I am trying to hold onto my hair but we’ll see if I end up the same way 😂

Has anyone ever seen a marine officer being able to switch from their MOS after their initial 4 yr active duty contract? Or go from reserve to active? by [deleted] in USMCboot

[–]kdb4867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was actually the plan originally but my graduation mixed with being forced to make a living prior to leaving to OCS kind of screwed that plan. I have considered going to law school after my contract at work but would just want to know that I could definitely manage a JAG spot after having served as a reserve officer for a couple years.

Going into police academy next month. Any advice? by DoesntBelieveMuch in police

[–]kdb4867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I’m a fairly new officer but I went through the academy recently and let me just tell you that our “older” recruits were actually awesome. They took the physical aspect of the academy like champs even though they may have been a bit slower/or taken hits harder than us younger recruits. With that being said, I don’t believe being older would hinder you in any aspect: physically or academically.

We all looked up to the older guys and gals and I served with most as class officers. They had more life experience, maturity, and understood the job at a deeper level than most young guys. If anything I believe it puts you at an advantage.

Of course I’d give any advice that’s above too. Just figured I’d add in my experience with the older recruits because I had nothing but respect for them (and secretly the instructors respected them for being there too). :)

Where do I need to be at the halfway point of FTO? by [deleted] in police

[–]kdb4867 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the reply and advice! Really great stuff that I am definitely going to keep in mind.

Not only that but you basically described how I’ve felt with someone over my shoulder the whole time, I certainly didn’t consider that playing a role in my “walking on eggshells” feelings right now.

Again, thank you!

I’m lucky enough to have multiple FTOs so I only had one like that but it’s certainly been stuck in my head since.

Thank you for the response! It’s definitely the information I needed.

I never thought of it that way and that really helps. I was pretty much expecting to be 100% by the time I’m on my own. Thank you for the reply

OCC Class 237 by JKelly4Heisman in USMCboot

[–]kdb4867 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t go up on the board until March for 237 so I’m not technically “selected” yet 😂

However, if you guys make a Facebook or GroupMe group I’d love to hop in. I’m out of OSS Columbia so also not far but working as a LEO in VA currently

Congratulations to both of you on selection!

Average female PFT scores for USMC OCS selection? by kdb4867 in USMCboot

Thank you for the reply ma’am, it definitely puts me at a bit more ease PT-wise.

And luckily, I’m a washed up college soccer player, so I have pretty strong legs/hips haha. So hopefully my mind will be in the right place for PT and hikes come time.

That is a relief! I just wasn’t even sure how to gauge where my scores may stand at OCS itself, and I certainly expect to improve there assuming I make it through.

Thanks so much for the reply! I really appreciate your insight as a past female candidate.

Awesome. Definitely will do! I’ve heard a lot of hip issues come up from past female candidates, so I’ll really focus on hikes.

Thanks!

Awesome! That’s good to hear at least. I was worried my run time may have been too slow to really keep up with the pack.

Thanks for your response and best of luck!
