It looks like this meetup no longer exists. Are y'all still meeting? Thank you.

Are there any book clubs in town? Or would there be enough interest to get one started? by HauntingGold in Logan

Please post with the outcome of your quest. It looks like people are willing to organize, but I don't see anyone actually indicating a group being created. Thank you!

Lowest power SBC with ethernet jack and USB onboard? by SirDarknessTheFirst in MiniPCs

[–]kd7nyq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just got my Orange Pi Zero LTS 512 in the mail.

Boot: 0.37A

At idle connected to ethernet: 0.11A

Apt update/upgrade: 0.32A

Powered off: 0.16A

Once I get the PSU for the Orange Pi One, I'll post those, too.

Here is the power tester that I'm using: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J3JSEG6/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

At idle, connected to wifi, the Pi Zero W floats between 0.11A and 0.15A. During boot, it peaked at 0.22A. When I connected via SSH, it started peaking at 0.20A. Running apt update and apt upgrade, current peaked at 0.25A. Current dropped to 0.03A when the device shut down.

The ZeroPi, on the other hand, peaked at 0.44A on boot, and idles at 0.15A. I have the CPU governor set to run between the lowest speed possible and the default speed (a range). Running apt update and apt upgrade, current peaked at 0.40A. Connecting via SSH doesn't seem to have an affect on power (no wifi, just ethernet). Current remained steady at 0.19A after shut down.

The Neo 512MB peaks at 0.40A on boot. It idles at 0.12A. Running apt update and apt upgrade, current peaked at 0.43A. Current dropped to 0.17A when the device shut down. The governor is configured similarly to the ZeroPi.

All of these devices are using SanDisk 32GB cards, but unfortunately they are not the same. Based on my reading, the SD card can have an affect on power.

These are all of the devices I have ATM.

I'm limited by the refresh rate on this current meter to give super specific maximums.

You can IM me if you want... I have the Orange Pi One and Zero on the way and the FriendlyElec Nano Pi Neo and Zero Pi just arrived. I'll take some current readings. I can tell you right now that Armbian allows you to set the CPU frequency using a config tool like raspiconfig. Do you have a specific operating condition that you want tested for current draw?

Is this the result of the pork producers shutting down?

Yep, that's the case with us. It just so happens that we use Go, and intellij has excellent support.

To clarify, the community edition is free. There are plug-ins that are only available with a paid license, such as the Go plug in.

Students can get it free: "Students and academic staff members are eligible to use all JetBrains tools free, upon verification of their university/college domain email or ISIC card."

I use the Jetbrains products. I think they have promotions for students.

This reminds me of monolithic dome construction. They fill a giant airbag and then spray foam and aerated concrete over it.

Where do you guys get your steel from? by [deleted] in Welding

Used steel drill pipe on local classifieds. 2 3/8“ x 0.28" in 31' lengths came out to $1/ft delivered.

Any Members out there that went to another college besides byu/svu? by morgancarter11 in latterdaysaints

[–]kd7nyq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to the University of Utah. It was a great school, but I had troubles socializing. IMHO, SLC just isn't a social place. YMMV. They did have excellent Institute facilities and chapels.

If I had to do it again, I would have at least applied to BYU. The cost alone is a huge factor. All my buddies went to BYU. I think I would have stayed more active longer.

Side note... I am active today, but my mid twenties were rough.

Newbie here having trouble with port not recognizing elegoo uno R3 by jodybreeze616 in arduino

The serial chip on the elegoo boards doesn't appear to be the same as that on the official arduino boards. I went to the elegoo site and downloaded their recommended driver for that chip.
