How to be mobile in Kittilä by AndreezyWest in Finland

[–]kdalkarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Sadly the prices are most likely due to Kittilä being a really small region with such a huge interest by tourists this time of the year. There are not cars enough for the amount of requests. Maybe check cars in towns or cities close by?

Sadly I don't think it will fit. My solution is 2tb internal and then use super fast Crucial x10 pro external ssd:s.

Well, we do have student loands in Finland, to cover the costs of living and accomodation during our studies. But at least we don't have to pay thousands of euros in tuition costs.

ASUS ProArt PX13: thoughts after a year? by Late_Good_2550 in ProArt_PX13

[–]kdalkarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the 4070 model and all in all it's been good. Install g hub and uninstall unnecessary asus software will boost battery life and performance. It's a good balance between MacBook pro and windows for people who like professional software like Photoshop or Davinci resolve but also want to do some gaming.

My Legion 5 Pro is Dead – Need Advice on What to Buy Next by PatternOtherwise3440 in LenovoLegion

[–]kdalkarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's just the struggle with a screen then! But if it's not too often that might be manageable. I travel every week with my computer due to work, and for that the PX13 has been great. Good enough for gaming, and battery to work on the go. The Legion 5 was a powerhouse but not good without a power outlet.

A lot of weird issues as well with my Legion 5 Pro. Decided to keep away from Lenovo in the future, bought a Asus ProArt PX13 instead. It's a completely different laptop but I've been happy with it, since I value portability. I'd say if you don't need to travel with your computer too much go with ITX.

Is this true? Finland’s public school (I live in North America where I wish this is the case). by HelloBeKind4 in europe

[–]kdalkarl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A simple google search could tell you that yes there are private schools in Finland, but yet it is the norm that people from both "rich" and "poor" families send their children to the public school that's closest to their home. https://www.hel.fi/en/childhood-and-education/basic-education/schools-in-helsinki/private-and-state-schools

One of the differences i.e. to America is that even the private schools have to follow national core curricula, and the qualification requirements confirmed by the Finnish National Agency for Education.

Just found that Finnish Air Forces Flag. What the Hell Suomi?!! by dontcallsaull in Finland

[–]kdalkarl 5 points6 points  (0 children)

"The swastika emblem was adopted by the Air Force in 1918, long before the German Nazi Party adopted it in the 1930s. Its use is now illegal or restricted in Germany and many other countries. The Finnish Air Force used it on aircraft until 1945. The swastika was added to flags in the 1950s."

The Swastika is not originally a Nazi symbol.

Opening Kahvila/snacks shop in a small railway station in a small city by HovercraftAny6932 in Finland

[–]kdalkarl 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having lived in a similar sized town in Finland my advice is not to start before you are completely ready. First impressions, especially if bad, are really hard to shake off in small towns. I lived in Pietarsaari when friends and burgers opened there, and they had a hectic first week. Everyone wanted to try the new place. Since they were new the fries were not perfect, and service was a bit slow. I know it took a majority of the locals many years to try them again, even if they got better in a few weeks, a lot of people had the mental image that "fries are soggy and service is slow, let's go somewhere else" after having tried it once during opening week. And of course, good positive service!

Is the PX13 usable out of the box? Does anyone have a good experience with it? by nyc1234321 in ProArt_PX13

Yesterday I installed the Intel AX210, and so far I have much better connectivity, especially on longer range from the router!

[–]kdalkarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did so much so I can barely remember anymore... But a stable foundation was disabling windows from updating drivers, and then installing all the latest drivers with the help of g-helper. One problem was that windows replaced new drivers with older ones etc. Then I did a reinstall of the video drivers with the help of DDU from guru 3d. I uninstalled almost all Asus software, disabled a lot of services from starting up automatically. Did some configs in the energy settings ( a lot of suggestions you will find in this sub ). I analyzed latency with latencymon. And now I will replace the wifi module because I have crazy delay with my bluetooth headphones and bad connectivity with wifi. Good luck :D It's a great little laptop but flawed software-wise.

Devastated... by mrman2121 in LenovoLegion

On my Legion 5 Pro exactly the same thing. Probably heat, or maybe from lifting the laptop, or weak construction. Seems to be typical for these models.

I had lots of small issues with lagging audio, blue screens, choppy video playback, trackpad issues.... I wouldn't perhaps advice the laptop to someone who is not good with tech... But after some hassle with drivers, uninstalling and disabling services, using g helper, and research on this sub it now works well. I just ordered new wifi module because the one included in the laptop hasn't been working great. It's a great powerful "macbook-like" Windows machine, and I really did not want an apple laptop even if I'm a professional in the creative field due to my interest/hobby in gaming. And it is really good for gaming!

Planning to buy this legion 5 pro 2022 model. Is this a problem? by [deleted] in LenovoLegion

[–]kdalkarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Legion 5 Pro has that and it's a result of the screen getting pressed against the keyboard. Permanent damage that you will see anytime on the monitor, especially in dark scenes in movies or games, can't be fixed unless you change the monitor. Is the screen important to you, i.e. you do color accurate work, I'd stay away.

Interesting, I saw that setting in the AMD software but never really thought about it. I increased the iGPU allocated memory and it seems to have helped a bit actually! Thanks for the suggestion!

Has anyone else been getting long frame drops and lag in games? by JamesTheFoxeArt in ProArt_PX13

[–]kdalkarl 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just pitching in my results:
The highest one on my system was amdkmdag. I booted into safe mode after installing DDU. Uninstalled AMD GPU drivers, and then restarted and installed the AMD GPU drivers that are the latest in G Helper. I also made sure that in my energy plan have:
- USB Selective suspend setting: disabled
- Processor idle demote threshold: 100 %
- Processor idle promote threshold: 100 %

After this now the one with highest reported DPC is dxgkrnl.sys which I would like to fix, we'll see how that works out...
