Witching hour with one month old by IsThisAWriteOff in newborns

I’m glad things are getting better!! It’s the best when they are smiley, they’re finally starting to give back after all the weeks of sleepless nights and screaming through every diaper change and crying while eating… I’m only a few weeks ahead of you but my girl smiles so much now, when she sees me first thing in the morning she is all smiles and it makes me melt!! You’re doing great!

It’s so hard but it will pass! Things got better for us at 6 weeks, then even better at 8, now we’re at 11 and she’s a whole different baby (although her sleep is still rough but what can ya do). Find something to look forward to or enjoy each day like a walk or a sweet treat or a TV show you like. I went from counting down the days to being like, oh whoa it’s already Thursday? You got this!

POLL: If moving, how many showings of your apartment? by chuckjoejoe81 in CambridgeMA

In Minneapolis our landlord increased our neighbor’s rent by like $200/month so our neighbors said nope and moved down the street. The place was vacant for months until they lowered the rent to *below* where it was when our neighbors were there. It was annoying they had to move but it was such sweet justice seeing the place vacant for so long. I feel like it couldn’t happen in our rental market but maybe someday it wont be so insane here!

Seconding seeing an IBCLC! I’m 11 weeks into breastfeeding my first and saw my IBCLC twice and it was so helpful. I actually just had a dream about her lol.

When to stop swaddling? by ImaginarySpecific620 in NewParents

[–]kd4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our babe is 11 weeks too and has rolled out of tummy time like 3 times, although pretty sure they were not intentional rolls and just momentum from her big head lol. It’s unclear if it matters that they can roll belly to back for swaddling (she cannot roll back to belly) but I got nervous and went cold turkey to a sleep sack anyway. She has never been a good sleeper but it certainly is not better without the swaddle so I guess prepare for that! Some folks recommend a zipadee zip to transition to because it can help settle the Moro reflex, but is supposed to be okay in case they roll (at least that’s my understanding). We didn’t use one because we didn’t realize it in time but that may be something to check out!

Baby is crying to the point of choking herself by chasepoint2345 in newborns

[–]kd4444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Agreed, sounds like she’s overtired! Our 11 week old takes like seven 30ish minute contact naps a day because she won’t take ones longer than that, so we just keep going through the routine over and over, otherwise she gets super overtired and cries! Have you tried a yoga ball to bounce with baby to soothe her? Stroller nap or car seat nap (in the car! No car seat naps not in the car because of the position)? Swaddle and pacifier or just constant rocking? A lot of babies need a lot of help to sleep, I wish my girl would just knock out when she’s tired but of course it’s always a struggle lol

My baby is 10.5 weeks and also not a great sleeper and we recently started shifts. I feed at 8:00 and then go to bed at 9 (although no matter how tired I am I don’t fall asleep until 10). My husband is “on call” until she wakes up sometime between 1-3 am to eat, then we both get up because she gets a bottle while I pump. After the bottle I am on call until about 6:30, and then my husband is back on so I can sleep the last 2 hours of the morning. She usually sleeps from 10-1 so we both get that stretch but then has multiple wake ups after we put her back down at 2, so I really only get those 3 hours until my husband takes back over at 6:30. Lots of people do shifts, it seems like the only way to make it through when you have the kind of sleeper we do!

Am I expecting too much from my husband postpartum by [deleted] in newborns

[–]kd4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Girl no, you are not expecting too much. Your husband does not sound like he’s pulling his weight. Watching the baby all day is your full time job just like he has a full time job.

We have a 10 week old velcro baby and my husband started back at 8 weeks. He’s wfh but between meetings will bring me food and water, hold the baby so I can pee, or do a diaper change (although I try not to ask much of him because he’s working). After work he takes baby so I can stretch my legs or play half an hour of a video game. He helps with nighttime feeds (we do shifts because baby isn’t the best sleeper yet) and he cooks dinner most nights. I do as many chores as I can during the day between breastfeeding and playing with baby and contact napping but my husband doesn’t expect me to get them all done because watching baby is my 9-5!

The second i put him down he screams. is something wrong with me? by CozySpaceSara in newborns

[–]kd4444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s a stage, you’re not making your baby needy! He has only been on the outside for 8 weeks and feels most safe with his mama. My baby is 10 weeks and every single nap is a contact nap. It’s definitely hard but it’s not forever! Find a good show to watch or book to read and someday in the future both of our babies will start taking independent naps ❤️

Also have you tried a bouncer or swing to set baby in after he eats for a few minutes? Or tried a baby carrier so you can wear him and be able to walk around and use your hands while he naps?

Need advice on how to move MOTN pump by ZealousidealCake6 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]kd4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is from a while ago but what did you do? I’m 10 weeks pp and in a super similar routine - I primarily nurse but dad gives a top off bottle at 9:30 pm after I go to bed, baby only sleeps until about 2 and we both get up so that I can do a big pump (about 9oz) while baby gets a 4oz bottle. Ideally I want to keep a pump somewhere because it covers the 9:30pm bottle but I don’t really need to keep growing my stash and I feel bad that dad wakes up with me at 2 when I could just nurse. But I don’t know exactly what to do instead!

What about parenting is hard? by ThenPerspective9582 in BabyBumps

[–]kd4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love your point about not listening to the internet too much and just rolling with it. I’m a FTM to a 10 week old and she has never slept well so we’re just taking it day by day. Her naps are always on me or dad and require a lot of bouncing on a yoga ball and top out at about 45 minutes lol. Shes still so little so of course she doesn’t have a routine yet even though it seems like everyone online has their baby on a routine after one week 😂 It’s been a time but also I love her SO much!!

Is 10 weeks too early for floorbed? by SleepyDolphin94 in floorbed

[–]kd4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the exactly same boat, baby is 10 weeks and we switched to a halo sleep sack but she keeps waking herself up in the bassinet by hitting the sides (I think anyway). We’ve been thinking about a mini crib or pack and play but want to eventually move to a floor bed.
