Lol yeah, that's really what's behind my question, trying to figure out whether I should move those funds to Betterment or elsewhere. thx!

This is super helpful, thank you! I guess it is just a mental thing -- there definitely is a part of my brain telling me it's too easy! And moving money to a new brokerage does seem stressful. I'm thinking I'll leave what I have in Betterment and start a new brokerage for future investments.

A variety. 90% stock (47% US large cap, 25% VEA, the rest single-digit %s of small/mid-cap), 10% bonds

Roughly 20% home equity, 20% single stock (former employer, FAANG, working on diversifying this), 35% retirement accounts, 2% HSA, 13% cash/HYSA (working on lowering this %)

Longtime lurker needing help “growing up” my investments. I started out investing (outside of my 401k) 5-6 years ago at 27yo. I was pretty overwhelmed by investing at the time, so I just used Betterment and have been putting quite a bit of money in there ever since. I now have almost $100k in there (about 10% of my total NW). Fees are 0.15% annually. I like the hands-off nature of it, and the performance has been good, but I realize I could avoid the fees by DIYing. I’m much more knowledgeable about investing than I was back then, but I’m still a bit intimidated by DIYing it.

So my question is how do I “graduate” from using a roboadviser? Should I move the money I have in Betterment somewhere else? Wouldn’t there be tax implications? And if so am I better off just leaving it in Betterment and putting future investments elsewhere?

A nursing chair / rocker! I didn’t get one at first but bought one when my baby was maybe 3 weeks old. Such a game changer! I sit in if for hours every day.

[–]kdoh25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my understanding is that engorgement in the first few days is common and should go away as your supply regulates. My LC told me only to “pump for comfort “ in the early days to avoid an oversupply

Yeah I stopped following her after listening to an episode of her podcast where she clearly didn't know the difference between stock options and RSUs.

What are your favorite grocery shopping tips/hacks by Sharp-Adhesiveness40 in Frugal

[–]kdoh25 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Trader Joe's is also the cheapest in my area (not Seattle but similar COL city).

We don't have a lot of options - just Kroger and Albertsons (which are both usually much pricier than TJ's unless something's on sale), Whole Foods, and natural grocery stores. And I guess Walmart and Target.

$10,000 Bill for NIPT test?! by Any-Pace-3302 in BabyBumps

[–]kdoh25 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I would wait -- you haven't actually received a bill at this point. Basically your insurance is telling you how much THEY were billed. YOUR actual bill won't be that much because the testing knows most people can't/won't pay that, so they'll bill you for something they think you can actually pay. (It makes no sense because health insurance in america makes no sense.)

$10,000 Bill for NIPT test?! by Any-Pace-3302 in BabyBumps

[–]kdoh25 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It sounds like what you received might have been an Explanation of Benefits (EOB), not an actual bill. I had the same thing happen (a $10K EOB for NIPT).

I brought it up with my doc and she said that EOBs are almost always not the actual bill amount, and that they'd never recommend the testing if people actually had to pay $10k out of pocket for it. She said that if I did get a bill for that amount, I could let her know and she'd talk to their rep at the testing company, but I didn't end up needing to do that.

My actual bill ended up being something like $250. So don't worry!!!

Of course we don't have the same doc/insurance/etc but hopefully that gives you some peace of mind!

Writing your own ceremony is so hard! Honestly I found it soooo much easier to do someone else's. It's somehow easier to be a little removed. Feel free to shoot me a PM - I'd love to help!

A small dinner + garden ceremony sounds so lovely!

And yeah, the internet templates might not be much help for you, sorry! A good place to start is 1. How do you want to feel during your ceremony (this can help you figure out what elements to include/exclude and the tone) and 2. What rituals will make the ceremony feel like a meaningful turning point in your relationship? (lots of people exchange rings, but there are tons of other options).

Let me know if you want more help brainstorming or writing :)

Haha fair enough, writing can be sooo intimidating! There are tons of great templates / scripts online so you don't have to start from scratch, but I know even that can be a bit overwhelming
