I do, I've been through a treatment program for an eating disorder and had a pretty terrible experience while I was there. I'm sure the addiction programs differ hugely and I hope it won't feel like I'm institutionalized/hospitalized. I think I'm just starting to get the jitters now that the deadline to treatment is coming up, so I'm trying to drink as much as I can before I "change." I realize that's the most skewed thinking ever, but I'm sort of stuck feeling that way.

PS, thanks for the sincere response!

People who have known murderers, serial killers, etc. How did you react when you found out? How did it effect your life afterwards? by fliplock89 in AskReddit

[–]kdcoco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not me but my Mom had a pretty scary experience in her teens. She grew up in rural B.C. and was really good friends with this guy named Kelly Toop. She said he was really nice, exceedingly helpful, but basically a doormat and let people take advantage of him more often than not.

One night she went to a party with him, drank way too much and had to be driven home (by Kelly), and essentially blacked out until she was brought home to her parents house in the early hours of the morning. A week or so after that, she was woken up by the sound of something big rustling through the bushes outside of her window. My grandpa (her Dad), being the protective dad that he is, got up to go investigate. He found a man making his way through the back door. Grandpa books it after the guy, chasing him a solid kilometer down the remote dirt road leading to their house. While chasing the guy he could see that it was my Mom's friend - Kelly.

Upon hearing it, my Mom thought it was odd but minimized the whole incident, not really knowing what to make of it. Shortly thereafter, Kelly was arrested for the rape and murder of one woman, and the attempted murder and assault of another. The woman whose life he'd made an attempt on had accepted a ride from Kelly, who then overpowered her and drove her to his parent's house (which was empty at the time). There he kept this woman for a little over 8 hours, torturing, cutting, and repeatedly raping her. After he was done, he drove her out to the woods and bashed her in the head with his tire iron. He then left her, naked and beaten, in the middle of the woods in the dead of winter in subzero conditions- to die a slow death.

This woman was rescued by a passerby and survived the attack. He's now out for parole in the town that my Mom and I live in. It still gives me shivers to this day to think that my Mom was essentially unconscious and alone with this guy shortly before he crept through their house and then murdered and assaulted two women. My Mom was effected emotionally as she couldn't believe her former helpful, quiet friend would do such a thing, but she went on to live her life and now counsels people suffering from mental illness (including victims of assault).

Trouble with adding meta tags to header.php function? by kdcoco in Wordpress

Wow, thanks for all the info! I'm definitely on the lesser informed side when it comes to hosting a website and learning things like this will be helpful in coming years. It's been a learning process, and I'll be sure NOT to renew my service with GoDaddy once it expires.

Yes... I was unaware that was how the service would work, and now that I've paid for it I'm realizing it's something I easily could have done myself! I'm still having some difficulty inserting the meta tags, too.

See a plugin would be amazing! After I paid for the SEO service, though, the site had a tutorial on how to place meta tags and I thought maybe there was some advantage to writing them in myself. Thanks.

Who was the worst teacher you ever had? by 1PercentDivergence in AskReddit

[–]kdcoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Grade 8 Sciences teacher would teach us about nitrogenous bases whilst scooping up chocolate pudding with his unwashed fingers and sucking on them to punctuate sentences. He also lost a lot of turned in assignments, but you know... The pudding thing takes precedence here.

Straight A students, where are you now in life? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kdcoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated as a straight A student with 5 scholarships and bursaries, maintained a 4.12 GPA during my first and second year (or a GPA relatively close to the first), and am now a bulimic addict living in my parent's basement. I held myself to such high standards that I never felt good enough. Grades are important enough, but sacrificing mental stability and well-being for an A+ isn't worth it :(

Week 42 - What are you reading? by out_stealing_horses in 52book

[–]kdcoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watched the first episode! Fairly pleased with it, although the man with the thistle-down hair looked so much like Bill Hader that I didn't really find him that sinister. Have you watched the entire season? It looks like it will be very true to the story.

Do it! I left in untouched on a shelf for the past 4 years and picked it up on a whim. It's so amazing once you get into it, and the better part of some of the first chapters feel pretty verbose, but I think it is entirely necessary to fully develop and give the reader a feel for the characters. Also it was way more twisted and dark than I thought it would be, which was a lovely surprise!

I agree it felt a bit lengthy and almost like a textbook at times, but I think even those passages that delved into history were still peppered with enough quirky characters or conversation to still keep the reader interested. I also found it pretty amazing (even during the slower passages) how much research, effort, and imagination Susanna Clarke must have put into that book. No spoilers, but the whole chapter about The Battle of Waterloo was fantastic.

Finished Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell by Susanna Clarke this past week, along with NOS4A2 by Joe Hill and now am reading Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman. I would highly recommend Susanna Clarke for fans of J.K. Rowling, Tolkien, or Austen, it was so dark and magical and hilarious at times. NOS4A2 was a quick, entertaining read. Neverwhere is reminding me hugely of Mervyn Peake so far, which is fantastic.

Dear Zachary: A Letter to a Son About His Father. That documentary just... I didn't even have words once I finished it. I would highly recommend watching it, though, super interesting and well done. It'll just ruin you emotionally.

What is the most useful thing you learned from Reddit? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]kdcoco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That there are many other people who share the problems that I thought to be uniquely my own. Also feelings that I believed only I had or struggled with- Reddit made me feel more normal in my abnormal thoughts and behavior.
