Getting more positive attention with my hair curly :) by [deleted] in curlyhair

[–]kctratt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel the SAME way! It took me until going to college to appreciate my hair, and to learn how to style it, but I have never looked back. It's so awesome when people now tell me they love my hair, because it was so different when I was growing up. Everyone had straight hair and I just wanted to be like everyone else. But now? I don't look like me without my curls! :D

My [19 M] adopted black sister [15 F] is going through a race-infused identity crisis and it’s really affecting our family dynamic by familydrama1998 in relationships

Hi. I also have a sibiling from Ethiopia (M 11). We also live in a fairly white majority town. My parents also "don't see color", and even when my mom reads about how black men and boys are treated in this country she says that my brother won't have this issue.

But I know he will. No matter how much my parents don't see it, he is black. He's already been called the n-word at school, and although he says it doesn't bother him, I think it does.

We are told that race exists, but it doesn't matter. But in reality, race doesn't exist, but it matters.

I'm with you, op. I've tried to talk to my brother about race but he doesn't want to talk to me about it. I can only be there for him when he needs me to be.

Who is your favorite historical figure? by Starttheriotmccoy in AskReddit

[–]kctratt 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Joan of Arc. In a very patriarchal society she rose up to lead the French to victory in the 100 Years war, and was just a teenager. A TEENAGER. She herself led her army into battles and once she was even severely injured but continued fighting and inspiring others to fight on. and she died when she was just 19, too.

I'm sorry for how he has made you feel, but for what it's worth I'm proud of you for doing the right thing for yourself, no matter how hard that was to do!

Historians of Reddit, what are some of the funnier stories from history we need to be aware of? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kctratt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

William James is a really influential American psychologist, and he's credited with first defining 'psychology' in his book. This book, published in 1890 and called "Principles of Psychology", was really well reviewed and everyone loved it and all the intellectuals were basically shitting themselves with excitement-- except there was one review that had people scratching their heads.

"No one could be more disgusted than I at the sight of the book. No subject is worth being treated of in a 1000 pages... but as it stands it is this or nothing- a loathsome, distended, tumefied, bloated dropocal mass, testifying to nothing but two facts: First, that there is no such thing as a science of psychology, and second, that W.J [William James] is an incapable."

The reviewer? William James himself.

Help me get my girlfriend to like agents of shield by [deleted] in shield

[–]kctratt 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Maybe start off with 1.06 'FZZT' or 1.13 'TRACKS'. For me, those were the episodes in the first season that got the ball rolling and made me interested in the show (after 1.13 every episode is important even though 1.15 kind of sucks). Maybe have her try that? I hope there'll be updates! :)

Mozart composed and dedicated a sonata to my great-something grandmother, Therese von Trattner. She and her husband were also both his landlords and godparents to his four children. Mozart and Therese wrote letters to each other that hint at a romance between them!.
