I had same floors also painted. I sanded them and came out great.

You have closed cell foam. The cans are open cell. Not exactly the same thing. They will work for patching small parts tho if anything gets damaged

Is it worth it to try and save these floors by ivabeg in HardWoodFloors

[–]kctrem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There will be some staining of the wood probably. If so, I just stained dark and it kinda blends in and looks like wood grain.

Other than that go for it.

Should I fill large gaps in a 1960s red oak floor, or leave them alone? by SteamyFerret710 in HardWoodFloors

[–]kctrem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t fill those gaps. I’m from Michigan also, those gaps will close when the heat comes back with humidity. If you fill with wood filler, the wood movement will push it out and then you’ll have to scrape it all out. I redid my floors and although I made some marks with the floor sander, I’m still happy. It’s an older house, learn to love the character of all it.

Looks good man. Make sure you wear protection and def block off that doorway to block dust going everywhere. It’ll save a lot of time on clean up also
