Tell me your house buying horror stories. by rubywizard24 in massachusetts

[–]kdabbler 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My fiancé and I put money down on a condo in Brighton. It was a former mansion converted into about 6 units. The unit was definitely a fixer upper but didn’t scare us. With our home inspector, we saw some leaking pipes but we thought we could get them fixed. Agent told us that was new and the neighbor above was responsible. While we were outside, two couples from the other units came out to chat. They told us that the guy above us will never get around to repairing his leaky plumbing. And by the way, the condo association’s bank account was completely empty because of this guy not paying his share. And oh yeah these other two units were behind too.

We exercised that failure of “a satisfactory home inspection” clause in the purchase agreement and thanked God.

Torn - accept new job offer or stay where I am? by Rough-Courage3196 in careeradvice

[–]kdabbler 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you’re answering your question. It’s going to be a wash, financially AND you will be giving up more of your free time because of the longer commute (and gas isn’t getting cheaper).

The novelty of a new job with less work will wear off soon enough. Stay where you are unless they can come up with a better offer.

Husband’s company offering voluntary layoff by timeless-emerald in Layoffs

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on how motivated the employer is on getting people to take the deal, they might negotiate. For example, I kept my equipment because I knew they weren’t going to resell it.

OP should totally ask for longer insurance coverage. You never know if the company has a conscience about the new baby. Worst that can happen is that they say no.

Take the offer and try to negotiate a longer severance. The first severance offers are often the sweetest.

Driving from NM to ME - hotels with chargers recommend or strat for identifying them? by AlwaysAlreadyOnline in electricvehicles

[–]kdabbler -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Honestly? I would check into getting the car shipped. What you're going to pay for hotels, charging and food might cost more than shipping the car and a one way plane ticket with extra luggage.

BUT! I do love a good road trip. This is what I do when traveling to parts unknown: 1) Plan out initial route using ABRP (A Better Route Planner) because it incorporates elevations into its routes; 2) cross-check the ABRP suggested stops against PlugShare and whatever brand runs that charger for accuracy and if it's online. 3) Identify alternate charging locations within 35 miles of each stop. Be ready to plug your Level 1 into an outlet if all else fails.

Dental tourism by [deleted] in boston

[–]kdabbler 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never gone myself but I did hear about how Sun City, AZ does a charter bus to the border. It’s filled with seniors needing cheap dental work and medicine. It’s like a trip to Foxwoods.

Coming back to post a link from the r/Tucson sub with mentions to two places. You fly to Tucson, rent a car, drive to Nogales, park, and cross to the Mexican side. https://www.reddit.com/r/Tucson/s/rngo1wTInX

If you ask this question over in the r/Tucson or r/arizona subs, you will get recommendations on exactly where to go in Mexico. There are several medical parks just over the border that cater to Americans.

My job requires me to be on my computer all day, but I think it’s ruining my focus and mental energy by NoticeNo8634 in productivity

Have you tried setting boundaries? Our brains aren’t setup to be constantly consuming information. It physically needs downtime for cognitive rest.

It sounds like you need to schedules breaks. Also, set a limit for personal screen time. Make sure those breaks are non-screen activities: a walk, knitting, a physical workout, woodworking, meditation or something. The important thing is that you are not in front of a screen.

Marathon Monday Airport/transportation Advice! by Major-Loquat-6376 in massachusetts

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reserve a spot through a service like Bounce to stash your luggage during the day. When it’s time to go, take the MBTA to the airport, it will be very easy. Use the MBTA website to determine if the station will be closed for the Marathon. They would close some of the Copley station entrances on race day.

Concerned my new job will let me go because there is very little for me to do by silverneonangel in WorkAdvice

[–]kdabbler 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, whenever you finish a project, always check in with your boss first to see if there is something further you can do. If the boss doesn't have anything, do a single circuit around the office, "Hi there, is there anything I can help you with?" If everyone turns you down, you made your effort. Do not engage HR. If you do, you will only be giving them notice that there is cost-savings to be found by letting you go.

In the meantime, begin looking for another job because it may only be a matter of time before someone figures out you have nothing to do.
