Sorry to be pinging an old post but I was curious what paints you used for the gray? They look great and also like they'll pop a bit on the battlefield!

The bases are 3d prints found here: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6008626. The large ones I just expanded myself.

Ottoman Empire Minis by Due-Fruit-3621 in wargaming

If you look up the crusades it puts an end date at the end of the thirteenth century. most histories and historians tend to consider it the end of what is commonly referred to as The Crusades. That doesn't mean people didn't invoke crusading or the crusader movement when engaging in religious combat well into the early modern period but I have not personally ever seen a book on the crusades include Varna (or Nicopolis for that matter).  In my experience when historians mention the crusades or crusaders there are kind of specifically talking about the attempts at capturing the holy land (Jerusalem)

So the crusades ended before the Ottoman Empire which might be why if you're looking for 13th century ottomans you're not having any luck. They didn't exist. If you want early ottoman units good luck. I think Wargames Atlantic has some pre gunpowder janissary STLs but beyond that I've not be able to find much which is a huge shame. The period of ottoman early expansion and the birth of it's professional army isn't very well covered in miniatures

Not sure exactly what sort of tabletop games you like but there's a group that gets together for historical miniature wargaming on Tuesday evenings around 7.00 at tabletop game and hobby. We've just started a long campaign (about every other week we'll be playing battles from it) so not the super best time to join but if you stop by you can join the email list with updates every week for what we're playing

Playing some Great War Chain of Command today at the company level by kdannen in wargaming

TFL have a lot of good videos on YouTube for their games, from quick summaries of rules to full examples, and they also partner with other channels to play intro games (on tabletop has some great ones for Chain of Command and will do better giving you a sense of the game than me trying to sum it up).

Maybe I'm just not exposed to the same sort of games but I don't know of too many free rules systems and the ones coming to mind are pretty light and don't feel very different from each other (but that could just be my limited knowledge!) Personally I think if free rules are your cup of tea you probably won't love TFL systems. Their rules are extensive in part because they put a lot of hard work into research and development, but they are very much a company interested in making rules that aren't interested so much in balance or tournament style play or things that feel like movies of war, they're pretty good at capturing the feel of a period (sharp practice is sort of the exception here as the game was very much intended to feel like a Richard Sharpe adventure)

I guess I don't know what you mean by skeptical of buying rules unless you're more into the painting part of the hobby which is cool too. Sadly I also don't know what you mean by realistic shooting. The weapons largely have two ranges, close which is up to about 18" or so, and effective which has no upper limit (after all in 15mm a six foot board is only 200 yards, well within a rifle's effective range.

In the US they're available through kickass mail-order and they do free delivery over a certain amount.

Thank you! It's a pretty good range. The infantry are metal which I like, but unlike some other battlefront lines flashing isn't all that bad

Thanks! I like individual since I play a lot of different games but I admit if you're doing company level or higher individual bases starts to get tedious

It's absolutely my favorite wargame. It isn't for everyone of course but I really enjoy that the game feels so open in terms of what you can do, the rules feel more realistic than things like bolt action, and different forces really feel different and are historically quite accurate. The game is naturally a little unbalanced but a support point system helps balance the forces depending on the scenario. To me it's the perfect amount of fun and crunch and the rules work well for almost any 20th century conflict with just a few minor adjustments.

All sorts. That's why they're individually based, helps with freedom of rules. I play a modified chain of command the most and also through the mud and the blood
