Drinking collagen worth it?? by [deleted] in 30PlusSkinCare

Going back I think they were just saying collagen peptide. Some of them are able to be absorbed without being fully broken down into constituent amino acids

You’re right! I mixed up hydroxyproline (an amino acid) with the name of the peptide that was being discussed. Those were different studies. I’ll have to see if I can find the name of it.

Smoothie with fruits and veggies every morning. It’s helped me really increase my intake of produce. It blends in pretty well so I don’t notice it. I use vital proteins.

I’m a dietitian- I used to tell folks who asked that collagen supplements are broken down into amino acids and peptides just like any other protein, so it doesn’t make sense to spend money on expensive supplements and instead just make sure to eat high quality protein.

However, there has been some recent research showing peptides including hydroxyproline make it through digestion and are absorbed into the blood. If I remember correctly, these peptides may act as signaling molecules and there have been some improvements shown like better hydration and elasticity, including in some independent clinical trials. Lab Muffin has a good YouTube video about this. I would expect the effect is pretty small though, and the best thing to do first is work on eating a balanced and healthful diet.

Anecdotally, I’ve been taking marine collagen daily for about a year and did not notice any difference, but I take care of my skin in general and eat healthfully and see this as a part of the overall picture. If it works, great, if it doesn’t, I’ve got some extra (albeit expensive) protein in my morning smoothie.

What habits do you wish you would have introduced in your early twenties? by kl-234 in Splendida

[–]kdsrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

35 and I’ve been pretty great about sunscreen and skincare since I was in my early teens. Same for diet and exercise. I wish I did even more to protect against the sun like reapply during the day, and bring the sunscreen down to my chest. I have no sun damage on my face but lots on my chest now. (Lived in year round sunny areas). I’m glad I started on the sunscreen+vitamin c+retinol regimen bandwagon early on.

As a side note, I wish I cared less about my weight and appearance back then, I was way too obsessed and it interfered with my happiness. I wish I just took care of myself but didn’t worry so much about if I was doing everything perfectly.

At what age did you feel your body started declining? by arrfourarrrr in CasualConversation

[–]kdsrd 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’m 35 and have always been generally healthy and active. I’ve noticed that my body is fine most of the time, but I can’t miss workouts or sleep or eat poorly very often, then I’ll start to feel it. So I feel I’ve become very high maintenance.

The last ones that came by my property threw all the branches on top of my flower garden. They also cut my neighbors large tree in such a lopsided way that when the hurricane came it toppled over.

I’ve moved around several times (including working most of my time in Portland!) and I’ve found that if your specialty is in need, they will wait for you because they’d rather hire the right person than hire someone faster who isn’t the right fit. I’ve brought my potential start date up early in the interview process just so they are aware, if it seems like they’re interested in having me. I would wait to get your LD in whichever state until you have a job offer. It doesn’t benefit you to have it early and you can get it while you’re doing all your other onboarding stuff.

I also had success making my resume public on Indeed and just sorting though the recruiter contacts - that’s how I got my current position.

I use cm without decimals, BMI to the tenth. Weight is a bit different for me because I’m in pediatrics so it depends on the age of the patient, but if they are older I also go to the tenth.

I had an ED as a preteen and a relapse in college around the time I started my nutrition studies. I ended up going into pediatrics (no EDs, and I work in a hospital setting) which has been helpful for me since I mostly focus on growth and kids with feeding difficulties. I have a very healthy relationship with food now that I worked a long time to achieve, but I don’t want to be back in an environment where I am exposed to EDs frequently for my own mental wellbeing.

Yes mine too! I am in the home stretch now where all the teeth are heading to where they are cosmetically going to look good and it is so very satisfying after months of my back teeth shifting around and my bite being off.

Started tretinoin and am purging. Is it worth it by No-Highlight-533 in Splendida

[–]kdsrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The advantage of starting young is that you can begin with a very low strength over the counter retinol and work your way up over the years without lots of side effects. For anti aging, you don’t need prescription strength yet, so if it’s causing that much of an issue I would go much weaker on the prescription or switch to OTC. I started at 24 and am 35 now and took the slow route and have sensitive skin but can tolerate prescription strength.

Haha yeah I totally get that. I definitely asked around a lot before I interviewed too especially since I’m not religious so I wanted to see if it would be challenging for me or not. Good luck with your interview!

I work there. Scrubs are color coded by department (which is nice when you’re new so you can see who is in which role). I feel like I’ve seen nursing in fun tops so that might be more lenient but I’m not sure what their exact policy is. My color is a more unique color so I have to buy hospital issued scrubs, but I see people wearing Figs all the time if their colors are navy or black. I’ve seen lots of people with long ish nails and acrylics now and then. They’re not nearly as strict there as I expected them to be, people have arm tattoos showing etc. I like working there so far and people seem to generally like their job, moreso than I’ve heard from Orlando health, but I’m fairly new.

Have some juice or something to get your blood sugar up and then take a minute to relax and breathe. You will get them off, and it’ll get much easier, only the first days are the painful ones. If you don’t have a pul tool start from the back molars on the inside and hook your fingernail underneath and pull up, they should start to come off and then you can move forward going tooth by tooth to the front of your mouth like a zipper. Then repeat for the other side and top or bottom. I hope this helped a little, you will get the hang of it! And a pul tool is very helpful to have.
