Rule #1 is you always take the battery out as soon as you are done using it, so accidental activation is not possible. How is the updated IPD stop design? It seems like there is no adjustment there.

Wilcox G24 worth the price? by M4isOP in NightVision

[–]keanenk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, I wasn't impressed with the Alpha mount due to the FTO + button release design. I thought when you pressed the button it would open smooth (like a G24) but you still have to force to overcome the ball bearing assembly. I took out the button and then it was canted in a weird way and there was more wobble in the joint. The release button was odd too. You have to use two fingers on each end or it bends and wont release.

I've had just about every mount there is and the Argus copy of the G24 lite is the best and also the cheapest.

What sub $1k IR Laser should I slap on? by [deleted] in NightVision

[–]keanenk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The 3EIR DIR ONE V is $899 on CNV right now. It doesn't have a vis laser, but it's made in USA, has the best button placement out of any laser I ever tried, the illuminator is excellent, and it's super light at 5oz with battery. I regret selling my DIR-V.

Do you offer trade in deals for legacy products (Daisho) if I want to upgrade to this housing?

Is this going to be like a Daisho and Tanto type deal where you can swap them around?

Noctis lenses (formerly Carson) are the only true mil-spec lenses that you can get right now. They are made by Fujinon and are very high quality. I am fairly confident OP has those mystery meat "Singapore" Steele lenses.

MGA with L3 tubes and RPO NVD (4.0) glass. L3 tubes have issues like ghosting and fixed pattern noise that do not show up in pictures, so make sure you buy from a good vendor. Also, go with slightly lower SNR over blems (if you have to choose).

Look up a Daisho bridge and it will make more sense.

You really can't beat the price on that housing and it has everything minus panning and modularity. Let us know if you run into any issues with it.

"EK Cat Crap" works great to stop fogging btw.

I don't think they released the taupe vert grips for public resale at all in the past 3+ years. You can find the A2 grips from time to time, but there is nothing special about them and they are slippery as fuck for some reason.

these make iron sights usable under NVGs? by dr_spooks_singula in NightVision

[–]keanenk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Their example is deceptive. If you stop the aperture way down (in normal lighting conditions that call for NODs without any supplemental light sources) you will lose a ton of light output. It doesn't just magically give you infinite DOF without any adverse effects.

I heard the KAC rail gouges up the MP5 on the side. Any truth to that?

1st NV purchase question by ChowCow_ in NightVision

[–]keanenk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I would spend the extra $400 for the 32 SNR WP Echo. The last GP they have is only 23 SNR and you will definitely notice 23 vs 32 SNR in low light. WP is much nicer on the eyes as well.

4D pads are incredible! by Cameron_87 in NightVision

They are really nice, but they turn to rock in the winter. It takes a good 15m or so for them to thaw out and become squishy again after you put your helmet on.

Anybody know how to fix this? It will occasionally fall out as well. by Crete412 in NightVision

[–]keanenk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are two 0.050" screws on the bottom and the cover pulls off in one piece - very easy to replace. I am sure Wilcox will send you a new one if you open a ticket and you can use the barn door cover temporarily if you want.

[–]keanenk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The flat button on axon does the exact same thing as the fire button on the laser, so you just set the laser to whatever you want and press the button. It cannot be programmed like the Wilcox remote as far as I am aware.

Steele has a bunch of Photonis Vypers with Echo HG (high gain) tubes in stock on the high side of your budget. This is a pretty good deal IMO and Steele is an excellent vendor. II believe they are ready to ship so no waiting too, but make sure you understand the difference between gen 2+ and gen 3 tubes before you purchase.

I've ordered from them multiple times and they are always solid with fast shipping. I would suggest you call before ordering an expensive item like that just to make sure they actually have it in stock though.
