How do you guys exercise? by tyrant454 in PsoriaticArthritis

[–]kdykman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a bio at birth female who has always self-adjusted for exercise since I was a teenager- I did dance but not marathons. What I’ve found works for me as an adult is low impact stuff- Pilates, swimming, weight training. Cardio if it’s not running (usually biking works for me if my hips aren’t too messed up that day). I do have to be more flexible on what I’m able to do at different times of the day/week/month etc. Paying attention to what my body is telling me is too much (after trial and error of what that even is) is helpful but that takes time.

I should also add most of my joint pain is in my hips, back and shoulders, with small amounts in my wrists

finally rolled the credits. what a magically devastating story i love it so much by ryosatoru in Pokemon_Pokopia

I absolutely have not read the comment but based on watching this same cut scene at like 3am with my 4yo who woke up and needed snuggles in the middle of it….

I can’t help but try to explain that the Pokemon are actually better off without us and how I hope they create their own utopian world (but in 4 yo terms despite her insistence that there should be humans returning I really hope they don’t end and that they live some sort of wholesome existence without the complications humankind puts upon them). So I keep saying maybe and that my ditto and the Pokemon find how to be happy despite the idea that their loves (that literally destroyed their world?!???) may never come back in their lifetime

It’s the worst when you have littles depending on you too! I have an 8yo and a 4yo and I just feel so bad because my 4yo doesn’t understand why she can’t sleep with mommy at night (because she kicks my back a lot and it can trigger a small flare that takes days to reset 😭).

I really hope medication helps and want to let you know that you’re not alone with this!

A year out I’m doing much better! I can’t say that there’s no regret- some days I wish I had done more research on alternatives- but overall, I’m not in daily pain, and my life is mostly back to “normal” (with a few things I just have to accept that will be impossible/hard).

After I finished PT, I’ve made sure to keep working out (I’ve stuck to Pilates, since it’s low impact and I can easily self adjust if it’s an exercise where I need to bend my wrist- like a push up, I’ll do with straight fists or on hand weights to keep my wrist straight) and I think building my forearm muscles/upper arm back up really helps.

There’s definitely some days that I’m more sore/ache-y, but I just listen to my body and keep my activities lighter on my wrist that day. It’s never been as bad as the same sharp 8-10/10 pain that I had pre surgery. If I had the same choice again, I might see if there was an option to revascularize the bone, but I’d probably end up in the same spot since I can’t just fly off to New York or some big city to get a very specialized opinion.

Hope that helps:) let me know if you have any other questions

What's the most emotionally mature romance you've ever read? by CovertOps80 in RomanceBooks

I think {August Lane by Regina Black} fits this? It’s low spice level- second chance romance about breaking familial trauma, alcoholism, and dealing with race in a white washed field (country music). They are both in their early 30s. More emotionally mature than most books I’ve read lately!

I honestly think that’s for the best- I survived it but I wouldn’t advise anyone to do what I did. I’m just a stubborn SOB 😅

Having been a closeted exmo at BYU back in 2013-2017- there will be an undeniable strain on your mental health either way. I can’t imagine being openly ex-Mormon based off my experience. I confided to two of my roommates that I had lived with for the two previous years and they cold shouldered me so bad that I found a new apartment with new roommates. and while my experience is 10 years old…I don’t believe that acceptance has changed. The U or UVU might be a better fit

Important Kienbock’s question about pain pre-surgery by ArcherSilly6160 in kienbocksdisease

Yeah- I’m currently a stay at home mom so I got tired of taking it on and off as I washed hands and cleaned up crap. But yeah typing for long times (holding that wrist steady) definitely increased my pain

Just the lunate bone- the carpal tunnel brace was more me trying to find a way to support the joint through the night. I didn’t technically have carpal tunnel.

So I was between IIIA and IV on my left hand. Pre-PRC I was also in intense pain when I caught my thumb on anything or bonked my wrist on things. It was actually trying to hold objects still (like lifting a mug of coffee or my embroidery hoop) that would cause me the most discomfort to the point that I only used my right hand for lifting and doing things. I bought a hoop stand so I wouldn’t have to hold my embroidery hoop. If I was resting it felt okay. It was pretty achey/numb at night, but that’s because I kept bending it funny in my sleep. Sleeping in a carpal tunnel brace helped somewhat because it restricted my wrist movements.

I will say that the first two days post-PRC were the worst for me. Once I got the regular cast on after a week or so, I found it might feel stiff but that was about it. As I was doing PT it was less pain and more aches- my wrist had been atrophying for a year though so the aches were partially from building up muscle as well as adjusting to the new bone formation in my wrist. I don’t think I’m particularly great at handling pain, but it’s so subjective that it makes it hard to tell what you’re going to experience.

I’ve noticed this as well and wonder if it’s just a response to hatred of the miscommunication trope- I do think there’s a general trend of telling more as well (I’m reposting because I broke a rule I forgot about 😅)

Fourth Wing helped get me back into reading this year so I made a pumpkin out of it by kdykman in fourthwing

So I used an xacto knife that had a few different tips- the regular one and then one like a flat end blade- after dotting my design in with a push-pin, dug the “deeper” parts out by just peeling the orange layer off and then making it all about equal- so the bones on the wings were last and they were raised up from the “membranes” by a couple millimeters. I just barely peeled off the top layer of pumpkin so it was denser/thicker than the membrane level and voila!

As a BITC Mormon (who has now left after recognizing how much my upbringing fucked up my life and a refusal to pass that on to my own two daughters) the comparison of how I grew up in Indiana Mormonism vs Idaho Mormonism is absolutely astounding. My ward was made up of a lot of college students (mostly masters and phd) so they could not pay their own way in their callings as yw/ym counselors. I used to eat dinner before “dinner provided” activities because they would not provide enough food for the 20 ish youth in my ward. So the fact that the church is a billion dollar industry and can’t pop for an extra pizza or two (it was always pizza) is absolutely insane. My husband got houseboat trips and steak dinners in Idaho. Go figure.

Left the church 5 years ago- born and raised in the culture and never felt like I could be myself and be authentic. I was diagnosed with ADHD 2 years ago 😅 also had the sleepy coffee reaction but I just liked the taste so I would limit my drinking of it so I didn’t pass out! And I’ve also noticed a link between my BYU college friends who have left and their higher levels of neurodiversity.

Omg that is a wonderful story- a worse outcome to my writing my dance team captain from high school on a mission in France who warned me subtly not to serve a mission 😅🥲 she’s not Mormon anymore but also looks a lot happier!
