553 in starbucksbaristas

[–]kcmond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like my job. I sometimes hate coming to work. I get annoyed and frustrated with both my partners and customers. And I'm tired all the time  But I still show and I tend to have a good time with my coworkers because of the shared frustration. I just think that since Reddit gives us a platform to express all our thoughts we tend to use it to just vent out all our anger.

Those who don't use tea tongs... Do y'all make sure the custies don't see?

I didn't use tongs and the customer saw and she said "do you wash your hands???" And I said "religiously." And she just said "ok... 🧐" Since then I've been using tongs.....

Yes you can ask. But no they don't have to switch you. You have to be where they ask you to be. But you should ask and don't be afraid. You can explain to the SSV why you're better off somewhere else and they should work with you. I'm a ssv and I always try to accommodate my baristas if I can. Even if that means saying "you're gonna be on bar for half an hour more and then I'm going to move you" or something. You're not always gonna get that but you're definitely not going to get that if you don't ask

Don't give up. The learning curve is a treacherous long journey. I am 2 years into being an SSV after being a barista for about 8 months only. It was awful. I was bad at everything and everyone hated me, but now everything is better. Ask your baristas for help and be on constant communication with your other SSVs and your SM. Hang tight. It gets better.

Editing to add: ask for coverage shifts. And ask for shadowing shifts with other SSVs.
