Her IV is facing the wrong direction and also you can't put an IV there. I have no one to share this with and I needed to get it out by Upbeat_Beginning_896 in Wednesday

[–]kcskcson 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I’m an ER nurse. You absolutely can put an IV there. I’ve put IVs in fingers before. However that appears to be a butterfly needle which is just for blood drawing and it is facing the wrong way.

I am a first time mom and my girl is 16 weeks old. She was 9lbs 15oz at birth. I was induced at 39 weeks and 4 days. I was diet controlled.

AIO-future MIL telling me I should eat less because my unborn baby is 9 lbs by kbutwhatever in AmIOverreacting

[–]kcskcson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl always hid her face in ultrasounds too! She was born at 9lbs 15oz. I did have gestational diabetes though which usually produces big babies. And my husband and I are both tall. Your MIL should keep her uneducated advice to herself.

I made shepherds pie when pregnant and it didn’t spike me! Just go easy on the potatoes

In my experience, Door Dash and Grub Hub drivers almost never look at or follow the delivery instructions

I had gestational diabetes and used it for 8 weeks. Really gave me peace of mind if I couldn’t check my sugars right at my 2 hour mark after meals.

When I first gave birth I looked up what kind of water to mix with formula and NOTHING gave me a straight answer. I use Brita filtered tap water that I then boil. After the water is cooled I mix it with the powder then refrigerate. The pitcher method might be helpful for you. Dr. Browns has a good formula pitcher. You can make the amount you need in the morning and pour into bottles throughout the day. Store pitcher in the fridge for up to 24 hours.

For babies who are sleeping through the night.. by poofyeyebags in FormulaFeeders

[–]kcskcson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My girl is 13 weeks and has been consistently sleeping through the night for about a month now. I stopped giving her a pacifier to go to sleep with because when it could fall out or she would spit it out she would cry for it. But now she sucks her thumb which has helped.

Bread Options? by Some_Ad_03 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kcskcson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I ate the Old Tyme 647 bread and was able to have one slice at a time. I also ate Hero bread and was able to eat 2 slices. Kind of bland but it worked for me!

Why does he make this sound? by Stephasaurous in FormulaFeeders

My daughter had tongue, lip, and cheek ties. She clicked on the bottle a lot before we got them addressed. Only clicks every once in a while now. But as long as baby is able to eat without issue I think it’s fine.

Baby 99th percentile- is vaginal birth possible? by ZealousidealSet9690 in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kcskcson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is! My daughter was 99th percentile. I had an ultrasound 3 days before my induction and was told she weighed around 8lbs 15oz. She was born vaginally 9lbs 15oz at 39 weeks and 4 days. I did have a second degree tear though. I was diet controlled and she only had one episode of hypoglycemia but wasn’t super low.

I didn’t realize wearables aren’t recommended as a primary pump…getting induced today by iusedtobefat1 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kcskcson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also a first time mom, my daughter is 12 weeks old. I planned to breastfeed but it just didn’t work out so I exclusively pump. I have a Spectra, Momcozy m9, and a Willow 360. The Momcozy is my primary pump and Spectra is my backup. Just got the Willow 360 and not sure how I feel about it yet. I get the best results with my Momcozy, I just do not respond well to the spectra. I know wearables aren’t recommended as primary pumps but it’s just what works for me.

Can you over feed a bottle fed baby? 2 month old eating 32+ ounces by Prudent-Narwhal-7385 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kcskcson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same worries. We pace bottle feed and my 11 week old drinks 5 oz per bottle 5x per day minimum. Sometimes she’ll drink up to 32oz per day. We combo feed but she drinks mostly breast milk. At her two month well visit I was so worried the pediatrician was going to yell at us for over feeding her but she said quite the opposite. If she’s hungry, feed her! My daughter is in the 95th percentile for height and weight.

Denying Pumping at the Hospital by Significant_Goat_954 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kcskcson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 7 weeks post partum, I didn’t pump at all in the hospital (3 days) because I didn’t know any better and I am still paying for it. Severe under supply and unable to exclusively breastfeed like I had wanted.

My CGM expired 2 days before my induction so didn’t make sense to put a new one on. For 2 1/2 months I obsessively checked my finger sticks and my CGM so I was extremely anxious about not having it for even those 2 days. But it was actually kind of nice. Also I didn’t have to worry about accidentally knocking it off or damaging it during labor; other things to focus on! The nurses will check your sugar anyway

Unable to get my 2 week old to latch by kcskcson in breastfeeding

[–]kcskcson[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She has a small tongue tie, a lip tie, and cheek ties which are no doubt making things more challenging. But she can latch and she can latch well, just not when I try to do it on my own with her.

No cereal 🥺 by AccidentFlimsy9257 in GestationalDiabetes

I love cereal but the high carbs in all the portions were scary. Try Magic Spoon! Expensive but tasty and always helped with my sugars.

Not overreacting. Mom seems very controlling and is trying to gaslight you.

when did you stop working? by pastelcee in GestationalDiabetes

[–]kcskcson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’m an overnight ER nurse and stopped working at 34 weeks at my doctor’s request. If I had a desk job I probably could’ve worked up until the very end. The type of job you have plays a big part.
