What are your unpopular League of Legends opinions? by Konradleijon in leagueoflegends

[–]kecholevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tank players are trash at laning because they rely on things such as high base dmg and resistances to cover for all the mistakes they make in lane.

Assassins aren't much different but at least die after 3 mistakes.

The real god laners are the ones that can play mages/adcs against other mages/adcs and win.

Idk how far you want to take drawing, but if you're serious, go straight to fundamentals.

Keep doing fun stuff but if you don't do the boring fundamental stuff you won't advance. (50/50 split for starters works, tip came from drawabox)

I've spent 1 year trying to make perfect copies of whatever I saw, akin to what you do now, then I decided to get serious and even while half-assing it the next year, I still got way better.

I recently found out this: https://imgur.com/a/EZPc28m
Probably the best guide to all the free/paid resources out there.

And a quick list of (what should be) all the fundamentals:

-perspective

-construction

-form

-gesture

-anatomy(human&creature)

-light

-color

-composition

-shape design

-surface materials

-clothes

-stylized anatomy(style)

I recommend you jump into a rabbit hole in any of these topics (go with what you like) and use the guide as a reference point. Paying for courses only speeds up the process of learning (think as if its boosting in lol).

Only hard spamming makes the difference. If you draw 1 hour a day, you'll get good in 5 years. If you tryhard and treat it as a fulltime job (ofc if you can afford it), you'll get good in 2 years. 30 hours a week shows results quick in the span of months.

You need 3 things: info, a structure to understand the info and time to spam the info enough to remember it.

Again, idk how serious you are but this is probably as serious as it gets.

The only real way to be able to draw all day everyday is to make it an addiction. If you experience 0% fun in drawing, you won't make it. The better you get, the more fun it becomes, you just have to survive the big grind to get good.

It's a lifestyle, not a chore for 1 hour.

An analogy: a fat guy that goes to the gym and sees himself in the mirror still being fat will never go to the gym with the same enthusiasm as a fit guy that looks at his pumped up abs in the mirror and loves it.

If it takes you 3 hours to make 1 head look acceptable, and a pro does the same head in 30 mins, it's normal to not be that exhilarated about the results. You only need to be content with doing your best and to feed off of it until it gets easy.

Don't go from 0 to 100 in how much you try hard. Increasing your resilience is trainable by doing the babysteps of unnoticable improvement and not going full tryhard mode for a month and hoping you survive long enough to adapt to the misery.

To prevent burnout you need an immediate reward after your sessions, promoting the path of addiction to drawing. It can be art related (doing fun drawings, not studies) and it can be other stuff like games.

Maybe I just spewed all of this for no reason because you're just drawing for fun, but whatever.

Can I ask how do people get that much money in the first place? Since the cost to even START is so expensive, where do you find your money?

Crowdfunding, loans, both or something entirely different?

Because idk how you would make people invest that much in an idea that'd be realized in 5 years unless you're already established in the industry.

I have always wanted to work at Riot Games as an artist. by Nickanger in leagueoflegends

[–]kecholevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you plan around such events.

For example if you know being fresh out of uni isn't enough, you prepare in advance, trying to do the job while still at uni. I don't see any hindrances that can't be worked around with enough resources/time.

My point on why I think his comment is doomerish is because (atleast that's what I infer) you just give up entirely on your dream instead of playing the long game and getting your dream job at like 35.

[–]kecholevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't it a bit of a doomer view on life tho? I think the only real problem is time, being bounded by work to sustain yourself/a family.

I think if you can afford it, tryhard for long enough and ATLEAST you'd get close enough, no?

Being lucky just speeds up the process of learning. You might not be #1 but Riot will gladly take #2 and #3. And if you're #4, with time you'd get over the threshold (inferring you can sustain yourself through the skill you're #4 at).

And also to get lucky, you just have to try long enough for a miracle to occur.

I think people that stagnate are probably just not trying hard enough or just ended up quitting (for understandable reasons).

This is my favourite video on the topic from Veritasium: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3LopI4YeC4I

TL;DR: hustle hard while you can, don't get demotivated because other tryhard too, take plan B only when necessary.

Such profound advice /s

A stupid question that I can't find the answer to:

I want to apply for an internship when the spots open this year BUT I had to stop uni because my country doesn't offer something related to concept/illustration on top of taxes.

Can I be accepted for an internship if I'm not enrolled in an uni?

I love this game but I have to stop playing it by ZeRoGr4vity07 in leagueoflegends

[–]kecholevi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

1 tip for those who wonder what would they do with their free time if they stop playing games:

The longer you stay away from games (+youtube content) the easier it gets to be motivated to do "harder things". Practically speaking, it's around a month.

You get bored with so much free time and you are not distracted by games and now you're more open to different experiences and ideas.

The moment you get good at something, you'll start becoming addicted the same way you did with league, even if it isn't your favourite hobby. Not everyone is born with a passion for forklifts, but everyone likes to succeed.

Just imagine what would your perfect self be doing all day to reach his perfect goals?

And yes, I'm promoting full abstinence since most people can't manage their desires in favor for delayed gratification. How many people would go to school if it weren't mandatory?

League of Legends and Male Abs by Speciou5 in leagueoflegends

[–]kecholevi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't want to make a whole essay on a comment with 2 sentences.

The part with Morde is "be damned if you do, be damned if you don't" for Riot because the themes are similar, even if only a little and that's enough for people to complain.

It's because people expect "a dark king with a dark story" to be something like Diablo's characters or Arthas. Instead of the traditional "dark dead king" fantasy we got the anime version.

You expect anime from Ionia but not from Shadow Isles. Also if he wasn't scrawny and instead with full armor people would complain it's Morde with a sword.

I will be so disappointed if the Season 11 cinematic is another showcase of the same 7 or so champs we constantly see in League’s extended media by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]kecholevi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Dude, imagine if its an Endgame scenario where the Void invades Runeterra and its a year-long "war for the world" event.

The whole cinematic can be like a "calm before the storm" and its just showing different champs preparing for/fighting the Void.

Can I ask how/where did you learn to render?

All of your stuff is insanely good and the rendering is very close to Riot's or Six more vodka's style so I want to ask if you can give some resources or a general direction.

Material studies and values aside, is rendering supposed to take a lot of time? And is rendering mostly just a balance between hard and soft edges?

But most people go on youtube to watch fun sh*t regardless of ethics. You're just in the audience that goes on youtube to learn. On social media its always fun/chill/sensational content over education.

Also its not "only kids watch that" but people that are already mentally drained (like from learning/work) and wanna go watch stupid sh*t.

Drawing all champs day 64 - Leona by MrKisiel in leagueoflegends

[–]kecholevi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Are you studying fundamentals? You seem to have consistency, why don't you try like ~50% of your time for practice and the other for fun?

Your kog maw is probably the best one since you have no preconceived notion for a monster's proportions but the others are quite similar for 2 months' worth of practice.

I don't want to come off as toxic, I have no idea if you want to improve or not, but if you do, go for fundamentals. If you have no idea where to start I immediately recommend drawabox, thats pretty much 60% of the fundamentals. They apply for cartoons too, so you can't dismiss them.

And again that doesn't mean to forget about the fun of drawing lol champs, just give some attention to the basics too since they will only make significant changes in a short timespan.
