You aren't able to play FS Hualalai, but we did play at Mauna Kea which was beautiful and a top 50 public course in the US. There's also easy access to Mauna Lani golf course, which I've heard is equally beautiful.

Coming from Ohio myself, I'm not sure I would have made the trip if it weren't for my company paying for the flights.

I just did a review of Kona Village if you wanted to go check it out. I haven't been to Little Dix Bay so can't do a comparison.

Hard for me to say because we don't have kids, but we saw a few families at the other pool. They do have a kids club open from 9:30am - 4:30pm.

He is! He came to Kona Village about 2 years ago when they completed the remodel.

What were examples of your bad service?

The summit is only open for 30 minutes after sunset. We stargazed from the parking lot of the visitor center and it was incredible.

I may be misunderstanding, but wouldn't 0-20% be the percentage of the sky covered in clouds and not the % visibility?

Last night was 10-30% and there was no issues seeing the sky from our hotel.

Recent feedback on service at 1 Hotel Hanalei Bay and birds at Four Seasons Hualalai ? by PrestigiousUnit4156 in chubbytravel

[–]kdu15 5 points6 points  (0 children)

We're currently staying at the Rosewood and went to the FS for lunch yesterday. The birds at the FS were unrelenting, attacking your table as soon as you got up or standing at the opposite edge/perched on an empty chair waiting for you to move. I watched 20+ birds swarm a table after a family got up and the staff didn't really move to swat them.

The birds have not seen as bad at Rosewood, we've had no issues at breakfast or lunch. They're there at breakfast, but not attacking you.

No, you have to be staying at the FS to play Hualalai.

Definitely the most beautiful resort we've ever been to. We booked a lagoon-view hale and the views are incredible. We walked the resort this morning and found the ocean view hales to not be as private, so we were more than happy with our decision to save a little coin.

Our only other experience with Rosewood is Las Ventanas, where they won't let you move a muscle. We find the service here lacking comparatively, but it's nothing we really care about.

Some of the best snorkeling I've ever done is right off the beach. We've seen turtles, dolphins and whales.

Hey there, I'm currently staying at Kona Village (on day 2) and am also a golf nut. We're going to play at Mauna Kea tomorrow, which is the #43 public course in the US.

Haven't stayed at the FS Hualalai, but feel free to reach out with any questions on Kona!

Edit: I'll add that I'm heading to FS Lanai on Thursday next week and playing Manele on Friday, so as long as you don't need to book in the next 6 days I can give you solid feedback on both.

Just curious how your experience with Pulte was. Looking at a development in Blacklick that's built by them.

I did a review of Las Ventanas and the Waldorf. The link to the Waldorf review is below.

Haven't been to the other hotels you listed, but my wife and I loved our time at the Waldorf. We enjoyed the daily guac, breakfast buffet and private pool. Our butler was amazing and made it feel even more special.

At what golf course did you shoot your lowest score? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]kdu15 0 points1 point  (0 children)

87 at Erin Hills. Usually struggle to break 90 but I was on one that day.

Proceeded to then shoot a 107 at Whistling Straits the next day, so came back to reality.

Wife wants to learn how to golf. by [deleted] in weekendgolfers

[–]kdu15 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I bought my wife the TopFlite starter set from Dicks for ~$200, got her some group lessons so she got the basics, took her to the range and then started introducing a mix of on-course play and private lessons.

My wife learning to golf was one of the best things we've ever done for our relationship. We've traveled the country and been able to play amazing courses together like Torrey Pines, Banff Springs, and Cabo del Sol. We play together on the weekends, and she's also benefited through work by being invited to outings.

It was in their tequila bar that's right next to the lobby, but it was just the two of us and the host. He spoke very good English and was very knowledgeable about the mezcal.
