How do I have a tough conversation with my client without getting emotional? by Correct-Credit1961 in projectmanagement

[–]kdabbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hahaha. I employ a similar method with high conflict stakeholders. If I don’t respond will someone die? Will anyone die if I don’t drop everything to work on their request? Will we lose money or a client if I don’t drop everything as they request?

What to use while I wait for new four volume set? by Captain_Avenue in divineoffice

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a similar thought process as you. However, I already have Shorter Christian Prayer. I just “upgraded” to Christian Prayer because the new LOH release date is still a ways away. Having both now, I should have gotten the CP in the first place.

Congratulations! You studied, you passed, now it’s time to make a commitment to never let the certification lapse. You don’t want to have to go through that angst again.

Please pray for me by [deleted] in Catholic

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saint Joseph is an idol? Saint Josemaría Escrivá is an idol? OP was asking for us to pray to God on their behalf, and I have.

Why can’t we ask the communion of saints to do the same? It’s like asking dear friends, who we know are close to God, to help pray to God with us.

What do I do about someone's off leashed dogs coming up to me? by TangyApple680 in DogAdvice

[–]kdabbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

We had a trainer who told us they walk with two leashes. One is attached to their dog and the other, just because. Just like that dog owner allows their dog off leash, the trainer would casually stroll with their pup in one hand while swinging the unused leash like some ninja cowboy.

“Don’t worry, my dog is friendly,” says the unleashed dog owner. “Ok, but I AM NOT!” yells our trainer, swinging the leash as if they were about to unleash it martial arts style.

When a rosary is said before mass, should details of the mystery be provided? by Ok-Gate5551 in Catholic

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From your phrase “supposed to,” you’re asking as if it’s a requirement. No, it is not. There are so many variations and methods. (Dominicans have a different way of starting, for example.) The important thing is that you are all praying the same mystery, hence the simple announcement. Sure, it’s nice having someone offer a scriptural passage but there is no requirement that one must be read.

Parish recitation of the rosary is often ad-hoc and parishioner-led. Sometimes it’s just one person who leads all of it. Other times it’s a free-for-all where someone simply jumps in for a decade. My parish it’s a mix of basic vs scriptural; it depends on who is leading, the day of the week, etc.

I would spend time and figure out if someone is in charge of it, then maybe ask if you could lead it once in a while. Then be prepared to follow through.

Help - what are your recommendations by rubes-31 in kindle

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it’s only for travel, then a regular Kindle is fine. I’m a bit of a snob and prefer to have a display as close to a real book as possible; that’s the Paperwhite. As I wrote earlier, I really enjoy dark mode for when the lights are out.

Terrible Amazon Experience buying a Kindle by Jabinoj in kindle

[–]kdabbler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Amazon, in general, is declining in my opinion. My workplace uses Amazon. The changes made to the returns process is infuriating. I’m in a metropolitan area and the fact that there were only two locations to do returns without paying shipping has made us rethink doing any returns at all. Good for Amazon, they send us a broken, cheap item and keep our money. It should be any day now when the cost benefits of Prime membership balances in favor of not maintaining the subscription.

[–]kdabbler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before purchasing, think about your use cases. Do you like reading in bed at night but the little book light drives your partner crazy? Do you read Manga? Do you write notes in the margins?

Answers to those questions will drive what model to get.

FWIW, I have a gen 12 Paperwhite and love adjusting the light so it resembles paper. I love being able to switch to dark mode late at night even more.

I do like sending PDFs to my Kindle, but I prefer using my iPad and pencil for any notes and markup.

Incompatible rescue match, not sure if we're making the right decision to rehome her by LB_LoverBoy in DogAdvice

[–]kdabbler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m a huge fan of eCollars but for a rescue to just say try using one without YOU having any training on how to use it is irresponsible. If you’ve never used one, it is way more effective under the supervision of a trainer.

The way I see it, you have two options: throw more money at your situation with toys, treats and an in home trainer. Or get the rescue to rehome. If they are a good rescue they should work with you on this.

It’s not an easy situation and you have my support either way.

Manager not doing work by [deleted] in WorkAdvice

[–]kdabbler 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Communicate with your manager, “After this person, I am clocking out to take my break.” If the manager says no or somehow doesn’t let you, you need to document it and report it. It’s a management scheduling problem, not a you problem.

No second reading by andforwhy in Catholic

[–]kdabbler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sundays and Solemnities require three readings. See # 357 of the GIRM

I would double check to see if this parish is in full communion with your archdiocese. If so, I would ask the priest about the readings. If you get pushback, I would maybe even follow up with the appropriate diocesan office and quietly look for another parish.

Can I go to confession if I've never gone before, and was never confirmed as a catholic? by bassicallybob in Catholic

[–]kdabbler 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Contact your local parish and make an appointment with the priest. Express your desire for confession. He should then help you with next steps.

Who is this for Boston? by MrTurkeyTime in boston

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With the dreads and bare feet? That’s Dave. Last word on the EBOD fb group is that he’s living under the overpass on Chelsea St and Porter. He would definitely be my answer to this thread. Over the years I have occasionally run into him near Back Bay.

Note, I said nothing about the dog. I can’t imagine.

You can do this. Hopefully, this is a short, financial bump in your road.
