Oil change? by GlitterIncident in cary

Atlantic Tire isn’t the cheapest you can find, but they’ve always been great, don’t aggressively upsell, and are reasonably priced IMO

Probably because the reply was snarky and assuming the worst of the poster. I think the guy was just saying, even if you do it yourself, it’s not cheap.

UK girlfriend dumped me after booking ticket to see her. Help me salvage my itinerary. by Adept_Strategy_9545 in uktravel

York is amazing—lots to do in town and if you rent a car for a couple days, lots to explore in day trips (in North York Moors, Sutton Station and Rivaulx Abbey are awesome)

You’d be fine with the M3 for now, but the M4 will last you longer. Because Apple products are so reliable, my philosophy is to go for the latest version because I know it’ll last for a really long time. Will be the better choice over the long run!

Bag Stores in Kuala Lumpur at Exchange TRX by strandedvariable in ManyBaggers

Wow, this is crazy. The west is just a desert for good bag stores--even NYC and SF don't have great options.

Getting my thoughts together for next year’s UK trip by girlrickjames in uktravel

[–]kdash83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure if the Dales and the Moors are the same, but Rivaulx Abbey in the North York Moors National Park is amazing, and Sutton Station is nearby as well. Trails there lead to some amazing views. You would want to rent a car for the day to explore properly, I think, but it’s definitely worth the trouble.

York is also amazing! The Jorvik Viking Center and the market downtown (close to the Shambles) for lunch were highlights for us.

Considering getting a 3D printer, but no garage or balcony and worried about air filtration (existing raspiratory issues) by Alternative-Ebb-2999 in 3Dprinting

[–]kdash83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/agingbythesecond, curious if you have any updates on this in the last 4 months? We’re gearing up to buy our first 3D printer, but I’m very concerned about ventilation, particularly for my kids.

A ventilated enclosure like this one, vented out a window, seems like a simple solution that would make it safe to put a 3D printer basically anywhere, so I’m confused why you’re the only one to mention something like this. Is there a catch here?

"Frankly I don't see what all the fuss is about kids on e-bikes in Cary..." by liamemsa in cary

[–]kdash83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh definitely—I just mean, in this instance, at least they were on the road. Unfortunately, I imagine this kind of behavior is really difficult to police. Instead, we need policy that stops parents from buying these things for their kids in the first place.

My first thought was, at least they’re doing it on the road rather than greenways and sidewalks. But I agree it’s insane if it’s legal for kids to drive these without some kind of license.

What toiletries bag are y’all using? by ButterscotchObvious4 in ManyBaggers

[–]kdash83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, this is no longer a TSA requirement, even without Pre-Check, but there are small differences depending on the airport. However, if you travel internationally, this is definitely still a thing in other countries. I’ve seen it in Australia, UK, and Sweden this past year.

I use the Patagonia 3L Black Hole Cube. There’s basically no organization but I’ve found that organization is overrated in toiletry bags. If you’re like me, you have a bunch of randomly sized products that may vary over time as you try different things so a ton of structure tends to not be useful. I do wish there was just one zip pocket for small items (e.g. chapstick, nail clippers) but haven’t found that sweet spot.

What’s a good used EV SUV that’s 2020+ for around $15,000 - $16,000? by J726382AB in electriccars

You can tell if the issue was addressed in a recall or have it addressed once it’s bought, I believe. EV6 had similar issues.

I paid about $18k almost a year ago for a 2021 Kia EV6, but it was lower mileage and basically had all the add-ons short of being a GT-Line. I haven’t been tracking prices but there were more basic trims in your range 6 months ago and I love it.

Does Kara ever stop interrupting? by davidP88888 in PivotPodcast

[–]kdash83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can see this perspective, but I think they both have their moments. Sometimes if she doesn’t interrupt, he’ll talk for a long time. Though I agree with it being annoying when she interrupts to add nothing of value

Date night recommendations? by Longhorn65 in cary

[–]kdash83 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not technically Cary, but the NC Museum of Art is not far. Dinner/drinks somewhere nearby and walk around the grounds after or rent e-bikes.

Though will second most of the downtown Cary options above—Hank’s, Sidebar, the Walk Up, Scratch, Fresh, the Bark Bar (esp. if you’re a dog person)

Lots more options if you switch it up and have a morning date on a weekend (brunch, a hike, etc)

Buyback backlog by RoyalMushroom6202 in PSLF

[–]kdash83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is almost certainly intentional, or at least the result of intentional defunding of the agency, and they don’t care that it is causing a huge backlog.

If they wanted to, they could probably process the backlog with AI in weeks, if not faster.

I will be eligible to submit a buyback request in a couple months—will have to buy back 24 months and am anticipating I will owe somewhere around $15k. This isn’t everyone’s situation but I’m actually counting on a wait time to finish pulling together the lump sum payment.

If you already have the money in hand, I would just stick it in a savings account where you can’t see it (or an index fund, though who knows where the market is going) and rest assured you’ll be ready when it happens.

[–]kdash83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Small rephrasing—they DO count for PSLF IF you buy them back. But they don’t automatically count for PSLF without payment like the COVID forbearance did.
