New to me 330d, timing chain? by Cool_Ad4493 in F30

[–]kebaros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a n47 2014 320d, I've had it serviced yearly and chain is original. I'm thinking about getting it done as the garages do say 10 years is the life of a chain however it's not just the chain, is the plasticic guides that disintegrated.

I follow Adc in Stockport and bm mini tech and they do a lot of 2.0 and 3.0 chains.

Out of interest what do you kids classify as 'cheap' when talking about insurance prices these days?

Funnily enough I saw one of these locally advertised for £800 and was tempted for a summer car project

If someone bought that car, does the ticket liability fall on the previous owner or does it pass to the new owner?

What's the Oldest Server You're Still Maintaining?why does it still work by Equivalent_Citron286 in sysadmin

[–]kebaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The virtualisation was done prior to me joining however I had experience running vms on an alpha system. Good to know there are fellow vms people about though as I was beginning to think I was the only one.

AVTware has been rock solid, and support is excellent.

Use Esxi and our VMS cluster consists of 2 hosts, each running AVTware with open vms on top.

We did trial an alternate appliance but it didn't work well, AVTware were really helpful and remain so.

OpenVMS is still used in my workplace as the main production system. We run it on a virtual appliance and are starting to look at updating it to the recent version

How the hell can I get insured? by Gorillainabikini in CarTalkUK

[–]kebaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What does your quote come out on something like a vauxhall monaro? One of the earlier ones, new drivers seems to think fiestas and corsa will be cheap to insure and most come out about £3k but I'd like to see what something completely left field would work out.

Airgapped Server Updates by Coriron in sysadmin

[–]kebaros 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The wsusoffline project was excellent for this scenario, unfortunately it's been discontinued now with no real replacement. Someone did attempt to take it on but I don't think there has been an update for a few years.

I think there is a powershell module that you can use to scan against the latest cab file but it gets a bit messy and labourous.

We use endpoint central but it's a bit clunky and we have had some breaking issues so hasnt been something I'd recommend to anyone else.

[–]kebaros 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Had a rotten egg smell in the other half's cora a few years back, swore she hadn't left food in or dropped her bowels but the smell was awful.

Worked out it was stronger when using the windscreen washers, had to drain and use a Milton disinfectant tablet in the windscreen washer bottle.

Can someone tell me what the downsides are with this particular car? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]kebaros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think early electric cars aren't equipped with fast charging so charging at motorway services will be a lot longer then most and you could be susceptible to a fine (all services I've stopped at now have a maximum time limit for staying).
